5 Unit apartment complex built in 1979. The heating is run through pumps connected to the water heater. I needed to replace the heater boards in one of the units, change the thermostats in all the units which required the valves to be replaced, pipes flushed, and water heaters refilled. After many calls to plumbing companies that would refer me to others with, ""We don't do that work."" I 'accidently' found ""SKAATES""...and what a find. They are THE BEST!!!

I don't know where to begin...from the top, Mr. George Skaates and his front office Jacqui, Pedro, and all the guys, Corey, Pete, et al...the service is personable in every way: Customer relations and on site work.

They are busy and told me that right up front; I had to wait to get on board, but so worth the wait. Once they started, they completed everything mentioned above...and more. The pipes are new, clean, and efficient; heating is running great in all units; the water is clear with great pressure, and they installed the new NEST Thermostats in each unit. All the tenants are ecstatic.

Pedro organized all the work - he comes to the site and checks out everything. Corey and Pete are the 'technicians' who do the plumbing / heating work. These two engineers are kick-ass workers. They arrive on time, work straight through, are diligent, and immaculate...they leave the area cleaner than when they started.

You don't find companies like this anymore...especially today when quality work is so hard to find. They are also extremely reasonable for the great work they do.

Skaates has an A+ rating in the BBB...exactly the right grade. They are the 'Valedictorian' of heating / plumbing companies.

Frank from Skaates came to my house in San Francisco and spent an hour figuring out a kitchen sink problem that had two different causes. Then he went onto his smart phone and found the part I needed, wrote it down for me, and told me the sink was still under warrantee. THEN he showed me how to fix the problem myself once the part arrived! I followed his instructions, and now my sink is good as new. Frank could have sold me that part and he could have charged me another visit to put it in, but instead he did the best thing for me, the customer. I will definitely make Skaates the first and only plumber I call from now on.

Skaates has done two jobs for us and both were expertly done. One job was to install a recirculation pump for a tankless water heater and the other was to reroute some pipes under the house. Courteous, knowledgeable, and efficient - highly recommended!

The cold weather shows up and I find that my radiant heat is not working! Thank you Skaates! You are the BEST. They had the problem diagnosed and repaired in no time and this was right before Thanksgiving. Fantastic customer service and friendly and extremely knowledgeable technicians who explained everything to me. This was after I had contacted another plumbing company who charged me for a service call, and told me I needed to replace more than I ended up needing. I had to call them twice and still was not contacted with an accurate estimate. I only wish I had contacted Skaates first. It would have saved me the cost of a service call and a week without heat.

My mother lives in San Francisco in a home with a radiator-heater almost 100 years old. When I called Skaates the customer service was great - the receptionist help provided information where I felt that I could trust this company. Well that didn't end there - their technician who came out to service the radiator heater was just as professional and informative. I especially liked the technician providing us with recommendations instead of trying to sell us their product and/service. Did I mention that the technician was also very prompt and courteous.
I would recommend Skaates to anyone who resides in a old home with an old radiator-heater.

I own a small apartment complex in Burlingame. I'm a young property owner and I often find myself in situations where I feel I'm getting ""ripped-off"" by laborers working on the building. NEVER THE CASE WITH SKAATES!

The first time I called them I was having a terrible day trying to get a few issues repaired at my building. One issue was a leaking toilet. I had reached my wits end when I called Skaates. I think my exact words were, ""Please help me. I'm having the worst day and I'm trying to find someone decent to work on a leaking toilet. I'm a young owner and I can't take getting ripped off any longer!!!"" The man who answered my call (owner?) was SO nice. He calmed me down, explained that this was a family owned and run business and asked me detailed questions about the problem. Wonderful!

His workers showed up within an hour. They were so friendly, funny, well-spoken, and intelligent about the problem. They knew how to fix it and how to fix it quickly!!! It was a Friday afternoon and they stayed past 5pm. So nice of them to do.

I've since used them several times. Each time they send out the same guy (wish I could remember his name!!!!!). He's super friendly and doesn't talk down to me. He explains the problems and always gives me a fair price.

I plan to use them for as long as I own this building. You just don't find this level of outstanding customer service anymore.

We've used Skaates Plumbing on a couple of jobs at our house, and there is no comparison between this company - the competency and professionalism of their plumbers - and other plumbing contractors we've used. After smelling natural gas on our street, PG&E went through our house and checked all appliances. Not only did they find a faulty hot water heater, but the gas fireplace had been installed in a defective way, leaking natural gas into our bedroom. We called a plumbing service in the Yellow Pages, and were appalled by the price they wanted to charge as well as the lack of competency in the worker who came. I called Skaates just on the off chance that they might be able to fix the water heater soon. They sent someone right over, and not only did they fix the water heater for a lot less than the Yellow Pages company, they also fixed the fireplace. The plumber, John, who was here worked until 7pm and was so professional and friendly trying to get everything done so that we could take a hot shower the next day. He also found and fixed the leaky connection that PG&E had suspected existed with the gas fireplace. From now on, I will ONLY use Skaates for any plumbing issues!!
