Company Overview

Sila Heating & Air Conditioning excels in maintaining and repairing HVAC systems, retrofit installations for historic properties, optimizing air quality indoors, and green geothermal options for environmentally aware clients.

Prior to establishing Sila, Jack began his career working alongside his father, Steve Rothacker at a company named Unique Indoor Comfort. Guided by his father, Jack created a top-notch team that expanded their operations into Philadelphia, evolving the family business into an exciting regional company. In 2010, Jack transitioned that venture into an independent entity and gave it the name Sila Heating & Air Conditioning.

Despite ongoing growth and remarkable achievements, Sila stays true to its family-oriented foundation, with Jack Rothacker actively contributing his knowledge and guidance as an important voice on Sila's Board of Directors and as a mentor.

Our approach is straightforward. We aim to deliver the highest quality of service by uplifting and rewarding our talented staff through a commitment to continuous improvement; and by ensuring superior outcomes for every client.

Established in 1989 by Jack Rothacker, a third-generation HVAC professional, Sila has transitioned from a family venture into a leading and respected HVAC company in the northeast, serving clients from Maryland to Massachusetts.

Jack's journey began working with his father, Steve Rothacker at Unique Indoor Comfort Services. In 1989, Jack decided to launch his own Unique Indoor Comfort in Philadelphia. Over the years, with his father as a mentor and advisor, Rothacker built an unparalleled team of leaders, engineers, installers, and customer service experts who, through trust, hard work, and focus, expanded the Philadelphia Unique Indoor Comfort into a thriving regional business.

Sila has let me down at every turn, from installation of a new cooling system to repair during warranty, now repair supposedly out of warranty. I'm too hot to give the details right now but I'm just so furious.

Very courteous and knowledgeable. On time for appointment with good communication. Felt like they did a detailed maintenance on my AC units. Seasonal pricing is good value.

Sila takes HVAC up a notch in professionalism. They are a well organized and well managed company-- this is not like dealing with your neighborhood plumber. I've had 2 major jobs performed by Sila-- Lennox AC installation and the overhaul of the control system on a large Weil Mclain boiler. Calls get through to a knowledgeable dispatch supervisor almost immediately.

The techs come to your home with business cards so you can contact them by cell or text or email. The tech that came to my home, Ivan Camacho deserves mention-- he was clearly experienced, analytic, and communicative. I work during the day so we texted information back and forth on a fairly complex problem. The experience was like dealing with other professionals that I interact with at work.

I gave Sila 4 stars, not 5, because I want this to be an honest and realistic review. Sila is bit expensive, but if you work during the day and need to deal with an HVAC team that functions at the highest level, then you need to consider Sila.

I agree with Matt, Raymond, and David as it's the same I experienced. They advertise $75 dollars off for first service of winter REPAIR, not servicing, for which they way overcharge. First you have to pay $149 for first 15 mins just to diagnose your problem, then charged me $300 to change a $6 part. Before they do that, they try to tell you your unit has a whole lot of other issues and to do all the work would be $1300! They think you're desperate because it's winter and you need heat, but guess what there's a lot of HVAC service out there with a lot less BS! I accidentally got to them by clicking on a link while googling another company I was referred to so that was a little shady. Wished I had double checked with Yelp, not to mention the reviews on my neighborhood app. Beware!

A loss leader to say the least. They advertised a $99 diagnostic fee which includes a ""free"" pound of refrigerant. The technician diagnosed that I need to replace a capacitor (cost under $20 to buy online and 15 minutes to install), Their price quoted was $408 plus the $99 diagnostic fee ($507). I offered them $408 total (very generous price) which includes the $99 diagnostic fee. The technician declined saying ""the price is the price"", but, I owe them the $99 fee regardless. I told him to give me a write-up of the diagnostic results and install the pound of freon even though I do NOT need it and I will pay the $99 fee. The technician verbally agreed and went back to his truck and just drove away without doing anything at all. Luckily, I never paid them. There are many rip off artists in this industry and these guys are definitely in that club.

Keep away....

I would be careful of this company. They told me I needed two new $13,000 air conditioning units. After I got a second opinion, I had them clean led for $400.

Rip off!! Big time. Serviced my HVAC unit and was told that I had a faulty voltage absorption unit. They charged me $199 to diagnose the problem and $378 for the actual unit + tax. Turns out that this voltage absorption unit is a capacitor which costs around $15-20 to buy on Amazon and typically 15 min or less to install. The fact that they call it a voltage absorption unit as opposed to a capacitor alone is extremely misleading. In addition, when I spoke to them initially, I was told that the $199 was diagnostic fee, but would also cover work done within the first 1/2hour. Overall works out to be about a 20 fold mark up on price of the capacitor. Crazy, wouldn't you think. Yet, after speaking directly with the company I was told this is what they charge. Seems like and extremely high mark up is an accepted practice for this company and likely extends to the other services/parts they provide. I would never use this company again.

Had issues with my electrician-installed Nest E. Called Nest directly and they suggested I call Sila. They were very professional and knew what to do. I had a complex oil heat system and very few people know how to connect a Nest to an oil heat system but Sila knew right away what to do. I'm using them for all my properties now. Ask for Mike as the technician.

SILA Heating & Air Conditioning I had install my Air Conditioning SPACEPAK & LENNOX and service it for many years. Now they claim they dont service my area only 15 minutes (Mahopac) from the county they are in (westchester). They billed me for maintenance contact few months ago and cashed my check. I called them to service it they said they dont service my area and will refund my money.

In the past they done well but this is an integrity issue. Lack of Trust!

Had a problem with a freezing drain pipe from my boiler. They were fantastic. Carlos was prompt, courteous, patient, efficient and had a pleasant manner. Although it was late and very cold, he came in the evening to diagnose the problem. Made a temporary solution and came back in a day to make the permanent solution.
