Asked mr. spall & son to give me an estimate for a leaky outside water spigot. I then went through a lengthy questioning process, like I was testifying before a Federal Grand Jury, after which I was notified that his retainer or in other words (come to your house fee was $85.00) on top of any repairs. My antenna was up concerning this fee, but just wanted somebody to come by with a reasonable estimate so that I could fix the problem. We established a time and date which was very flexible and because of my anxiousness to get it fixed, I made the appointment. The truck and plumber/driver arrived at the appropriate time and I let him in the door, thus began my terror of calling an unknown bill boarded contractor. When I showed him the problem, that was approximately 2/3 ft. of copper pipe and a shut off valve and spigot, he whipped out his computer pad and started to tally the results of the repair. I stood by as he did this and held by breath... when he stated the words, when you spend over $700.00 you get.... I actually felt like I was going to vomit and faint! I politely, after gasping for air, ushered him up the stairs and put him out of the house within 20 minutes of his arrival. He continued to taut his companies OVERHEAD cost and the $300.00 plus cost of the ball joint. His estimate was over $1000.00, yes that's correct 1 thousand dollars. Please don't call this bill board guy and fund this family unless you want to spent $$$$. I then got the job done within an hour - no fees upfront - at $200.00. No stars, 0 stars, for the bill board guy SPALL. In small letters for everything but my experience for home owners NOT to GIVE HIM OR HIS SON'S YOUR BUSINESS.

Do not, under any circumstances, do business with this company. Their deceptive tactics are beyond appalling. I was lured in by false information (new customer price) only to find myself trapped in a web of hidden fees, bait-and-switch pricing. Avoid this company at all costs - they are the epitome of unethical business practices."" Very sad to go from a cost of $170 to get in your door to $400 later. Taking advantage of the elderly.

I wish I could give them zero stars my heat was working but I pay to have my systems checked seasonally I have a heat pump with propane furnace back up they installed the furnace two years ago because of my two systems I pay double for my checkup and all was good a few days later my heat stopped working it took days for them to come and they told me my heat pump needed service and to use one or two lbs of Freon r22 would be 1,000 dollars so I should replace the unit for 12,000 dollars my backup furnace heats the house fine so I decided to wait on my heat pump the next day I had no heat again this is six weeks ago they have been out a number of times charge me to fix it one time charged 500 dollars and stopped working the next day and now I'm waiting a week with no heat for a part and I can't get an update their contract says if they don't fix it it's free but they refuse to come out if I don't agree to pay again I don't know what to do I'm 75 and helpless and taken advantage of still no heat I pay to check my unit so this wouldn't happen Every thing they say on their recording is a lie and I heard it way too many times on long hold and the promised call backs don't happen

We had a furnace installed about a year ago. It was installed incorrectly. Joe came out to the house and got it working again and a couple of days later Dylan came to give us an estimate to install it correctly. He set up a payment plan for us and explained everything that needs to be done to make it right. Thanks.

Saturday February 10 2024, my mom woke to a horrible noise coming from the basement, which at first, she though was outside the house. As she headed down to the basement, she said it smelled like a pack of wet dogs. As she approached the furnace, it was spraying boiling water everywhere. She went back upstairs to shut the emergency switch and called me.

When I got there, water was still pouring out onto the floor. I shut off many of the faucets and ball valves in the maze of pipes around and above the furnace and the water finally stopped after we dumped quite a few buckets or water outside.

I went back upstairs and my mom had a mailer from TE Spall & Son - Call Spall! So she called them to come out to check over the furnace.

In the mean time, my mom called my cousin on Long Island who is in this business all his life. He said it sounded like the Pressure Release Valve was the issue.

The guy from Spall showed up on February 12. They charged $170 just to come to the house as a 'Service Fee' and additional $194 for a 'Diagnostic'. ...and the guy still didn't give us an answer as to what was wrong. He stated that we should have a salesmen come out to quote us on a price to replace it all, since it is 30 years old. Even though he wasn't sure, he said if we had to replace the Pressure Release Valve and the Expansion Tank, it would cost us $475 + $579 = $1054... ON TOP OF THE $364 they were already charging just to show up and do nothing. A total of $1418. He was also pushing a 'Club Plan' that was supposed to save us money. I added it up in my head and told him it would cost way more for the 'Club Plan'!

One other thing he said, since she has 4 zones, he knows they charge an additional $1000 per zone. This pricing just seemed so outrageous to us, a good 3X what we expected or what we found in a Google search for the area. Almost forgot, they accepted the $50 coupon from the mailer.

Later that afternoon, the Salesman showed up, Steven Zazzera. He arrived to my moms before I did, since I had a doctor appointment. He already made his assessment and had pricing ready. For a replacement oil system they wanted to charge us $15,845.For a replacement Propane system they wanted to charge us $18,480.

But we could pay it over 120 months, what they call 'Ease Comfort' for $295 per month. That $35,400 over TEN YEARS!

By the way, the 16 oz propane tank ran out on the heater before I got back to my mom's house. She's 80 and has some macular degeneration. She asked Steve is he could unscrew the tank and put the new one in for her. No, he had no clue how to do it. He works for a Heating & Plumbing company! Just to do it as a nice gesture. Even before the price, that sealed the deal with them.

It rotten to try to take advantage of an elderly woman on limited income in a desperate situation. She was in a panic over the price. Sick to her stomach.

Needless to say, they were not called back. I reached out on the Angi app and another person came out. Joe Hanley from AC Absorption. Really nice guy, but he didn't work on oil systems. He did say if he had to replace it with Propane, the additional for each zone would be $200, not like the $1000 per zone Spall was quoting - SPALL WAS FIVE TIMES THE PRICE! Joe gave us quotes for Propane and electric which were reasonable, but we really wanted to see if it could be repaired.

A friend of mine, Steff, asked her friend Mike to come out to give a quote, but he couldn't show up til Friday evening. Meanwhile, I'm running three propane heaters throughout my mom's basement and house so her pipes don't freeze. It dropped down in the teens that week, after a week on the 40s and 50s. I know Mike was very honest and would have done the job properly and for a great price.

I was trying to remember the name of the company I used for my hot water tank at least ten years earlier. I was searching and searching and finally found it was Don Hiller! I remembered they were reasonably priced and really pleasant to deal with. I called Don, he got back to me at the end of the day. You just feel comfortable talking with him, like a guy you've known for years. His son came out the morning of the 15th, due to the snow storm on the 14th. Super nice guy. He was in the basement for maybe 30-45 minutes. No fee to come to the house and no fee for a 'Diagnostic'. He immediately knew it was the Pressure Release Valve and the Expansion Tank. He had both items already in his truck and replaced them in this time. A true professional.

Now for the bill. $95 for labor and $100.71 for parts. Add in tax and the entire bill was $201.75! Spall wanted us to pay 1.5X that price per month for ten years! Spall charged us $314.00 and did NOTHING!

If Spall was to change those two parts, they were 7X the price of Don Hiller. Spall is such a scam!

BETTER NOT CALL SPALL!

CALL DON HILLER! 570-253-2485 - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We had a bathtub faucet leak. We couldn't figure out what caused the drip so we called this company to have someone come out to hopefully fix the problem. I knew it would be expensive but if it fixed the problem I'd be willing to pay what I had to. The guy came out and replaced something on the cold water side that and two shut offs cost about $1300... a little steep but again if it fixed the problem OK. Well the tub started dripping worse about ten days later and one of the shut offs he installed started to leak. Then the cold water wouldn't work at all. I called them back and they said someone could come out in about 5 days??? Needless to say I called another plumbing service, who came out that day, and fixed both problems caused by the original plumber, who by the way felt the need to mention about a dozen times he had over 20 years experience. Hopefully his experience was in anything except plumbing because based on my experience my plumbing skills are superior to his. Anyway, the second coke I called fixed the problem and I have had an issue since then, oh and they only charged me $380 and yes they replaced the two parts the original company used. Bottom line if you need any plumbing service at all please make sure this isn't one of your options unless you want to severely over pay for service which won't fix your problem and may actually make your problem worse!!

I needed emergency service because my furnace stopped working during the winter so it's cold. They gave me a service date three weeks out. Really? What happened to emergency services?
