Norris Skaggs and Stanley Walsh established Skaggs-Walsh in Astoria, Queens. Their expertise was in the installation of oil burners and boilers. In the 1950s, Fred Heaney consulted with Mr. Skaggs and Mr. Walsh to expand the business into fuel delivery. He subsequently purchased the company and later transferred control to his son, Peter Heaney. Peter managed the company and later relocated it to a larger facility in College Point, Queens. In 1994, Peter fell ill and transferred leadership to his daughter, Allison Heaney. She continues to lead the company today. Skaggs-Walsh is a full-service fuel oil provider, delivering heating oil and services to thousands of homes and businesses across Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality service. Our services are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
At 45, Allison lives on Long Island with her husband, two children, two dogs, and four cats. She is available to talk with any of her customers whenever they need. Recommended Customer Reviews
1 star because they do their job, but when you make a person feel low, unheard and belittled, you've lost everything else. They are attentive, fast and money hungry. I just became a customer in May 2022. For my first winter I didn't realize they would refill so often (every two weeks) with about $300-$500 worth of oil. Good thing is they just come. Unless you have any financial issue finding an extra $1000/month during the winter. I was curious about the payment options they offer but when you click the link on the site to enroll, nothing happens & no one calls. The first time my bill was behind, I received a call at 8:30a, 2 days after Christmas from a condescending woman telling me I needed to pay or they wouldn't refill my oil. When I asked about the payment plan button she said ""why didn't you call? That would've made more sense"" which showed no human compassion or remorse. She did not ask if I still needed help or offer any. It was cold, heartless, rude and condescending. So I told her I wouldn't speak to her, hung up & simply paid my bill in full. When I called back to complain to customer service, Donna barely wanted to hear me out. She, too, was just focused on the business and asking me about my bill (which was fully paid). I asked her to make a note on my account so the first woman wouldn't ever call me & others wouldn't be rude. Donna told me that rude ""is based on perception"". My perception is that these people don't care about people, just their business. In todays world, that doesn't work. I'm locked into a plan with them because I pre-paid but maybe this post will have them return my money so I can leave sooner. There are other options, but this account was handed down to me from the previous owner. I wish I did my own research.I refuse to do business with and support money-hungry, heartless businesses that have no problem harassing me first thing in the morning. My advice is call into customer service & see what kind of people work there first. Do your research. Maybe don't lock into a plan with them so you can leave when you want to. I'm definitely leaving as soon as I can.
Incompetent service staff. High prices and insane owner that broke contract and refused to fix problems related to new installation. If you want drama dealing with an insane owner this is the oil company for you. BUYER BE WARE. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND. STAY FAR AWAY.
AVOID TROUBLE.
Skaggs-Walsh is reliable and the service is excellent. Emergency repairs are handled quickly and efficiently.
Great service. Always on time and never left me without oil in the tank. Field service guys always nice and polite.
James F.Challenging times but good company, actually the only functioning one in town, we all gotta pull together in these challenging times. I just wish all the people involved knew the customers who are pulling for the, there are unscrupulous people out their, thir oil don't smell.
Tony Z.the last three years and I am assuming it provides free service when oil furnace breaks down. I have never made a single call ever since I bought the plan. Last month the furnace broken down and they sent someone to repair it and the feed back was it needs cleaning and it was done. Few days later, my tenants had manually turned it off because they heard some crazy loud noise and requested someone to check the boiler. Skagg sent someone to check and said no noise observed. Then, they charged me for 3 hours of services of $275 per hour total of $825. If you didn't observe noise what were you doing there for 3 hours. And isn't this supposed to be part of the protection plan? Also this is the first complaint my tenants make in 3 years, and especially furnace did break down few days ago. why would anyone turn off the furnace in Middle of winter if they didn't feel it was kinda of dangerous. I have 2 tenants that heard the noise and can testify.. my tenants aren't the ones that makes complaint every other day.. also if there was such charges for $900 for check furnace? And was not disclosed up front.. Skagg is literally 10 mins away from this house.. this is unacceptable
Ann S.Have a repair contract with them , our hot water had an issue , made a call 7 pm and a very nice young man showed up at 9 pm ,had a replacement Part on his truck and fixed it in no time .. impressed and super happy with the service we received !! Thank you very much ,
A few months ago my review for Skaggs Walsh would have been 5 stars for their oil service. They are quick and efficient if you have a service membership with them. I've been using their services for 2 years and I do not have one complaint on that aspect. My advice would be to stay away from their plumbing services.
Today, however, I had the most traumatizing experience with the owner on the phone after I made a payment that seriously blew me away. I think people forgot to interact with others after the pandemic.
Long story short, if you owe them make sure to pay it in full, do not ask questions and making smaller monthly payments during a pandemic does not matter at all. Seriously.
This person I spoke to specifically TRIED to come for my morals and use any way they could to make me feel less than a human. It was very surprising because this was the first time I ever spoke to them.
Overall, I like giving people the benefit of the doubt and I hope that the owner (which I chose not to name) was just having a crummy morning.
I also hope they realize that using terms such as ""who do you think you are?"" and ""you're that kind of person"" in a customer service voice does not make them sound professional and does not sound less offensive. I forgot to point that out in the call.
About twenty five years ago my furnace broke down. As a newly single, working mother I called Skaggs Walsh. When the person on the phone asked me questions, I became flustered ( to put it mildly) and hung up. Within minutes a woman named Allison called back, calmed me down, and sent a technician over in time for me to get to work. When I called back later to thank Allison I was told she was the owner of the company. So it is no surprise that this company continues to value its customers. From the phone crew, the people in billing, and the technicians, you will alway get honest, courteous, and professional work. Thank you Skaggs Walsh. As always, your recent appointment was greatly appreciated.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I was quoted $3600 for I installation of a New Oil Tank. Little expensive but I gave Sales Rep $1200 down Payment and given an Appointment for Installiation a Month later. Day before appointment I had to call to confirm. No one called Me to confirm . Service Guys were Great but there was some problem with new Tank connections so they said to call the Office when they were leaving. Im the Customer so why would I have to follow up? Next Day I called and no one at the Office was sure how to proceed? I was several times out on hold. I tried to contact the Sales Rep but His Voice Mail
was full and My Text to Him
wrnt Unanswered. Asked for Manager and was told He was unavailable but would contact Me which never happened. Had to wait a Further Week for Installiation. Called again to complain but it was passed on with more promises but no results. If I had to choose again I would NEVER have chosen Skaggs-Walsh. There all talk but no Action and Customer Service Sucks!!
