The not good rating is due to the outrageous pricing of this company.
I live locally in Charlestown and have used Stedman several times.
I had an appointment for installation a gas shut off valve in an existing gas line.Two plumbers showed up with no parts to do the job. I was charged travel time and also the plumbers time at the shop to prepare for the installation. I was also charged a $10 fuel charge. ( I live less than 2 miles away from shop. The plumbers returned and completed the job with no problems. They spent exactly 55 minutes at my home. The labor charge was for 2 hours at $135 per hour. I would recommend if you use them make sure you get all the hidden charges before you hire them. I will not be using them again and would not recommend them to any of my local friends and neighbors.

At first very nice and professional fixing shower heads in two bathrooms that leaked. I asked about price of parts and she couldn't tell me, said they do that at the office. I know when I go to get my oil changed they ask what grade the cheap or the best, maybe something in the middle. No couldn't tell me but said maybe $150? I thought that was a lot on top of the extra $50 they charge on top of labor for the first hour. Now almost done she stated oh I noticed your hose lines for your washer were old and needing replacing. I know it was on my todo list, she had they in her van so I agreed on up sale since she had them and it would be quick. Wrong almost 30 minutes later shows me how they broke apart even though I didn't she her do it in front of me then later informs me she now needs to change the valve as well - again no idea because she can't tell me what the price of parts will be but I know the hourly rate is being racking up. She calls the owner he's no help tells me he sent the best, I asked would you of sent me the worst? Now I have to watch over to confirm or question if anything else would need repair. Once finished she cleaned up quick and left. I took pictures just Incase they try to add time. I was so hopeful at the beginning but sadly it looks like I will be looking for someone else the next time a plumber is needed.

I have this company on speed dial for all of my plumbing issues. Brendan is the best! Super knowledgeable, reliable, and honest! Many plumbing companies will try and take advantage of customers when their boilers stop working. Not these guys! Brendan informed me that a small component needed to be replaced and came out with the part the next day. I will definitely use these guys for when my boiler needs to be replaced and I know I will get an upfront and honest price. Thank you Brendan! You are a true professional:)

I was referred to these guys by my oil Company. I was looking for someone to ""shut down and open up"" my summer home each year. Bill Stedman visited and reviewed the plumbing in my older home. He gave me a price and delivered as promised.
They showed up on time and did a great job. In the spring they were able to open the house up in a rush do to other contractor failures.
