They charged us $650 for a useless procedure and refuse to respond to my complaints. Stanley Lewis plumbing sent two guys to send an exploratory camera down our sewer to see why we were getting sewage water into our basement. They spent no more than 1/2 hr and charged us $650. The report was that our Victorian sewer was in perfect condition. Unfortunately the sewer water continued to come into our house. We have since had two additional scopes plus die tests both confirming the corroded cast iron pipe was leaking badly into the soil and draining into our basement. I would not recommend this company to do any work. They sent technicians who did not perform their job properly and a negligent about customer service and follow up. I am extremely dissatisfied.
Elizabeth A.OK. After a fairly long relationship with Stanley Lewis Plumbing, I'm in the market for a new company. Yes, he was there for me when I needed him in the past, but as time went on, his prices became more and more unreasonable. For little things, like a leak or a clog. Single female seeks plumbers who won't jack up their price in response to my long-term loyalty and devotion. Any recommendations? Stanley Lewis and I are officially broken up.
I stumbled on the reviews for Stanley Lewis Plumbing. After Sandy in 2012, I contracted with Stanley Lewis to replace the heating and hot water heating system in my home in Canarsie, Brooklyn. The price was fair. As the job progressed, Alex came to me about needing to install a larger diameter black iron gas pipe. The work was the same, maybe $20 more for the pipe. He came up with an additional cost of $1400. I bargained him down to $1200 which I paid. I was leaving for Israel in a couple of days and didn't want the hassle. It bothers me because I'm a shop teacher by profession, and understand how this stuff is done. Ten years late I still feel totally screwed. The kid that they sent to install the thermostat didn't know what he was doing. I did that part of the job myself.
Despite being calls with an arrival time in the AM, late by 90 minutes. Didn't fix anything and tried to insist entire system should be replaced (despite the issue being a part that another plumber found easily). Tried to overcharge for time. Nice techs, horrible office staff and culture.
Rita B.After having a bad experience with another company a friend gave me this company on list of his recommendations. This was the 1st company I called and decided to go with it since it's an old Brooklyn business and the quick response. The office clerk, Tam was EXCELLENT and professional....no issue with at all! She kept me updated and answered all my questions. This gave me hope of a positive outcome.
Next, the plumber appeared in the afternoon and diagnosed my problem and explained my issue with my waste pipe and what needed to be done. I asked him for a price for the job so I could know if this company was reasonable.....The plumber assured me they weren't cheap but the work would be good. In response he took several photos of my issue and called someone (guessing in his office). After they discussed the project, I was given a price...in fact the plumber make sure I write it down! Funny I didn't ask for a written estimate.
Today he showed up on time and went to work immediately. When the job was done and finished, the plumber started telling me that the job was more expensive now....I was floored. He then tried to explain the justification for the increase which wasn't something I was interested in (please note he never told me exactly how much more).
I explained to him that if there was going to be a more expensive job he should have told me before he started the job....he had consulted with the office and that's how they gave me the price! This was a clear attempt at a ""bait and switch.""
In response he called the office and spoke to someone...he went outside to do the bill in his truck....when he returned the price was only $13 more than the quoted price!
This attempt at deception isn't appreciated and would never use this company again!!!!!
My Rheem high efficiency hot water heater broke while still under warranty but manufacturer said it would be a 40 business day supply delay due to COVID production issues! Stanley Lewis worked very hard on finding me a solution with another manufacturer that would not require changing my pipes. My hot water heater is on the 4th floor of my NYC townhouse and that added to the instalation issues. Mr. Alex Lewis and his technical team were very responsive, professional and personable in handling my situation.
Be aware of this company, they try to get $1200 from me for a $50 job. Be aware of them they will try to convince you there a bigger problem than what you have just get more money out of you. I had a very bad experience with them.
Olivia B.The only thing more annoying than a blocked up shower, is a blocked up shower during a pandemic. after 4 days of fruitless efforts of cleaning & snaking our tub and sink drains, and lobs of funk pulled out, our tub still wasn't draining. I called Stanley late on a Monday afternoon and they were able to get 2 plumbers out to us Tuesday morning. The plumbers arrived in the 9-11 am window, and were fast and professional. They wore masks and solved our problem quickly! The shower has never worked better. We paid a fair price (~$200) for a bit over an hour of work, the clog was in there deep! I will definitely call them again.
Stanley Lewis installed new shower fixtures (requiring the walls to be opened) in both of my bathrooms and also retiled afterward - the job was professional and the plumber, Cliff, who did the work is courteous, professional and delightful. The work was well done.
George F.Do not use this company! Their servicemen/ technicians cannot be trusted, in my opinion. After using this company for seven years, we're finally never calling them again. For the last couple years the bills always seemed to include some superfluous item, but we just paid it for the sake of peace of mind. We finally had a situation where recently the serviceman dispatched by Stanley- Lewis tried to convince us to buy a new toilet to the tune of $600.00 to $700.00. After buying a $10.00 auger at Home Depot and working it for two minutes, the previously clogged toilet was unclogged and fully functional. The relationship between plumber/ servicemen and client is based on trust and Stanley- Lewis unfortunately has broken that bond.
