Jeff W.Got word from a tenant that the shower was stuck on at midnight. They were able to get the main-water turned off to the house, but I needed to have a solution in the AM. I called Steve at 6:15am, and he answered right away. He was at the house by 7am to see what the issue was, went and got parts, and had it done by 10am.
Great communicated throughout the job.
Could not have asked for a better experience, fastest service possible, and totally reasonable price.
He is now my go-to plumber on the Hill in DC.
A++
Best plumber in the city! He is the business of fixing things and helping others and not just making money like many contractors in the District. He is a no nonsense kind of guy on the phone and super busy but when he comes to work he will treat your house like it is his own and get the job done right.
Steve's great. I've been doing business with him regularly for fourteen years at my apartment building on Capitol Hill and at my home. He has installed plumbing for me, installed a radiator system, responded to water and heating outages, and organized a team to repair a floor and a boiler after the earthquake several years ago knocked it over. He's honest, reliable and prompt. I wouldn't call anyone else.
For Capitol Hill residents or anyone in an older home, Steve Miller and his team are the HVAC/Plumbing team you want. They always investigate first for a way to make what's installed work again, while the first suggestion of most of their competitors is ""Tear that out and put some modern plastic junk in there.""
And talk about neighborhood HVAC! Last time we called he said, ""I'll be there in 20 minutes. I am finishing up work at your neighbor's house three doors down right now.""
Great work, great insights into best way to fix things, very nice guys.

Steve and his brother Ricky are life savers. I never want to call Steve - who wants to call a plumber? -- but when you do need him he responds, shows up more or less (and better than most contractors) when he says he will, does the job and does it well. Steve's a blunt, straight shooter but he knows his stuff.
I've used other plumbing services. No one does as well as Steve & Ricky. An example: I had a clog. The plumber I called showed up without a snake, told me he'd have to come back with the machine and that it would cost $500+ just to walk in the door. Steve came - for a second opinion - said the machine to snake out the pipe would cost a similar amount, but to let him try a low-tech solution first. It worked. Saved me hundreds of dollars. That's the difference, the original plumber wanted to use the expensive machine, Steve just wanted to get the job done and out of my way.
Another example, I recently had the line between my house and the main sewer break over the weekend. Ricky, Steve's brother, came on Sunday. They figured out the problem and made it so we could use our plumbing overnight. They showed up first thing the next day next day, found the break in the pipe, replacing the pipe and reconstructed the areas they had to tear up to expose the break. They basically did it all basically in one day (some clean-up reconstruction work was left over and promptly completed the next day). As I said above, they were life savers... well, home savers at any rate.
I highly recommend Steve Miller Plumbing.
Bad experience - twice!! Installed a Toto commode in upstairs bath - 2 months later the flushing mechanism actually fell apart. Called for repair - they did not honor the warranty and attempted to bill - refused to pay.
Installed hot water heater and complained the whole time about having to do the job himself!! Actually cursed at me when I accidentally tripped on my garden hose that he had on the floor to ciphon the water from the tank.
Peter T.Called twice for them to come and look at a plumbing problem in the kitchen. Both times i was left waiting at home and he never showed up. I will be calling somewhere else.
