In March 2018 we hired Shumate to replace two very old furnace units in our house. In May 2018 we brought them back to replace two very old AC units. In both cases we were very impressed with the professionalism of the team of guys who showed up to do the work. They arrived on time, kept everything clean, and stayed until the work was completed. I cannot say enough good about our experience. These guys are the best! I also want to put in a word about the """"sales"""" guy, Shaun Hoover. Shaun is very knowledgeable and helped guide us through the options before providing a quote. In both cases Shumate stuck exactly to the quote even though I think they encountered some unexpected difficulties that caused extra effort.

Here is my Shumate experience; it was not good at all. Recently, my downstairs A/C outside unit quit working, I called Shumate and they sent a tech """"Peter"""" to diagnose the problem. He opened the case, poked around for about 5 minutes, then told me that the fan was beyond repair and had to be replaced. He then said that he would have it ordered and would follow up with me. I waited for two days - no word from Shumate - so I called their main office. Once the call-taker found my information they then said """"oh yeah that fan is obsolete and we'll have to install an entirely new unit"""", and that """"we can get a sales rep out there right now."""" Again, I set up another appointment for the sales rep (another day shot) to come out. """"Dennis"""" came out, looked at the unit and said he would work up a quote. He presented the quote on his tablet; the replacement cost was $4500.00 on the low end up to $6500.00 on the high end. I asked """"Dennis"""" to send me the quote via email (I had him enter and read back my email address to me so there was no confusion) and/or a hard copy; he said that he would do so. After a day of waiting, I had nothing sent to me. I called him and again requested a copy - he said he would send it - he again failed to do so. After waiting a reasonable amount of time, I called Shumate's main office to request a copy. The call-taker stated that he would call """"Dennis"""" and have him send the quote to the main office, and they would then forward it to me (I had the call-taker read my email address to me so there was again no confusion). After another day waiting, no quote was forthcoming. It gets even better... After all of the above, in frustration, I called another HVAC company (a local family owned business) to come look at my A/C unit. Their tech did a much more thorough inspection, found a wire loose and did a repair on the spot. My downstairs A/C is now working like new and I was only charged $65.00 for this repair! To summarize: Shumate misdiagnosed the problem, tried to do the """"high pressure"""" sales technique, failed to follow through on promises multiple times and made every effort they could to sell me thousands of dollars of equipment that was not even necessary. Based on this experience, I would never call Shumate again and would never recommend them to anyone.

I had Shumate come out for an electrical issue. They were prompt and friendly and did good work. I had a small issue and their customer service was outstanding and everything was resolved beyond my satisfaction. It's rare for a company to provide such great customer service theses days and I will definitely use them again!

Unfortunately, my maintenance plan expired without me realizing it. I purchased the 2 visit plan in October of 2016 during a scheduled service. In March 2017, I contacted them for a spring checkup and planned on doing it again in the fall. During the summer, I received many robocalls inquiring about service. Finally, I just started ignoring the repetitive calls. On July 27th, I received a contract renewal by email. I called them to let them know that I was not ready to renew because I hadn't had my second service visit yet. When fall arrived, life got in the way and I didn't call to get the service. Once I remembered, we were already starting the winter months and I just figured I would wait until spring for the next checkup (not realizing it was a 1-year contract instead of a 2 visit contract). I realized, at that point, that the calls had stopped but didn't think much of it. Today, I called to get a spring service and found out that the contract had expired. I was told that they did make contact to renew so they did their part, but asked if I wanted to renew the plan now. It's disappointing that I did not fulfill the service requests within the year, but once I told them I didn't want to renew (in July), they cut off all communication.

I called Shumate to come out and give an estimate on duct repair. The technician came out and within five minutes, which was barely enough time to get into our crawl space, told me we needed all new duct work installed. He did not have one spec of dirt on him from being in a literal, crawl space; not one, yet he stated we needed all new duct work. I called Shumate because I wanted a second opinion after having another company provide an estimate. The other company, which was Coolray, was here for over an hour and I could hear them in the crawl space moving about assessing the work. That technician gave a very specific quote and listed the repairs, and at no time was I told that we needed to have all of our duct work repaired. I followed up my concern about the technician to a supervisor at Shumate. I left a voicemail after the technician left, and I have received no response to my concern.

We are very happy with the service Shumate Mechanical provides. Our furnace was not keeping up with the extreme cold and Dennis came in and provided us with reasonable options to replace it. the technicians came in the next day and replaced the furnace on time and now we have heat again.

Spent big money on a new furnace and AC, and while the brands they sell are good, their installation is a joke. Salesman """"Dennis"""" told me I had to buy a new sump pump from them and couldn't use my 1-year-old one, but the installation guys just used my old one and charged me 80 bucks for a new one. I had marked the old one thinking they would do that, and they did... SHADY. Next, the installation guys made the easy-to-see front of the furnace look very professional, but the hard-to-get-too back literally had wholes in it, letting crawlspace dust into my house. Had to call them to fix it. Next, Dennis promised my 2-year-old """"whole house humidifier"""" would be re-installed on the new furnace in working order. It's not. Now that winter is here, my house is dry because the installation guys wired the humidifier similar to how a child makes macaroni art. Random wires are jammed together and other wires were cut and left hanging from the crawlspace ceiling... STILL LIVE WITH ELECTRICITY sitting on top of aluminum foil air ducts! Speaking of which, their installation used that cheap Home Depot flex duct that any HVAC blog will tell you, no professional would ever use, yet my crawlspace is littered with it. Sandy Shumate must be Irish because how this company hasn't been sued for incompetence is just pure luck. Their products are good, their prices are competitive, but you better know a lot about HVAC when they leave or you'll miss all the ways their installation guys have scammed you!

very happy with Shumate plumbing service. Had a hot water heater to go out, they came out the next day on time and replaced it. The technicians were courteous.

I used Shumate to install the Mini Split Cooling/Heating system for my 2nd floor Bonus Rm as per Dennis' recommendation & it works great. Out of 5 proposals from different companies, ONLY Shumate suggested the Mini Split. I appreciate Mike sending me Dennis for his expertly advice. Then, recently , I called Shumate again, when my air conditioner broke in d middle of the night. Kenneth came to our rescue. He drained the drain pan & unclogged the drain line. I'm happy to have the expertise & trustworthiness of Shumate personnel! Highly recommended! 5-star service!

Paid a premium for Saturday service and tech was rude in a hurry and spoke to my wife in a rough tone. I was at work and he refuse to get in the phone with me . Told me her it would be $145 an hour to really diagnose the problem took my $118 just to tell us what I already knew.
