I highly recommend Terra Nova Engineering. They just fixed some bad work done earlier this year by another company, in addition to extending my sewer line to the street. Sheila is amazing, knows everyone at the Water District, EBMUD and the county, and quickly coordinated all parties. They did a great job and left my yard and the street all cleaned up. They are easy to communicate with and were very professional.

I've used these guys on 2 different properties in the last year... They are competent, thorough and near as I can tell, less expensive than their competition..

On the last job, they arrived at 7:30 am, worked all day replacing more than 100 feet of corroded pipe, and made the necessary connection to the city's main line under the street, and passed the city's inspection.

I can't recommend them enough...

I'd recommend Terra Nova Engineering to others for sewer lateral work. Sheila and her team were courteous, prompt, and professional from the time of the estimate till completion. What was projected to be one day actually ended up taking 2+ days due to the thick layer of concrete and digging that the crew had to performed. At the end of the day, the work was done well but ended up costing more than the initial quote due to the additional labor and materials, which Sheila took the time to explain and show me. I do not blame Terra Nova since they can only provide a quote based on what they can see and anticipate to the best of their knowledge. What I really appreciated about Terra Nova is that Sheila absorbed some of the additional costs, which she was under no obligation to do. She knew that I have a pregnant wife and a house full of newly discovered issues (the joy of home ownership!), which has caused significant stress for us. I appreciate the customer service and human kindness which can sometimes be removed from dealing with contractors/vendors. Thanks Sheila and team - keep up the great work and customer service!

I had a great experience with Terra Nova Engineering. They provided a sewer lateral quote promptly, and of the three bids I obtained, they offered the best price and the best warranty. Sheila was responsive throughout the entire process, and the work crew was in and out in one day with everything finished and the site left in the same or better condition. It was easy to schedule a time to obtain the certificate, and Sheila even made sure I had the right paperwork on hand to obtain a city rebate. I wish all contractors were this easy to work with!

Terra Nova Engineering was swift and professional. Don't settle for cut-rate when it comes to your sewer lateral. I was afraid of scope creep or being overcharged. They came out, performed the job in 1 day, and there were no ""Gotcha!'s"" or any up-charging. They performed the job at the bid price which was very reassuring. There may be other competitors that offer lower rates initially, but then they charge you extras like ""Camera fees"", or whatever. Also sometimes you get what you pay for. I will definitely be using their services again when I purchase another home in the east bay. I would also recommend them to anyone that needed a sewer lateral replacement performed.

I needed a major sewer line replacement in a hurry.Sheila from Terra Nova came out the morning I called and moved her schedule around to get the job done two days later. This is a mixed review. My interactions with the company were, for the most part, professional and the primary work of installing the sewer lateral was done competently but they made one HUGE MISTAKE.

However, many months after the new lateral was installed I started having issues with water backing up in my lower level when running the dishwasher and laundry at the same time. This recently became much worse so I had a plumber come out for a quote. The initial bid was for 125.00 but quickly rose to 800.00 when we discovered an old pipe under a layer of concrete needed to be repaired. Once that was fixed...onto the big realization.

When Terra Nova replaced the sewer lateral they DID NOT do an accurate job of assessing the drainage from my house. They connected the lateral to my bathroom BUT NOT to my kitchen or laundry. This was an additional 800.00 dollar repair.

I brought this up with Terra Nova asking for some financial support since this was incompetence on their part. They refused and just pointed to the contract which stated a single connection from the house. I'm not a plumber and had no idea how the drains from my house were laid out. That's why I hire professionals and specialists. They didn't even have the decency to apologize (presumably because that would be admitting to a mistake).

Their excuse/response. ""This was a trenchless job so we didn't see it."" And, ""There was root intrusion in the pipes, so we didn't see it."" I saw the photos - the root intrusion was frequent but visually and physically minor. Not an excuse.

So, while the lateral work was done competently the complete oversight of one primary drainage connection to my house is ridiculous and simply careless. Draw your own conclusion from this review but if you want a thorough, detailed, and 100% competent job I CANNOT recommend this team. If you want to pay the same amount as all the other bids but get a subset of the work - go for it.

I highly recommend Terra Nova Engineering for the lateral sewer work. Sheila was professional and helpful in getting everything set up for the job. The workers were on time, professional and got the job done in one day. Through the efficient work of Terra Nova's Employees, it was stress free for me!

I would give 6 stars if I could. Sheila was easy to work with on the phone, I got a quote right away because Terra Nova understood I needed help fast (sewer line leaking-yikes!) They fit my job into the schedule quickly, finished early, and stuck with the original quote. Thank you Terra Nova!
