Smoaks came to install an hvac and did not have the proper permits (nor did the owner who had them install it have proper condo association approval to move forward). We called the zoning commission when they arrived and the Charleston permit folks told Smoaks that needed a permit as installing a 7.5 platform in a flood zone for a new hvac and they only had a permit for the system replacement. Smoaks said they would get the permits and wait for approval-they did not. Now there is an illegal structure in my yard. Would not recommend if want things done legally. You can also see that the platform does not match the other platform nor have privacy fence which we have requested the condo owner to have Smoaks fix in the future. If you want things to look nice or legal-choose someone else.

Messaged Smoak on their website for a service call estimate to check my broken HVAC. Someone called me quickly and we set up an appointment. They charge $94 for the service call, plus whatever the repair costs. They didn't indicate that $94 would go towards any repairs like a competitor did. The competitor charged $79 for service calls. Before Smoak came to check my HVAC, I got another company to come. Appeared my HVAC was toast. So instead I got Smoak to come for an estimate to replace the unit. Jay B. came and was very friendly and honest. He asked how much my other estimate was and said they would be a little higher; sounded like a little over $6K for a basic 14 seer unit. He said he'd still email me the estimate later that day just in case the other company didn't have any availability to install soon (told him I'd pay couple hundred more vs not having AC for couple weeks). Four days later, no estimate. That's my only knock against Smoak from a very limited experience, that and they seem to charge a little more for service calls and new installs.

Came right away to fix cast iron sewer pipe leak. Thought they might have to cut a hole in bathroom Sheetrock--would have made job more costly for me to repair in the end. They were able to do a workaround and total repair was kept to crawl space Price was reasonable. I recommend them. This was second time I've used them--pleased both times

Always easy to deal with. Remember that HVAC repairs can be costly. They charge fair prices and never """"nickle and dime"""" you. Been using them for about four years for my home and my Mother's as well. My Fraternal Lodge does as well, never an issue. In fact, they installed two new systems at the Lodge in 2018. And their quote was by far the best for the Trane systems we wanted. No problems that was the result of failure due to materials or labor. Did have to repair when vent pipe cover damaged and debris fell in and caused internal unit damage. Fixed within four hours and did a courtesy check of the other unit and our gas stove. They always set up a time and then call when the technician is on the way. Tell you what is wrong when done and always ready to answer your questions before/at start/end of job. Never had a """"baloney type"""" answer. Commercial or residential . . . they know what to do. Highest recommendation.

Smoak's was highly recommended to me by my smart buddy who has lived here for years. Very professional guys just installed my replacement HVAC (heat pump + fan unit & coils + thermostats). Two-story house, needed zoning to help even out the temperature between the two floors. Old unit was *old* -- 20 years old ... very fortunate that it lasted this long. Great, professional people to work with. So glad I took advantage of the winter-time pricing -- what a great time this week to have this done! Will continue to have all my HVAC needs addressed by Smoak's.

The technician arrived on time and completed the job. I was STUNNED to find out they they charged me $181 for a $15 part- Titan HD Run Capacitor 35+5, which took less than 5 minutes to install.

We just had a new water heater installed. Al did a great job explaining what the best options were & what was best for us. They came back the same day with everything they needed & everything was installed/replaced the way it should be. We are extremely pleased. We have used them about 20 years for our HVAC needs & are on their annual program. They are always prompt and their work is good. We think Smoak's is the best!
