Company Overview

Sunkel Plumbing is a family-owned and operated business that focuses on residential plumbing, drain cleaning, sewer rooter services, hot water hydrojetting, pipe renovation, plumbing repairs, water heaters, sewer systems, gas lines, garbage disposals, water filtration, and more. Since our inception in 1955, we have supported countless homeowners in keeping their vital plumbing systems in excellent condition. When you need a reliable plumbing service, rely on the experts at Sunkel Plumbing!

We take pride in being a family business in the plumbing industry for three generations. In 1955, Morris E. Sunkel established Sunkel Plumbing and Heating. His vision was to offer plumbing and heating services to the residents of McLean County. Before he became a licensed Master Plumber, he was involved in building new homes at the onset of Illinois licensing regulations. Morris R. Sunkel officially joined the business in June 1964. Some of you might remember our variety store at 1004 W. Market Street in Bloomington, opposite the former Baumgarts Coal & Lumber. We provided a selection of dime store and hardware goods while basing the Sunkel Plumbing operations out of that store. Jason Sunkel has been an integral plumber in our business since about 1992. We continue to uphold our commitment to serving McLean County with integrity and honor, providing exceptional service.

Having grown up in this business, I have dedicated 30 years to serving McLean County. I love bringing joy to customers by delivering exceptional service and going the extra mile.

I needed a garbage disposal unit installed and a new diverter for our bath tub spout (the lower spout that empties into the tub itself). On May 24, 2019, two guys from Sunkel came out on time. The Sunkel guy gave me a cost of $473 for the work. I said it seemed kinda high. The guy then said I could decline the work and merely pay the $95 service fee. That also seemed high, and I didn't want to be throwing money away. So I agreed to have the work done. The guys completed the job and everything works. But, as described below, a few things still bother me.

Before they came, I phoned in and explained the work to be done. Still, both of the Sunkel guys had to take a trip back to the shop for equipment. All total, it took them about 2 hours to do the work. During that time, water started leaking from the ceiling in our rec room, below the bath where the spout was being replaced. Apparently, water was dripping down behind the wall in the bath. One of the guys put a bucket on the rec room floor to catch the water, but when the guys left, water kept dripping for several hours on our floor. By the next day, a brown water stain developed on several of our ceiling tiles in the rec room.

Before the guys left, my wife paid and asked for a receipt. The Sunkel guy said it would be emailed to us. After four days we still had no receipt, so I called Sunkel and asked for one. I also told them about the water stain and asked if something could be done. I then received an email receipt, but no call back about the water stain.

Very expensive. Charged $350 for a 1-hour job. After questioning about the quote, was told it would be $95 if I didn't have them do the job for the service call. Would not use again

I was given a time frame of 1pm-4pm and Dalton arrived soon after 1pm. He was friendly, kind to my kids, and professional. He was also quick -- he cleaned my pipe and tested that is was clear before I knew it. Thanks!

They may be good if you get them to come. I called about a leaking water heater. They said a plumber would call and let us know when they would come. Nobody called so my husband called them back. They said they couldn't come today because of the snow. We only got 2 inches, and they should have called us back anyway. We got someone else. Won't make that mistake again.

WAY OVERPRICED!!! WOW!!!
$154 for a service call and less than 10 minutes of work. No parts. I could not get a screw on so he was able to. He put a float ball in that I had and charged $154???
Have used them in the past but will NEVER use them again. That is pure robbery. Very disappointed. I thought a $50-60 service charge and maybe 10 minutes of labor. No pricing out just came up with 154.05?????

Very nice service tech. Great guy. I do not blame him.

Also heard they charged a lady $1200 to replace the inside of 2 toilets. They should be arrested for that. True story as I know the lady!!

Stay away!! Not to he trusted. BBB will be getting a call from me! Bbjkhjj

Sunkel Plumbing is a professional, polite, family owned business that takes pride in quality work and customer satisfaction. Every experience I've had with them has been honest and done right. I was a raving fan from my first experience when the owner, Jason came out to my building for a call, spent a lot of time educating me and saving me money and didn't even charge me a dime, despite my insistence. I've been a loyal happy customer ever since!

I'm not quite sure what just happened.

I had an estimate from a different plumber but lost his number. With him the sinks would be just $30/sink to install and $65/toilet (resealing).

Sunkel came, and to my surprise, I was told it was about $200 to install EACH sink and about $250 just to redo EACH inside of my toilet tank. I definitely called the wrong company!

He was so shady about calling his boss to get a better estimate and had to do it outside in his car. When we confronted him that those numbers seem right, he immediately ran outside to call his boss again and see if he could lower the numbers. Somehow he came back with 65$/sink and $150/toilet. The prices seem just off and the business seemed shady. I told him if he couldn't get the estimate right the first time around I do not want to do business.

In the end, I only last the fee for the guy to come out here from Sunkel to estimate my house. In the end I'm saving at least 1200 bucks.

I am not allowed enough characters to tell the whole story, but I'm giving a very low rating because they quoted me $600 to fix a water backup sump pump that needed a minor and WELL DOCUMENTED adjustment which I later discovered in the product owners manual on the internet. When I asked to understand the cost the tech and the owner actually got MAD at me over the phone. It's always one person's word vs. the other, but just make sure if you do business with these people - understand where you're vulnerable (my house was pending sale and I had already moved out) and make EVERYTHING make sense before you let them work on your property.
