Thank You Smith & Rawlings for the GREAT job you did and for the Fantastic prices.
They have been working on my house and rental properties for years and there is no one else I would have do my HVAC and plumbing
Aj G.Unless you want a heart attack or stroke, make sure to ask for an estimate BEFORE they do the work!
I had a laundry utility sink suspended pump stop working after about 12 years. It cost at the time a little under $200 for the pump and about $150 for installation. I called S&R, whom I had used off and on over the past 20+ years, to replace the pump. The installer saw the pump I had, and said the pump they would be putting in would work much better and be more reliable and trouble-free. I asked him if there was a warranty, and he said he didn't know, but that it would most likely last for five or six years without problem. I told him well, that's great, but the old one lasted me about 12 years without issue until recently, so that didn't get me overly excited about the new one. Not once in the limited conversation did he mention that the new one would be considerably more expensive. And not until he had cut pipes and basically had it installed did I realize he was installing a very large floor standing pump, not a hanging pump. The new pump also required extensive new plumbing and venting (more labor cost). Again, no estimate offered before or during (or by the company when I initially called them). When he finished, I asked If I paid him, and he said no, you'll get a bill.
Boy, did I get a bill! $1068.55 (Oh, but that included a $48 discount!). I called Larry Crow the owner to basically complain about the lack of information (estimated cost, specific unit, labor required, etc) provided by his office nor by his plumber onsite. And the fact that I was never offered the option of replacing my hanging pump with a similar (and much less expensive) unit. He seemed totally oblivious to my concerns. He did not lower the bill. He didn't even seem to appreciate the wisdom of giving a customer an estimate or offering cost effective options. Knowing we had a hanging pump, he sent out a plumber with only one expensive option. And basically told me as the customer that I have to rely on his good judgement. In summary, he did nothing.
My recommendation: If he treats a 20+ year customer like me that way, I would be very leery of using Smith & Rawlings if I were you. There are a lot of plumbers in the Annapolis area. Pick another one. Oh, and whomever you pick, GET AN ESTIMATE!

Dave S.We had our second visit from Smith & Rawlings today.
The first visit was in 2011. They came out on a service call for low water pressure and identified the problem as clogged faucet strainers throughout the hose. A few minutes with some vinegar and an old toothbrush and we were all set.
Today our water just stopped. We found the receipt from Smith & Rawlings and called. Three hours after the first call a crew showed up. They listened when I explained the symptoms and what I had done (confirmed power (voltage) at the well head but no current (amperes)) and how. We started there and in about ten minutes had confirmed that the submersible well pump was well and truly dead. In two hours, including a run to a supply house for a new pump, we had water back in the house.
Bravo to Smith & Rawlings. You are our plumbers.
installed my new boiler wrong AND never called me to let me know the whole house filtration system they had sold me had been recalled for fire hazard. Not only unprofessional, but dangerous as well.
