We made a call to Summers HVAC because our central air was no longer cooling the house, we informed the serviceman that it was still blowing air but the air was not cool enough and it was no longer keeping the temperature in the house cool.. The service tech straight out lied to me, and diagnosed my air conditioning unit and told me it cannot be fixed without any attempt to troubleshoot it...like maybe do a basic cleaning to ruling out if the unit was clogged, and then maybe attempt to charge it up .. but he didn't even try and said it's frozen that means it took a shit! - he proceeded in trying to convince me there was nothing he could do that it could not be fixed but no one carries Freon anymore which was BS.. because after a week of being in a panic of trying to figure out how we were going to come up with the money it cost for a new air conditioning unit and he also threw in we were in need of a new furnace.. we spent a week in a house where the temperature went up to 85 degrees... he charged me $100 bucks for doing nothing and it's pretty sad and shameful he took our money and just left us without a working air conditioner when it was 80-90 degrees outside - I guess he assumed I was a stupid woman - however, I made some calls, and a friend of a family member working in the trades in HVAC came out flushed it out, checked the Air Flow with the meter and Air Flow was Great, the Air was cool and the house temp went to 70 degrees and there were No leaks detected... SHAME ON YOU SUMMERS HVAC for treating customers like they don't matter...
Woke up to a cold house Friday morning (happens to every home owner eventually). At that time, with my limited knowledge, of troubleshooting furnace issues I checked the igniter and flame sensor. Both appeared to be functioning. Furnace would start up and run for approx. 5 min. and then kick off before reaching the set thermostat temperature. At this point I contacted Summers scheduling a visit that happened promptly about 2 hours later. The technician was very courteous and informed me of the error code (3 blinks) was a malfunctioning pressure switch. After testing the pressure switch and knowing that wasn't the issue I was informed that it was a bad gas valve. The Tech left and returned with a replacement. After installing a new gas valve the furnace ran for approximately 6 min. and turned off again. The Tech then told me that it was a malfunctioning circuit board (something about a possible relay). At this point the cost of the gas value and a new Circuit board was equivalent to approximately 40% that of a new furnace. I decided, at this point, to cut a check and send the tech on his way. Over the course of approximately two hours, I decided to educate myself on troubleshooting the issue. I discovered that the E vap coil (above the exchanger) was covered in a blanket of dust prohibiting airflow on the discharge resulting in overheating that tripped the limiter switch. Having cleaned this and putting everything back together the furnace worked fine. Bottom line... gas valve wasn't the issue. The Tech should have informed that the evaporator coil was a possible issue, and if I was so mechanically inclined, corrected on my own, or offered a quote to clean it. Lesson learned and $670 later I can tell you this... Either the tech is incompetent or is out to hose me for a new furnace. I certainly hope this isn't a reflection on other technicians that work for this company. Pathetic. I'd leave a 0 star rating if possible.
Summers in Crown Point for any plumbing work is very expensive. My technician's name was Tyler. He was very professional and thorough and fast.
Steven S.Had continuing issues with getting a furnace they installed to work. We literally after installation had to have them come out 7-8 times to get the new furnace they installed functional. Very difficult to deal with. All of this could of been avoided if they took the time to install a 3 inch vs a 2 inch exhaust pipe when they initially replaced my furnace. Also they never seem to arrive on time.
I would strongly recommend against working with Summers if they cut corners like this.
Also I have repeatedly asked for the paperwork for the initial diagnosis of my old furnace for my Insurance and they refuse to send this to me.
I was given a time window of four hours for summers to inspect and service my air conditioning unit. they never came.....based on that, I hAve nothing positive to say. another company came to my rescue in a timely manner so they got the job that summers blew off.
We signed a service contract with Summers in July 2022 . They deducted a fee monthly from my checking and this contract was to include a furnace check in Winter and air in the summer. They never came out in the winter for a cleaning or a check ! So I called them 2 months ago to set up an air conditioner check for our central air. First available apt was 1 1/2 months out . Didn't have a choice so I took it. They called he day of saying the teck had a family emergency and I needed to re-schedule. I agreed and they said first available was June 29 th and I said no way I already waited 1 1/2 months for this one. So of course I was put on hold, they came back and said ok how is Tues. the 6 th between 8 and 10 I said fine. Mind you this is the 2 nd day my husband took off to be home for this. They called at 9 am stating that the tec had a "" family emergency "" again and I said I wanted to cancel my contract now. She said let me get you to an admin and she told my husband I will have a tec out immediately, go figure. So he came out gave a bull$$*@ speech about how bad our 12 yr old system was and all it needed , which would not be worth it to repair. My husband is a plumber not HVAC , yet he questioned it. So the tec then called the office to have another salesman come over to talk to us about a new $ 6200 system ! It turns out it was a $ 15.99 capasiter not a new system. All they are are poor salesman not looking out for your well being only lining there pockets at customers expense. If this helps 1 person from being scammed by them it was worth the time to review !!!
Called in to schedule an estimate for a new HVAC system to be installed. When it came time during the phone call to schedule the appointment, they couldn't give a time. She said they'd just call when they were gonna come out. Who does that? Every other company gave me at least a two hour window when they were arriving. So I was expected to basically have to put my entire day on hold not knowing when they were coming out. Be careful. They have a central scheduling office for all their locations. The phone number on page for your local Summers just re-directs to the central location. I told her no thanks, and that I wouldn't be interested in doing business with them if that is how they operate. THEN, the following moring, I get a call from one of their guys saying he was on the way, and gonna be at my house in 20 min!! After I told him we didn't even have an appointment, I get a text message about an hour later about ANOTHER guy coming out (of course it didn't say when). I had to call them up and tell them I didn't schedule anything with them, and to take me off all communication since I would never do business with a company this disorganized. Buyer beware.
If I could give 0 stars I would. I will NEVER use or recommend Summers Heating and Cooling again! In fact, after reading other reviews on this site when I came to post mine it appears that others have experienced the same issue. A repair tech came when my AC went out and told me that the compressor was damaged beyond repair due to the coils not having been cleaned. Summers serviced this unit in the early Spring and cleaned the coils. The repair tech said I would need a new AC unit (plus coil in the furnace). Long story short, I had the AC unit repaired 5 days later by another company for under $200.00. The real problem was that a power outage had damaged the dual capacitor. There was nothing wrong with the compressor. I saved myself $5,000, no thanks to Summers. By the way, their maintenance program is a scam. They either do not return calls for emergencies or call late at night to say no one is available.
Mark M.I would give it Zero Stars if I could. Last year our AC failed on the hottest day of the year. I called for service they sent the tech, Justin who in two minutes said I need a whole new AC and furnace (15k). I paid $90 for nothing. He didn't even close up the covers on the AC control unit when he left with my check. He said he had never seen an electrical part burn before... yo electrical parts burn all the time, that is the natural end to an electrical part working in hot conditions. He also told me quite a few more lies that I will spare you. Most importantly that my AC and Furnace are ready to be replaced. Totally lied to and fortunately I am very sensitive to BS. Save yourself time and a lot of money and benefit from my BS detector and bad experience. Call someone else. I did.
I called a small company and got it fixed for $200. The part that the tech/salesman said was ""broken"" was easily replaced and I signed up for an annual maintenance agreement and also received a ballpark quote for 60% of the quote I got from the ""worst tech"" ever to replace my AC and furnace.
Did I mention that my 9 month old baby and wife were suffering in the heat... I called the office and shared my story and asked for the manager to call me and they never responded. Maybe if that manager had called me back?
HI had a small gas leak in my home. Contacted a few companies through Yelp. Of the ones who responded, Summers and and another were able to come out the next day for an estimate. However, the other company charged $89.00 just to show up. In speaking with Summers, there was no charge to show up and give an estimate. Matt arrived on the day and time designated. He was very friendly and professional from the start. He quickly located the leak and gave me an estimate for the repair. Though, to me, it seemed a bit high for about an hour's work, I authorized the repair. Matt finished the job in about an hour, explained what the problem was, cleaned up the area he worked in and gave me an estimate for another job I plan on doing in the future. Overall, Matt is very professional and friendly. I would recommend Summers Plumbing due to the quality of service and professionalism they exhibit.
