I am giving them a one star not because of the service it was the price gouging. We had a water line bust under ground right near our basement. It was leaking into our sump pump and on floor. We wasn't able to get a local person to fix it. My husband called Southern Trust Home Services. The service man came and put a band aid on the problem. He dug three feet and fixed three feet of pipe. We were charged 3316.00. He did give us the quote before he did it. We were desperate and we felt we were taking advantage of. It wasn't the service mans fault it is the price gouging of the company, We will not use them again.
Hey Ted, by the comments you are absolutely a crooked company. You never once offer a solution the myriad of one star reviews, you just say... I'll be in touch. Thank goodness for Yelp, they kept me away for you guys.
Mary J.Southern Trust is very good at taking pictures and writing up extremely high quotes for work they say needs to be done on your equipment. I purchased the service agreement and the last time they were here they pointed out how dirty my A/C was but didn't bother to clean anything. Left me with quote of things they could fix but they can't clean it? I will not renew my agreement with them and suggest to anyone looking to hire a company you look elsewhere.
The plumber was very friendly and knowledgeable, but they initially provided three options that involved memberships, even after I said that I was not interested right now. I had to press for the appropriate cost.
After finding a water pipe leak in our front yard. That we dig up to the pipe with miss utility and the water authorities help. We asked Southern Trust to come out and see what a patch or repair would cost. They estimated 2.5k$ to patch the pipe. After telling them they can kindly go home and joke about tale to their boss, we called an actually reasonable plumber who was able to patch the pipe for 1/5 the price. Not to mention southern said they could fix it same day and could not. Get multiple quotes do not soley rely on these people.
Christine P.I called Southern Trust to look at fixing the broken handle on a toilet that's pretty new as well as a loose kitchen faucet handle. All the kitchen handle needed was a missing screw but the tech wanted to replace the entire faucet. We bought a new townhouse in 2021 and it was new construction when we moved in. The quotes we were given were extremely exhoribant in price, see attached ""professional recommendations"". We refused to allow them to complete any work. I questioned the tech about the ridiculous prices as I've worked with many plumbers over my 25 years as a homeowner. His speel is we are the best company in the area and our work is guaranteed. They were trying to sell a service contract as well.
I got a replacement lever myself at Lowes for under $19.00 and my husband and I fixed it ourselves in less than 5 minutes. The cheapest quote I got from Southern Trust was $347 for tank handle replacement. What a rip-off.
The worker told my husband we were rude before he left since we were questioning the ridiculous estimates we were given. I would hesitate before calling them.
We called for two minor repairs for an almost new home and would have been fine paying around $200 to get the toilet handle fixed and the screw replaced on our kitchen sink handle. INSTEAD we got estimates ranging from $347 to $3502.99 for the simple repair of replacing a toilet handle and replacing a missing screw set. We don't need a new toilet installed when all it needed was a toilet handle. I don't need a new kitchen faucet, I just need a screw for the handle.
My husband and I are not very handy at repairs, and yet, we replaced the toilet handle in FIVE minutes for $19.00. The handle I bought has a FIVE year warranty, so I could replace it every FIVE years for NINETY years before it would cost me $347.
I have used this company for over a year and they seem pretty good. They have done some electrical work for me and a couple of HVAC inspections. I'll admit, being new in the area I was a bit surprised to find out that I had an air exchange filter under my home that the second inspection found, but was missed by the first inspection, but all is good. Sometimes small things are missed.
As for the pricing, try living in Richmond and see what plumbing and electrical work cost, as well as routine maintenance. I feel, and everyone has an opinion, the prices are fair and the technicians are timely, which is missing in other companies. The young lady I spoke with for my last inspection had it set up in two days, and the technician was on time and took the time to take pictures for me in my crawl space and review those pics with me.
Just wondering Ted, with all these 1 star ratings, maybe you should revamp your pricing and overall quality of work?? Just a suggestion.
I cannot speak to other reviews, but my experience was poor. I was out of the country and had a water heater fail at a rental property. I called to have an estimate and was told the heater had failed and needed replacement. This was not unexpected as it was an older unit. What was unexpected was the initial $4000 quote to replace the heater. I was not in a position to shop this around as I had a tenant with no hot water. I was able to get the price down after negotiation, but still at an exhorbitant level. In my opinion, they took advantage of the situation. To their credit, they got the work done (I still have not inspected it), and I appreciate that aspect. I conveyed my issues about the ethics of the pricing and that I felt they were taking advantage of my situation, but the service manager was combative. He may claim pricing was given up front, but I never received an itemized quote breaking down all costs and they well knew I would have difficulty shopping it around from out of the country. I am sure there will be the typical excuses and response from this company (which the manager told me he would do if I wrote this review), but I would certainly recommend going somewhere else. Ethics are ethics.
CUSTOMER BEWARE!!! I recently used Southern Trust Home Services to address an electrical issue I had at our home. The technician came out and identified that it was simply a breaker that had failed, and needed to be replaced. In less than an hour they identified the problem and replaced the breaker. However, then the technician told me the cost was $441. I asked why replacing a $10 breaker costs $441. He said he didn't know, and couldn't provide a breakdown. It's just what their program told him. I followed up by calling the company's office, and they too could not provide me a breakdown. All she could say was that the standard cost for a single 20 amp, single pole breaker replacement was $441.
So I did my own breakdown. Given the breaker cost $10 (Home Depot cost), that leaves $431 for 1 hour of labor, plus say worse case a 30 minute drive to my house, and overhead costs. Assuming that this electrician (a fairly young guy) gets paid $35/hr, and their overhead rate equal to 100% of the raw labor rate, then the cost for labor and overhead is $70 per hour. This would result in a cost of $105 for the 1.5 hours. If you subtract $10 (for breaker) and $105 (for labor and overhead) from $441, that leaves $326. That means the company made over $300 in profit on a $10 breaker.
Based on this, my recommendation to you is to NOT hire them for home services, but buying stock in the company because they certainly know how to turn a profit.
