Jason W.Well...I would like to leave a good review, as everyone else here did, but the simple fact of the matter is this; their plumber did not assess the problem with my leaking toilet when he first got here. He did his job quickly and I figured it would be fixed, considering these are professionals and I am not one. Two visits later and two flaps later, the problem still persisted. I figured out what the actual problem was on my own, and told the company myself. Instead of sending someone out for 10 minutes to fix the problem that the original plumber should have spotted the first time around, I got a call from the master plumber explaining to me that it would be a ten dollar discount on the labor (which is still pretty damn expensive). So I payed a fair amount of money...and still have the original leaking toilet. I am done with DC service folks. This is the third poor excuse I have come into contact with for home repair in the two years I have lived here. I guess when the market is huge, there's plenty of room for half-decent service.
Overall, I would love to leave these guys at least 4 stars, because their customer service and the plumber who came out were all extremely nice, and that goes a LONG way. But I still have a leaking toilet, and it should have been assessed properly on the first visit.
Called Spartan on a recommendation from an acquaintance to have an overhaul done on the boiler pipes in our basement. We were told that we would be charged a service fee to even receive an estimate on the work needing to be done. We found this to be ridiculous and will not be using their service. Bad business decision on their part when an over haul like what we are looking at will most likely run in the thousands of dollars. Their loss and somebody else's gain.
I called spartan three consecutive days and every day they said there were going to call and come. I did not receive any calls, not even to tell me they were not going to make the appointments. I will not be using them in the future.
Chris F.Friendly phone representative, and they were able to come out the same day I called to fix a plumbing issue. Courteous, fast and professional. You really can't ask for more than that!
Sarah M.My first recommendation is not to leave the toilet open when you're getting something out of the medicine cabinet above it. However, if you DO knock something into your toilet while it's flushing, call Spartan to get it out.
I called on a Monday morning and was able to get a plumber out to my house when it was convenient for me. They called 45 minutes prior to arrival as promised, and the plumber arrived in the window they gave me. That's pretty rare in the home service industry.
My plumber, Cleo, was courteous, professional, and worked quickly. He was even kind enough not to laugh too hard at my predicament when I explained.
Based on a Yelp reviews I called Spartan and got timely, courteous and reasonably priced service for a small plumbing problem at our Capitol Hill residence. Did not know it was a woman owned business until the truck pulled up... That was a nice additional point to convince me that roto rooter will not be in my future. I will use Spartan again as my plumber of choice
I don't usually post review, but some of those bad experiences deserve a warning.
I made an appointment with this company, and I agreed to the 12pm-5pm time frames. They called me at 12:18. I realized I missed the phone call, 5 minutes later ( 12:23) I tried to call them back. They explained that they were in front of the building and they had already left, they needed to reschedule. I told them I am home, my schedule from 12 to 5 have been cleared up. They said that they might come later or not, or I can reschedule for the next day (once again 12pm to 5).
When I heard that I was still calm , but the attitude of the person I talked to on the phone drove me crazy.
My problem is the person I talked to, told me about their 30 min notice. Nobody called me 30 min earlier to let me know they were on their way, and when I tried to explain the situation to the person on the phone he started to basically act with me like I was crazy, treating me like a liar, refusing to accept the facts and acting rude.
What is good with technology is that you can see who calls you and when and this is how I know exactly when they called me and when I called back. (5 min later)
I am not expecting them to wait for me, or call me a thousand time. But 5 min? Knowing they never called 30 min earlier to let me know they were on their way. They couldn't wait 5 min but I took the time to clear up 5 hours of my schedule for them. What really pissed me of is when this person on the phone, instead of trying to fix the situation and find a way to make it works, basically treated me like I was lying.
There are thousands of company out there that does a great job, the only way to differentiate yourself in this market is to provide good customer service, something that this company obviously missed.
Ebonee S.I've used Spartan plumbing several times and have recommended them to clients as well. They are professional, show up on time, and do excellent work. However if you need parts you should buy them yourself because their mark-up is outrageous. Their rates for labor only are reasonable though.
I live in Washington, DC and had a problem with my toilet. I called Spartan because I liked the reviews and also liked that it is woman-owned. The plumber's first trip to my home was quick. The problem was fairly simple- but my toilet required special metric tools (blame the architect-contractor who managed my remodel). I was 30 minutes from the start of a dinner party and found myself w an unfixable toilet. The spartan guy was gracious enough to provide a professional courtesy and not charge me for the visit because he did not have the right tools.
I called Spartan to schedule a new appointment (w the specialized tools)-- and also promptly began referring spartan's services to colleagues and friends.
On the date of the reschedule-- the plumber fixed my toilet in 34 minutes. he told me 2 things. #1 I would be charged in 30 minute increments. so anything over 30 minutes is another $89. w labor and parts, my bill was $199. The second thing he told me was that he was instructed ""to make sure I was charged for an hour""-- to make up for the ""free service"" I received the first trip out to my place.
seriously? I could have brought so much business to this company-- people are always looking for a good plumber and to support small businesses-- instead-- Spartan wanted to find a way to deceptively back charge me. I had been an advocate for spartan. no more.
Spartan-- I hope the extra $89 is worth it.
My problem was relatively simple (low coolant and a missing cap), so I didn't necessarily test out how good Spartan is with a more serious problem. But they got me an appointment just a few days out, called when they were on their way, showed up on time, diagnosed the problem exactly right, fixed it efficiently, and charged a reasonable amount (at least, reasonable for DC). Works for me.
