TL;DR: Don't use this guy. He is overtly dishonest, only out to make a quick buck, and likely won't make things right if and when his work causes a problem.

In December 2017, I contacted Sunnyvale Plumbing via Yelp message here. I got a prompt response, and the next day, a plumber Shin came and took care of a couple faucets for me. The prices were very reasonable, and the work done was great. The only issue less than perfect was that Shin's English was quite poor; it was often hard to communicate.

I had Shin come out another time for a separate issue in June 2018. Again, his work was great. If I had remember to submit a review at that time, it would have been a 5-star review hands down.

In September 2019, I had a water heater that needed to be replaced. I called Sunnyvale Plumbing. To my surprise, Shin was nowhere to be found, and instead a guy named Simon showed up. I didn't think much of it at the time since I just needed a plumber, and Simon seemed to fit the bill. He quoted me $1200 to replace the water heater (documented by text). I was unable to be present that day, but a friend of mine ""babysat"" for me by being on site. To my later surprise, Simon told my friend that the fee would be $1500, and so my friend dutifully wrote the check on my behalf. Only later did I hear about the discrepancy. I didn't raise stink about it since I wanted to be nice, figured that replacing a water heater is hard work, and assumed perhaps Simon encountered some unexpected costs during the project.

Now the ugliness began. In my home where the water heater was replaced, slowly over the next several months one shower after another stopped working properly; in all three stopped working. I asked Simon to come take a look, but he avoided me like the plague. In the past he was always very responsive via text; now I couldn't get him to respond. He wouldn't answer the phone or respond to messages. I was confused but assumed he might have some issues going on in life. Finally, I went with another plumber, who quickly figured out that the showers stopped working because Simon's work on replacing the water heater resulted in debris clogging the hot water lines somewhere. I tried to contact Simon again to notify him; again, he ghosted me.

Despite having tried hard to give Simon the benefit of the doubt, now I finally understood Simon's behavior; he knew his work on the water heater caused problems but didn't want to have to make it right. After all, he already had my money in hand.

Earlier today I texted Simon to ask him to contact me about the above, telling him I was hoping we could come to a mutually agreeable solution. He actually called me to simply say, ""Go find another plumber,"" and hung up on me.

So there you have it: This apparently is the kind of plumber and person Simon is. I miss Shin; he was great. Simon is another story.

Today, I hired another plumber. He too (like Simon) is Korean and knows Simon and says they used to work together in the past. He said, ""Simon isn't very good. Bad work, dishonest person."" Yep.

The response was really prompt. They came earlier than the schedule with checking-in ahead of time if they can come early (something that I really value a lot).
They asked many questions to check the problem thoroughly and gave me some options and recommendations.
I will definitely call them if I got a same/similar problems.

Best drain and sewer work done for me.
During the past 5 years, I have used more then 5 (contacted much more, 15-20) top rated plumbing services from Yelp around San Jose / Sunnyvale area. This one tops them all!
WORK: Slow drain in sewer, and replace a section of rusted 2"" iron drain pipe.

You pay almost the lowest price but get the best work done.
1. Slow drain: Do the drain cleaning work VERY THOROUGHLY. This guy is the only plumber that uses a drain cleaner blade, all others only used bare cable without cleaner blade attached. This makes huge differences, because without cleaner blade, the snake cable can only make a small hole through the grease, and your drain will get clogged much sooner -- I think other plumers do these purposely. He also breaks up the obstruction as thoroughly as possible, and do it through both kitchen and laundary vents (through roof). Other plumbers either do very swiftly or only do one.
2. High quality piping work.
We got rusted 2"" iron pipe replaced by PVC (~ 6"" long). The quality of his work and parts he used both are very good. It also comes with 1y warranty.
3. Very polite and patient.
4. Cost is good.
Actually the lowest price I every get. Slow drain for $90. Fixing pipe $100.

--CON--
1. This guy speaks very limited English.
I'm ok to use drawing board to communicate the fixing plan with him. If you don't, maybe you should reconsider.
2. May not be on schedule
Personally, I do not experience the issue. But my friends do. I feel this is partially a communication issue.

I called him for two times. One is for drainage clog and another for toilet flange ring replacement. He did fast with good price. He also clean around after job done. Surely recommended

No show & hard to communicate as they speak very limited English.

Booked them to do some work at a Rental Property at 8am following morning. 8:30am he calls me and says he will be there in 20 minutes. 2 minutes later I get a text saying ""I'm not coming"". No explanation, no reschedule, nothing. Left my tenant hanging. Thanks for that.

My aging mother needed her kitchen sink unclogged so I called Sunnyvale Plumbing. I was told someone would be there ""for sure"" between 7:30 - 8pm. At 8:30pm I called and was told that his boss was the one who was coming and he was on a job that ran long so wasn't coming. No call, no nothing. Sink still clogged. Totally unprofessional.

I replaced 4 faucets and this plumber had the best quote and did a very good job. The job was more challenging than he thought but he patiently worked through the problems and did a clean and thorough job. He said that he has been in the business for over 29 years. An efficient, reasonable, patient and honest plumber. I will certainly use him again!
