I cannot stand these people. They repeatedly lied to us. My building gave them the key to the boiler room and Belsito's guys would just show up randomly and lie to my face about what they were doing.
Example - they were tending to the electrical panel of our heating boiler 'because the buttons were sticking'. Why were they there pushing the buttons to begin with? No explanation.
Example - the electrical panel was no longer controlling the heating pumps. I learn later that the panel never controlled the pumps, which had their own separate on-off switch.
Example - they replaced valves in the apartment radiators when needed and charged the owners $750+, saying that the valves needed to be welded in place. It turns out that the valves can be purchased for $75 each and screwed in place by hand, which we now do. I get it - they need to make money but that is price gouging.
Lisa H.As a Property Manager for 10 buildings, Belsito is the first I call whenever I'm experiencing any issues with plumbing and heating. I've been using this company for 4 years and I met them through a company I used to work for. Dealing with Frank and Eric has made things a lot easier in my life, they are honest, professional and efficient.
Andy Andy B.The primary reason for our appointment was a toilet that kept running water. It made noise, it wasted water, and it inflated our building's water bill.
The toilet stopped running just in time for the appointment, and I didn't know how to reproduce and demonstrate the problem. The plumbers assured me that there was absolutely nothing wrong, and since my wife noticed the problem more than I did they explained to me ""what women don't understand about buildings like these."" Blech.
They started working on a secondary problem, before eventually concluding that they didn't have appropriate equipment, and we made a follow up appointment with the parent company, for which I paid but did not receive a receipt, and I'm not sure if I got proper change.
I watched one youtube video on common problems with toilet tanks, and saw what was very likely the reason for the running water. I waited till it started happening again, confirmed the cause was as expected, and fixed it.
The office refunded us when we cancelled the follow up appointment.
Gaia D.I've used Belsito several times. They are quick and efficient. They got my water heater and furnace back up and running after hurricane Sandy. They fixed a leaky faucet in my bathtub, replaced my kitchen sink faucet after a leak went unnoticed and damaged my downstairs neighbors apartment. When my toilet was running they walked me through how I could fix it by simply replacing the Gorky flapper! They always show up with a smile and a joke and leave the place cleaner than they found it.
Unfortunately I have to agree with the other people who were also misquoted. I should've looked at this sooner so I could get a quote in writing, but I learned my lesson the hard way. My hot water heater broke on a Saturday and I called Belsito because they've done work in our building before. I was thankful that John came to our apt fairly quickly, although he was only there for 5 minutes to say that we needed it replaced and there was nothing that could be done til at least Monday. I didn't realize that it cost $450 for him to tell me that. On Monday I called twice to get an estimate and the woman on the phone said it would be $1095. This sounded reasonable especially since John had given me his best guess at around $1200. So the new water heater was installed and afterwards I was told it was actually $1950! I honestly don't know if they gave me the wrong number on purpose or by accident but there was nothing I could do. I'm giving 2 stars because johnny and his co-worker did a great job at installing, but I would never use this company again.
I called Belsito to fix a small plumbing issue, and I will give them one star for coming on time and one star for fixing the problem. My complaints involve them: not agreeing to give me a price on the job before they started (if they had quoted me half of what I eventually paid, I would not have allowed them to start), billing for 2 people for a 1 person job, not giving me any kind of receipt after the job was done, and basically charging Manhattan Penthouse prices for a small central Brooklyn job. This was not an aberration, this is how they do business.
I had a small leak in my toilet. Called these guys and wish I had not. The phone operator told me the cost would be around 175 for repair. They charged me 350 and three days later the entire flushing mechanism broke. I called them back because they have a year warranty on their work. They came back and without even looking to see what was wrong, they told me I needed a 600$ part and that didn't include labor, but in an attempt to appear generous said they'd deduct the original cost from this fee. I looked online and to get the entire structure for the back of my toilet (it's a flushometer toilet) and couldn't find the entire set up for more than 120$ so I called several hardware stores to make sure I was looking at the right things and couldn't get a quote higher than 100$ for THE ENTIRE SET UP.
These guys ripped me off on parts and labor. In the end they were going to charge me over 1,000$ in total, but agreed to knock 300$ off after I complained loudly. Not enough.
Summary: Overprice, overcharge, replace parts that don't need to be replaced, and attempt to charge hundreds of dollars for a follow up after they failed to fix the problem the first time.
Belsito and sons plumbing sent Frank to investigate a heating problem and noise coming from our circulator. He replaced the water pump and charged us for 3 hours of labor. After we were given an invoice this problem was corrected and they refunded the extra hour of labor. However the heating issue was not resolved, and we continued to go without heat for weeks. WE called them back to investigate the issue and initially they said they would not charge if it was related to the original charge. Frank came back once to inspect everything, let some air out of the system, and said everything was fine. We continued to lack heat and they never returned our calls after this. We enlisted another plumber at this time who found there was significant air in the system and that there was low pressure in the water heaters. They have now sent us a bill twice for 321 for they're second visit to let air out of the system. I will not pay this as at this point it is dubious that even the circulator pump needed to be replaced.
These guys have renewed my faith in plumbers! I highly recommend them. They showed up on time, were exceedingly courteous, quickly fixed our problem and charged a fair price (totally in line with what had been quoted by the other plumbers). They even gave a helpful recommendation (which will save me money and time) for maintenance on a patio drain that gets easily clogged. I will absolutely call them again for any plumbing problems I have, not just for my apartment in Greenpoint but for other apartments I help manage on the Upper East Side.
Called Belsito for the first time a few weeks ago for a clog in my bathroom sink. Rather than use a sewer cable thing, the plumber used some sort if acid even though it was clearly my children's bathroom colorfully decorated with toys all around. The acid not only created a toxic smell through out my whole house, it stained my sink. When i questioned the plumber about it, in a rude manner he told me its a special chemical treatment and plumbers dont use snakes anymore. I wont be calling belsito next time
