Thank you Joe for the great tips regarding the Air Gap clog. He encouraged me to fix it myself over the phone so he didn't have to come out for an easy fix and having to charge me $100. I did what he suggested and didn't have to call back for help. Thanks, Joe. You saved my marriage.

We had a 30 year old water heater go out on Thursday. We called a big name local company who came out and gave us a $2,350 estimate for a new heater.
I called Stilwell Plumbing just to get a second estimate.
I talked to Joe Stilwell who said the cost was $1,500 for exactly the same heater, brand and all.
He worked us in and by 5pm Friday we had hot water again.
If you want a truly honest plumber, Joe is your guy.
I would not hesitate to call him again.

Awesome! This review has nothing to do with his work since he didn't actually do any work. I called him to check my water heater and while he was here he looked at my dripping tub. He gave me quick fixes for both and didn't charge me a dime.

He could've easily said to replace the water heater or put new parts in the tub, but instead he told me how to easily check the water heater and that the tub parts had a lifetime warranty.

I will definitely be calling him back and recommending him to everyone.

I called Joe to repair my gas water heater that kept going out.

A different company I spoke to earlier that week was trying really hard to steer me into buying a new water heater.

When I called Joe and described the issue, he immediately knew what the problem was and told me the solution. He was able to fit me into his schedule on short notice, and came over to repair my water heater the next day. After spending a few minutes to confirm his theory, he replaced the failed part, and then taught me some basic maintenance to avoid the issue going forward.

Joe fixed the actual problem, and saved me from having to needlessly replace my water heater.
When you talk to Joe, you can tell he has a passion for his trade and just really wants to help his customers. He's got a good work ethic, and I will definitely go back to Joe for my other plumbing needs in the future.

If you've been looking for an honest old fashioned plumber that actually figures out what you need as opposed to one that's been trained to sell parts and unneeded repairs this is the one. Joe showed up and handled both problems I had called about in less than an hour and was professional the entire time even while listening to an old retired guy rant on about today's problems in the world. Joe is a seasoned Pro. I explained the problem I was having over the phone. Hot water was taking too long to reach the main bath sink and shower. He said it needed a recirculation pump and it's a common problem for many homes in Elk Grove. He instilled confidence by letting me know he's installed probably 60 recirculation pumps in Elk Grove. Had a great experience with Stillwell plumbing. We called for help with a toilet that kept clogging. Joe came out and recommended a new toilet and gave me advice on what kind to purchase. He did not charge me for this visit. Once we purchased the new toilet at Home Depot, Joe installed it and hauled our old one away. I had what I thought was a clogged toilet. I had called several places and they were either closed, couldn't arrive until the next day or quoted a very high price just to arrive and then tacked on more charges if it wasn't just a clogged toilet.
Stilwell was one of the first places I called. He was helpful and told me to try something else because he wouldn't arrive until the next day. He quoted me a reasonable call charge if he did have to come out and only a small amount more if he needed to do anything extra to unclog it. I ended up having to bring a plumber in and I chose Joe from Stilwell because he was helpful over the phone and had the best price.
He arrived the next day on time. He assessed the situation carefully. He was honest. It was more than a clogged toilet. He spent time to make sure the line was clear and he stuck to his quote.
Who could ask for more? Honest, reasonable price, quality work and no sales pressure.
