Based on my very recent experience, it's hard to believe anyone would rate them highly. This company was UNreliable with very poor phone service/receptionist support.
I called early one Saturday and got an appointment window of 12:00 - 2:00. I called at 1:40 when I hadn't heard anything and dispatch said he would be there soon. At 2:40 the van pulls into my driveway then drives away. Joshua the repairman calls to let me know he forgot his toolbelt at his last call and will be back in 20-30 minuttes. 50 minutes later, at 3:30, he shows up again, is polite and apologetic, diagnoses my problem and says he will put the order in for the replacement part and said they would call and schedule another appointment to fix my A/C. So a rocky start, but I was optimisitic things were on the right track.
The next (working) day I wait until noon and, not having heard anything, call them myself. As the computers were down, the woman who answered said she couldn't tell me anything but would call be back in less than an hour. 3.5 hours later, still not having heard anything (and not wanting to lose yet another day to get my A/C fixed), I called again and got another dispatcher (terse, to say the least) who said I would have to call back (for a third time) to see what the status of my work order was. When I asked if Joshua would just call me back and give me an update, she said sure. I waited until 5 pm and went ahead and called Joshua myself (my fourth call to see when my next appointment would be scheduled), but got his voice mail, which was full and the service hung up on me. It is now 5:38 and guess what?? Still no word.
My recommendation: If you want someone to show up when they say they will and follow through to complete your job....go to a company other than TACS!!

After coming home the other night to a broken AC and barely sleeping through a hot night, my husband and I knew we had to fix the situation as soon as possible (and hopefully without getting robbed in the process). I found TEXAS AIR CONDITIONING SPECIALISTS here on Yelp and decided to call them because of all the good reviews I read.
A tech was at my house within a couple hours. He was thorough, friendly and honest about prices. He handed me an detailed estimate that broke down three options of how to go. He advised me as to the best way to save money in the long run (which is important to me as a homeowner), and he explained what was wrong with our unit and what to expect from each option presented. He never tried to convince me to take the more expensive option, and he even contacted the main office to see if there was any way to get me a discount. I like to think that I can tell when someone is trying to screw me and I really felt I could trust his advice.
I really feel like I was able to make an informed and wise decision on which direction to go, because of his expertise and honesty.
The men showed up with the new unit a couple hours later and our AC was up and running just another hour after that. The original tech who came out gave me his card and asked me to call him if I needed anything. In the end, we were able to replace half of our system quickly, affordably and I feel like they have us covered in the future.
I definitely recommend them!

My first experience with TACS and any A/C repairmen at all as I'm a new home owner and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Josh called ahead of time, showed up early even, and was really great explaining everything that he was doing/checking for. I asked lots of questions and he was very patient explaining things to me so I could understand what was wrong with my system. Easy fix - add more freon. I had a leak. Long term fix - My system is 30 years old, coils are rusted (which he showed me) and the freon will run out again. But Josh was really helpful explaining options for the long term solution including what I needed to look for and approximate cost and then he gave me a great rate on the coolant for the short term fix. Not to mention the FREE service call.
I'm a big believer in working with people who have the heart of a teacher. If someone isn't interested in helping me understand what I'm about to sink a big chunk of money into, I'm not interested in working with them. Josh was very knowledgeable and didn't seem at all bothered that he had to explain basic AC ops to someone who wasn't familiar. I learned a lot and will definitely look to them for my first quote on the new system.
Thanks TACS and Josh!

We had a problem with our AC at home, took a long time to cool. We had called ARS Rescue Rooters and got terrible pricing, they wanted us to replace our entire AC etc. We saw the reviews online and called Texas Air Conditioning Specialist. Got prompt service the same day, they came and topped off a little bit of refrigerant, and we were up and running, good as normal. Highly recommend. Narayan

I called Texas Air Conditioning Specialists based on all the positive comments here on Yelp. I was disappointed. When they first looked at my system, they said that I needed a new blower motor and that it would be close to $900. After I pointed out that the system was still under the manufacturer's warranty, the price came down to $400. That was a little sloppy on their part, but an understandable mix-up.
What really irritates me is that I after I had a couple of folks look at it I found out that it was really the circuit board that controls the motor that was broken. Basically, TACS did a lazy job of diagnosing the problem and was going to replace more than was needed.
In the end, I had Capital Air do the job and it cost $150. I would definitely recommend them over TACS.

I have used Texas AC Specialist a couple of times. The first time was for a thermostat problem that they were able to fix real quick and didn't even charge me for.
The second one was to replace my entire system. The old system was 15 years old and finally gave out. The whole crew was very professional, prompt and friendly.

Our AC stopped working suddenly and we were worried about receiving good, affordable service so quickly. I found Texas AC specialists and was not disappointed! Domingo came over to our house immediately and was fantastic! The service was great, he scheduled the repair immediately and the cost was very affordable. I was very pleased with the overall experience and would definitely recommend them to anyone!

If you want an honest company in the AC repair industry, then THIS IS it!!! please read my previous review for the whole story

My AC stopped working a month ago so I asked my friends for recommendations and went with a locally owned company (support local business!) 4 hours and $500 later my unit was up and running. I was told that the fix would most likely just make it through the summer (4 months) and that the next time it went out there would be no saving it; I'd be on the hook for a brand new HVAC system, inside and out.
15 days later it went out again, over Easter weekend. Not wanting to lay out 5-6K for a new unit without a second opinion I searched Yelp and came up with TX AC Specialists. Called them and was up and running again for $45. The guy actually felt guilty being forced to charge me! Apparently the last company left the contacts loose virtually guaranteeing a return visit and had already laid the groundwork for a full new 5-6K sale.
These guys rock. Prompt, courteous, and professional.

Our ancient a/c unit stopped working a month ago. Our neighbor helped my husband fix it, but it kept making a loud rattle. Of course we were worried that we must've screwed something up or it was just time for a new unit.
I will say the first call to this company was on a monday at 7am, I got an answering service. I never heard back. However when I checked the next day on Yelp there was a new glowing review so I thought I would call again. The first message never got to the company. However I was able to be set up later that day.
Brent called to let me know when he was on the way, which allowed me to spend some extra time at work and meet him at the house. Right away he noticed we had a new motor and fan and asked about the work. When I told him my husband and neighbor did it he said they did a "good job!"
The noise was only a wire being struck by the fan which he fixed with a tie down.
He refused to charge me anything for a 10cent tie down and 10minutes of work. I need to make him a pie or something. Said he would rather we gave him a call when our unit eventually needs to be replaced. To top it off turns out he lives in Crestview, so I feel even better about using a neighbors business.
It was a great interaction, and I think he's using social media in a savvy way to build a good reputation for his business by building relationships and trust with his customer base.
