I recently had StayDry® complete an inspection of my home. I've had problems with water in my basement over the years and decided to fix the problem once and for all. I actually had three different people look at my basement. I decided to call StayDry® because they were a local contractor. Here were some of the reasons I ultimately went with and am happy with StayDry®: They responded and came out right away. The price wasn't too high and they quoted an amount that reflected the actual work that needed to be done. They also recommended some products that they thought would ultimately keep my basement dry, even in pouring rain. I am particularly happy with the sump pump and French drain system that they installed. Thank you David Brown and StayDry®!
I had been in my home for a little over a year before I noticed water coming into my basement. I called two other companies first, one was local and the other one was based out of Detroit. The other local company put me a on a two month waiting list, with the hope that they could get to me by then. The company based out of Detroit never returned my call or email. I called Stay Dry, and an appointment was made to come out to perform and assessment and estimate within a week. The owner, Dave, was actually the one to come out to my home.
He arrived on time, introduced himself and wanted to look over the house thoroughly to ensure I did not have any external issues that could have caused the water coming into my basement. He explained the whole process in detail, and wanted to make sure that I understood the system, how it worked and how it would be installed. He was very personable, and showed a genuine concern for my situation. The estimate I was given was very fair and reasonable.
On installation day, the team showed up on time and prepared. They showed concern and respect for my home by protecting the carpet, walls and making every effort to reduce the dust and debris created from the installation process. They even let me know before they started using the jack hammer so I could remove my dogs from the house!
Installation was completed within a day, and Dave even took the time to be on site to make sure everything was done to standard. The crew did a great job in cleaning up, and went over the things to look for and expect in regards to the concrete curing. Within a week, I had moved everything back into that area, and it was like nothing had ever happened!
Since then, there have been a few days with a good amount of rainfall, and I have absolutely no water within the basement!
I would highly recommend this company for any homeowner that has water issues in their house!
A week after Dave hung up on me, with no further communication, on April 21, 2017, I received a call from Tony. He stated that the owner had given him permission to fill the crack for free. When I asked if there was going to be a warranty, he told me he wouldn't say but there would be a written agreement. He told me he would follow up with information about a warranty. He then told me someone else would call me to schedule a date and time. I never received a call back from Tony about the warranty.
A few hours later, John called me to set up an appointment. We scheduled it for May 3rd. He told me that there was going to be a ""release/waiver"" to sign. I said that must be what Tony meant by written agreement. I asked if it's possible, I'd like to see this document before the worker came out to my house on May 3rd.
On May 2nd, I received a phone call from John confirming the appointment for May 3rd. I asked about not receiving a copy of the ""written agreement/release/waiver"" and he chuckled. He said he does see a special instruction note on my file and that the worker would handle that the next day.
Staydry did not show up on May 3rd, nor did they even bother to call.
On May 12th, I received a voicemail from John asking to set up a time for the work to be completed. No mention of previous appointment but did mention the written agreement/waiver/release that needs to be signed prior to the work being completed. I told him that I had an appointment for May 3rd and nobody showed up. He told me higher ups decided to pull the plug on that appointment a few hours prior to the appointment. I asked about the written agreement and he said Tony would have to call me back. When Tony called, he asked to set up the appointment and I reminded him that I had an appointment back on May 3rd and nobody showed up or even called. He said it could have been because of my ""postings."" He said the written agreement is that they will perform the work for free if I would remove my postings, including my complaint to the BBB. I told him I would not be willing to do that. He told me they will be replying to my postings. I told him everything in my postings is the truth and I wouldn't want potential customers to not see them. I have every voicemail they've left me and phone conversations we've had.
5 Stars - Fortitude. I would like to commend the first crew for their willingness to work in the harsh environment. The days were cold, the crawl space was very muddy, and it was full of spiders.
3 Stars - Timeliness. The first crew never arrived at the times they said. Tuesday the showed up two hours late.
2 Stars - Lack of resources. They only had two rain gear between the five of them. This reduced the amount of work that could have been done. It was not until the third day they decided to use storage bags to go into the crawlspace. This extended the completion time of the job.
2 Stars - Dedication. The first crew lack of work dedication; at least twice there were two or three guys sitting in the truck while two others were working. On another occasion, it took 45 minutes for three guys to walk to/from the store with two bags of bug spray.
2 Stars - Communication. The company lacked communication; the crew rarely updated me on the progress of the work and the office staff did not always keep me informed of required city inspections. Also, the first crew did not call to let me know that they were on their way. On one day the crew just packed up, got in the truck, and were about to leave. If I hadn't gone over there and inquired, I would not have known about change of appointment for the city inspector.
5 Stars - KUDOS goes to Justin, the crew chief of the second crew assigned to finish the job. He got all the crew working (even though they lacked the rain gear needed), communicated with me, and they stayed until the 6 pm to complete the job.
We have never been disappointed by the company. Besides doing an excellent job on our basement, they were VERY DEPENDABLE which was important to us inasmuch as most of the companies we have been dealing with lately don't show up at the time they promise and never call to let us know they aren't coming. Everyone we dealt with at StayDry has been easy to work with, always pleasant, professional and courteous. When we talk to people about the service they receive from other companies we always tell them about Stay Dry and the good service we received. They set the bar very high. I wish everyone we had to deal with could meet their high standards.

Daniel U.Awesome service. I had these folks install the pump spy sump pump at a fairly remote location - a cabin - last fall. I had one alert on my phone last June notifying me that the sump pump had turned on (definitely a cause for alarm) and they sent a technician out to check it out - free of charge. Turns out I had left a basement window slightly open and melting snow triggered it. They closed everything up and called me back to let me know it was just doing its job but no emergency and all systems were working. Definitely A-1 service from day 1 and I'm a customer for life.
House in western michigan with a shallow crawl space; not much room to work. Crawl had standing water and of course floors were rotting away and mildew smell throughout the house. Lots of debris in the crawl also.
The estimate was on the high end, but after seeing the time and effort AND finished product, I was glad I got the work done.
I commend the staff of guys who did the work. It's a summer cottage so I was not present while work was being completed. They called each night with updates which kept me satisfied.
The finished product is quite amazing. I could sleep in the crawl space if I wanted to. Drain tiles added, sump pump perfect, all new lining taped up snug to the walls and around pillars.
I recently purchased a home in Michigan and a month after moving in, I discovered water coming into the basement after a heavy rain. I contacted several waterproofing companies for a quote. After interviewing providers and finalizing my research, my wife and I selected Stay Dry. They were not the least expensive, but for the job that NEEDED to be done, I didn't want to chance it. I wanted to select a provider that could do the job right the first time. Stay Dry was that provider.
I first met with a Sales Rep who came on site and inspected my basement. His recommendations were spot on to what I needed. he didn't try to sell me fluff or make promises that were unrealistic. Upon signing an agreement, work was scheduled about three weeks later.
There were a total of three more visits. The first involved the crew that installed a new foundation in my basement. The second installed the block wall that was to hold any new water back. Finally, the third installed the crock, sump pump, and finalized the cement work.
Every employee at Stay Dry was professional, personable, and courteous. I count it a triumph for quests to be in my home and my dogs not to go nuts.
After the work the guys at Stay Dry performed, I count them as friends and would welcome them into my home. They are that good.
These guys are top notch.
Jill W.Zero Stars, stay away from this company. This has been the worst most frustrating experience of my life. I originally had them install a water proofing system in the basement in 2006. They recommended that the perimeter of half the basement be installed. I agreed with their estimate and had the work performed.
Then in 2012 I experienced water again in my basement and called them back to fulfill their warranty. They said that since I hadn't had the whole basement installed that their warranty was not in effect. That I would need to have the other half of the basement done and then the warranty would be good and I would have a dry basement. This was a very expensive proposal as the basement is finished and required tearing out a bathroom as well as the walls and tile flooring. I went a head and hired them for the additional work and had to hire a contractor to put the basement back together. My understanding at that time was that since this was new work, they did not cover the cost of tearing out and putting back the bathroom. The salesman stood in my basement and swore to me that I would now have a dry basement and a good and enforceable warranty.
In the summer of 2014 I experienced water in the basement again. I called them back and from the moment they came on my property, they were trying to tell me that a. The problem was not their fault and b. they were not going to pay for it. We pulled off the bottom half of a wall of drywall (on the same wall as the work originally had been done) and found that the water was coming from the bottom of the wall by their system. His workers admitted that the system had not been installed properly and that there was a lip open in the plastic that would explain the water seeping in. They also expressed that I probably never needed to get the second half of the basement done ass this was probably the problem all along. After presenting me with an estimate to fix the work, they agreed to fix it at their expense.
Now I am trying to get them to pay for the drywall repair and the reinstalling the carpet and new pad. Dave Brown drove down from Lansing to stand in my house and yell at me that he would in no way pay for these repairs. That it is not included in the warranty and he couldn't stay in business paying for all the work every time one of his systems failed. Apparently they fail a lot!! He explained that he hasn't worked in 8 years because he doesn't have to, I don't know why he kept saying that. He was a bully and abusive while on my premises until I needed to demand that he leave.
I would never recommend this company to any one at anytime. They do not stand by their work. They will weasel any way to get out of honoring their warranty. I am taking them to small claims court in order to be compensated for the repairs to my house after their system failed to work because it was improperly installed. I have pictures to document the problem and their failures as a basement waterproofing company.
Had them out to encapsulate my crawl space. Musky odors were entering the the house. Was told that their encapsulation process would eliminate the orders. They now tell me that the back of their contract says that they do not guarantee against odors. Shady, people and rude. They got my $8K and I still have the same smelly crawl space. Run far from these guys!
