I had CO2 emissions coming from my furnace. I made an appointment for a repair/diagnostic. I paid $75 to hear a sales pitch. The ""repairman"" didn't bring any tools, no CO2 detector, or even a flashlight. The ""repairman"" poked around my furnace with a cell phone light and a bic pen for a few minutes, then told me that I needed a $1500 furnace. Total ripoff.
Sara S.Never using Terry Allen again.
I've used Terry Allen for various home improvement/repairs in the past, probably more often than I should have. I've used them on several occasions, for everything from repairing appliances and capping a gas line to the stove to bathroom plumbing. For the most part, the work that Terry Allen techs have done around our home has been ""middling"" and also very expensive, but usually they were professional when they came in the house and were able to do the repairs without taking up too much of our day while doing their thing and not making a mess, either. Seriously, until the last two calls to them, both the techs that came out to the home and the staff that answered the phones were always professional and courteous, but somewhere that changed and now so has my opinion of Terry Allen and I must say that this is not a change for the better.
We needed a tech sent out to our house on a call for a broken water heater and we were told repeatedly (as in at least 8 times and always after I had to continue to call them back) that the tech was on the way. This was an emergency and we had scheduled an appointment the day before with the office staff, who stated that the tech would be out within the approved appointment window, which had a leeway of about two hours. I get it, they often show up at the later end of the appointment window, sometimes early, but they are nonetheless required to show during the appointment window and if something were to come up, a phone call from the tech or the office staff is necessary.
We were told repeatedly that he was on his way. The appointment window came and went when we were already told at the beginning of the appointment window that he was ""around the corner."" Hmm. I don't think he was around the corner. I don't know where on earth he was or what he was doing. We had to schedule to be off work and at home for this, we were waiting and we had no hot water.
After repeated calls to the office and several hours later, long past the expiration of the appointment window, the individual on the phone, who never once called me or asked the tech to call (common courtesy and common sense would tell you to do so, however, not in this case) gave me the last excuse of too many to recall and just yelled at me that the tech must've decided to go eat lunch or something! Where did this person answering the phone/scheduling appointments learn phone etiquette, anyway? Geez. I truly believe they needed a refresher course on how to answer phones because the behavior on their end was appalling.
Seriously? Obviously, this was one of a rotating series of excuses given to us about the tech's whereabouts and we'd had it up to here by now.
Oh, don't forget- he was supposedly ""around the corner and almost to the house"" for hours! I told the individual on the phone what an inconvenience it was and that this was highly unprofessional. The employee gave no excuses, only snapping, ""what do you want me to do about it?"" Again, seriously? I mentioned that we had used, up until this point, Terry Allen almost exclusively for plumbing/installation repairs for years, which they also knew about because it was in their computer records. The lady answering the phone simply acknowledged it. That was it.
After the last experience we had with them, with an overpriced repair that should have cost much less than their estimate, we should have stopped using them, however, we gave them another chance and for what- to pull a no-show?
Fed up, we told her to cancel the appointment and I contacted another plumbing company, who managed to get someone out to our house within maybe 20 minutes of the call. Go figure. I guess this guy was somewhere ""around the corner"" on another call or something, unlike someone else, so it was easy for him to get to our house quickly. While the other plumber's estimate was also expensive (realistically, none of them are ""reasonably priced""), he was courteous, on time and very honest, which is more than I can say about Terry Allen.
Mike O.They did a very good job, the Installers took there time and did there company proud. Professional work. I was not called but was told they would be at my house between 830am and 9 they where here on time, it was a rainy mouring but the outside installer went above and beyond with his work, the other who worked on the coil and sheet metal Inside did a fantastic job as well..I would highly recommend them
Tammy L.I had 3 services performed over 2 dates of service and paid in full on each service at the end of the appointment. But just received a bill in the mail for over $1600, including 5 ""finance charges"" of over $20 each. Very poor billing practices. I will never risk my money with them again.
My husband called and had them come out to install a faucet and disposal that I purchased prior. $500.00 for the installation for 2 hours of work. NEVER again. Would not recommend and they will NOT give you and any type of estimate before coming out. Do NOT use.
I'd rate this company 0 stars if I could. If you're thinking of hiring them RUN THE OTHER WAY!!
Background - in Jan 2008 my furnace was failing & I got quotes to replace it. Terry Allen's quote was in the middle of the 4 I received and at the time I thought it was a reputable company. On Jan 30, 2008 they came to install my new furnace. On Jan 31st installation was complete but the furnace didn't work and there began a series of useless ""fixes"" that would last weeks. Repairman came to my house on Feb 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 13th & 14th. It had now been 2 weeks & I was still in the cold!! I asked the workmen if, perhaps, the furnace they installed was to small for the space but was assured that wasn't the case. I was told it was ""cycling to fast"" among other excuses. They sent an engineer out on Feb 15th to evaluate the situation & he said the furnace needed to be re-piped. Repairmen came to do that on Feb 18th & 20th but it didn't help. On Feb 26th I was told there was a blocked valve, then on Feb 28th I was told the problem was due to ""insufficient radiator length throughout my house"". What BS!!! The sales rep inspected & measured my existing system when he made the quote and there had been no problem with the ""radiator length"" for my previous furnace. Terry Allen was getting desperate to find new excuses for their incompetence and I was freezing every night! I'm convinced that the problem was that they installed an undersized furnace that couldn't handle my house & they wouldn't admit it because it would mean starting over. Finally on March 1st - one MONTH after the first installation date - they said the only way my house would ever heat up to a living temperature would be for them to install 2 fan coil heaters that would cost an additional $1,102. They refused to cover the cost (although they did give me a discount) because they were blaming my ""insufficient radiator length"" for all the problems & ignoring all the other ""explanations"" I'd been given along the way! It was blackmail! They knew it was freezing out, that I'd already invested a month of my time working with them to solve the problem and that my only choices were to start over with another company or let them install the fans! I caved in & on April 9th they installed the fans, my house was warm again & I hoped never to have to deal with Terry Allen ever again!!
Fast forward to present time - one of the 2 fan coil heaters started making an awful noise. On Oct 30, 2015 a technician came out, adjusted it (which stopped the noise) & said it may need a new blade in the near future. He was right, the noise came back and on Feb 10, 2016 the same technician came out & replaced the fan blade. He said then that if the noise came back I'd probably need to replace the motor. It stayed quiet until last week. On Nov 23rd I called & spoke to the receptionist. I gave her all the details - the name of the previous technician, what he did, what he said, the model & serial numbers of the fan - everything she could have needed to make sure the technician was prepared to make the repair. The first appointment I could make was for today (Nov 30th) & when he arrived the technician confirmed the problem. ""The motor is frozen up & needs to be replaced BUT the manufacturer no longer makes that motor & I was only given your job this morning so I'm still waiting on a quote for a replacement motor"". WTF - I provided all the necessary information a week ago! There should have been plenty of time to get a quote, get the part & be ready to do the repair on the day scheduled!! Now I have to rework my schedule to set another appointment whenever the motor happens to arrive. When I called to complain the manager I talked to basically said ""that's just not how Terry Allen works. We can't just order a part until the technician confirms what's needed."" Well obviously the technician did know what was needed, based on the research he did before he arrived at my house, he just didn't have time to get all the information, let alone order a new motor, because he was only given the information on the day of my appointment. What was happening for the rest of the week?? All I got from the manager was ""sorry for your inconvenience"" but he took no responsibility for what happened just as the managers 8 yrs ago took no responsibility for the fiasco that was the installation of my furnace.
NEVER use this company, you will regret it!!!
Knew I had to pay $115.00 for after hour service call but not the additional $177.90 for 15 minutes of work (sodering/adding a 4 -5 inch elbow). At that rate their hourly rate would be $711.60!!!
After my comlaint to them Walt credited $88.95 which was half of the 15 minute rate which would still make the hourly rate $355.80. I am female and another female friend of mine hired them saying they were pricy and sorry she hired them. Of course, I will never hire them again nor will I recommend them.
Not happy with you guys. When I called and told you guys I would pay the $69 for an estimate for the work for my father who lives out of state. But I wanted a call before any work was done with what the total cost of repairs would be.
The repair technician took it upon him self to do the work without my approval. When I asked him about it he even said it ways his fault that he did that. I've never heard of a company proceeding with a work order without authorization that it was ok to proceed. I'm extremely disappointed with the service from you company.
I would of authorized the repairs but would of appreciated a phone call letting me the amount before hand. I will never do business with your company again nor recommend your services to anyone.
I do want to mention the quality of work based on what my father said was excellent, I'm just really upset the work was preformed without my authorization since I communicated to your company that I was the one that was paying the bill and never gave the go ahead to fix the ac without letting me know the cost first.
Had them quote a Lennox inducer motor and they came back w $395.00 for the part only. I called around to find everyone else that is an authorized Lennox Dealer quoted between $189-$250-part only. They are virtually double! Stay clear!
Daniel J.I would give 10 Stars if I could!! The customer service rep that answered the call was very polite and understanding. They called when they said they would, the serviceman arrived when they said he would which is amazing in itself. The serviceman, James was very informative and very polite and walked me through the entire troubleshooting process. James repaired everything and then cleaned up after he was done. Once again I would highly recommend Terry Allen!
