Our home warranty company sent Stott to fix our blocked sewer. Turned out the blockage was inside the house, so not covered by our warranty, which was OK. But Stott demanded $800 to clear our drain!! They said they charge the warranty company $130 for this service, but we have to pay more because it was the weekend. We called another plumber who came right over and cleared the pipe for $205.
Obviously Stott is using the warranty company to generate calls for them, then overcharging the customer by 400% if the repair isn't covered by the warranty. They know the customer is at his most vulnerable at that time.
These guys are the best in the business. We have an old house and have used them twice on major external water line repairs (courtesy of HomeServe). Joey, Colin, and Mark (and I think at least one other) spent all day and into the evening working on this repair. They replaced the line going from the meter to the house and the waste/trap valve that was working perfectly well but had to be removed because of the repair. They were careful to protect existing trees, my pumpkin patch, and more, importantly, my driveway. Their cleanup was superb.
Had them out twice on a Homeserve warranty call for a blocked sewer line. There was no sewage backup in the home until they attempted to clear the sewer line. Then there was significant sewage backup which they then walked around the carpeted area of my basement. Then they tried to leave the job saying they were finished, when in fact the sewer line was still blocked and the basement toilet was not flushing. In the course of getting the sewer line cleared, the backup they created caused a basement floor drain to become clogged. They said they would clear that drain before they left, which they did not. That led to the email below, which I sent twice to an address provided by their receptionist, and which was never responded to. So, not only was their work inferior, but so was their business ethics and customer service. I would be very hard pressed to ever use them again.
Hi Brian,
I need to share some thoughts with you about my recent experience with Stott Plumbing in hopes that they will register with you and maybe improve the customer experience for future Stott customers.
As you know I had Stott unblock a Sewer Line at my home recently, under a Homeserve warranty, which was immediately followed by a blocked floor drain in the mechanical room. This was after Max told me that a floor drain blockage might happen and that he would clear the for drain before leaving, which obviously did not happen. Instead of just simply coming back to address the problem which Stott had created, I was forced to open another work order with Homeserve. Then when Stott did come back, they spent maybe 15 minutes trying to clear the floor drain, saying they couldn't snake the drain, and advised me that since I don't have interior plumbing coverage with Homeserve, it would cost $2800 to replace the floor drain (ie I would get to pay Stott to fix a problem they created, quite amazing).
Today I had another plumbing company come out who successfully snaked the drain and cleared the blockage for $159.
So, I am out the hassle, a Homeserve service call (which are limited in number) and $159. I suppose that's better than being out all that and an additional $2640.
I don't expect that Stott will make this right, although if customer service and customer satisfaction were important to them, they certainly should.
Sincerely,
Jim
We had a leak in the main water line. Joey and his crew came and did the work. They were very careful and I felt very comfortable with them doing the work. They showed up when they said they would and made sure when they left that the yard and house looked cleaned up.
At one time I thought they were very good but since they now have the SLC contract with Home Serve, their customer service has significantly regressed. Multiple times, my jobs have been rescheduled only to be told by their receptionist that there was a scheduling error. My neighbors and friends have told me the same has happen to them and they wonder if larger jobs or emergency jobs that have a bigger pay day are pushing other jobs aside. Nevertheless, I am losing faith in this company and would not recommend them.
Bryan's pitch to me at first was other plumbers will do a ""bad job"" and ""rip you off"" bla, bla, bla. Over three weeks later he was not returning calls failed to show up to even provide an estimate. I realize all contactors are extremely busy but just a little professional courtesy would have been appreciated.
Jen C.I had major plumbing problems and Stott came to my rescue. Not all heroes wear capes :-) I cannot say enough great things about them!
I had a leak in my basement AND a mystery sewage backup. Stott was the fourth company that came to look and they were the ones who finally figured it out. We had some miscommunication in the beginning (due to my being out of town, nothing on Stott's part) and Bryan and Mike, the owners, came to make sure we were all on the same page before they scheduled our work. They made me feel so comfortable with their bid (which was WAY less than I was expecting) and said they would begin work ASAP. They were able to push my sewer repair up by 2 days due to another cancellation. We ended up having a sewage setup Bryan and Mike had never encountered before. However, they figured it all out and made everything easier for any future issues. Bryan even sat down and drew me a diagram of what was going on and explained it in a way even I could understand. While they worked on the sewer (which took all day) they began the dig for our water main replacement (the source of my basement leak) which would happen the next day. This job ended up taking ~12 hours instead of the usual ~5. Despite all of the unexpected bumps in the road and ALL the extra work, they didn't charge me any extra from my original bid (other than the parts and labor for the sewer repair). Every employee who came to our house - from the ""inside guys"" to the excavation crew - were friendly, professional, and had masks and shoe coverings. They worked extremely hard and efficiently and notified me of any issues as they arose. I could not be more grateful for all the work they did. I will use them for any future plumbing needs and recommend them to everyone. THANK YOU STOTT!!
Main water line repair; quick, easy, professional.
A bit sloppy but it's an excavator and sewer/water line
crew. Never did get an invoice as promised or the fixture clean outs
(when you mess with a old water line, the accumulated debris/mineralization clogs your shower heads and faucets).
Otherwise, They showed up, got it done and in today's world, that's almost a 5 star rating.....
We had to use Stott for our water heater break because of our HomeServe warranty. The professional Ben was excellent. His replaced our water heater and did the upgrade needed for code regulation. He explained all his recommendations with knowledge and clarity. He was very respectful of our home and very clean with the job. The costs were less than another quote we obtained. We highly recommend Stott Plumbing, Heating & Air.
Daniel C.BEST plumbing service in Utah!! Fast service, reliable, and most of all professional. I will be recommending them to all my friends :)
