Recommended Customer Reviews
Shumate has serviced our original HVAC systems ,which are 17 y/o, for the last 3 years and have given us excellent service. When we decided to be proactive in replacing them with high efficiency units, Shumate was the first one we called for a quote. Our salesman, Dennis, did not try to sell us anything that we did not need and suggested a system that would fill our needs without busting the budget. In addition, the 5 year, 0% interest payment plan was a clincher. The day of install was so smooth. Nain the foreman was awesome! He explained everything I needed to know. They worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves. After 4 hours you would never know that they had been here! We are looking forward to a more comfortable temperature level in the future. So far, just having the humidity control has made a huge difference even after one day. And the new equipment is so quiet! We are also looking forward to lower gas/electric bills in the near future. Thank you, Shumate, for your continued excellent service.
After receiving three competitive bids, one from a big box store, I chose Shumate. Although they had done the original install 16 years ago in the house under new construction, that was not a factor as they had not been the primary service company over the years. What swayed me was their customer service focus as they picked the right product set to address our needs. The others were either way overkill or bare minimum to get the business. I would like to note that because they had done the work previously, they had anticipated running extra lines and tubes from the attic in case of contingency. Great job 16 years ago too! The guys arrived exactly on time, laid down protectors for the floor and then staged their equipment. I was replacing both an upstairs and downstairs unit, and never felt compelled to have to watch where they were going. You can trust these guys. Their quote was """"we are going to do right for you"""". The installation was incredible. It's hard to describe, but you can tell great craftsmanship when it looks simple and neat. They greatly simplified the intakes and out-takes to the inside units, improved reliability with switches and pans, improved the insulation of lines, and made a really neat install of the outside units with new pads. Wow! Here is the best part. For the components they replaced, they were also the least expensive and fastest to get the work done. Great crew led by a great organization.
J W.I got several quotes to replace the condenser and coil on two hvac units at my home. Shumate was 30-50% less expensive than every one of the other quotes. I almost didn't believe the quote was correct, but it was. The techs came out to replace the units and did a great job. They went above and beyond because they also had to add another breaker box. The techs were really nice and explained everything to me, and the installation itself was better than before, because they improved some things that had been shortcutted by the original builders. And the best part, they didn't even try to get more money out of me. Their job was to put two units in, and they did everything necessary, even what they hadn't planned for, without complaint. I can't recommend this company enough. Great job guys!
$69 Service call charge $223 Leak Check $450 Refrigerant Charge $742 Total """"OK sir now that we know what is wrong with it.that will be $651"""" more to repair it. That is more than 30% of the total cost of the system. If that where a car repair it would cost on average $9000 dollars for repairs. Something is seriously wrong with this pricing scheme. No never again. Get all the prices up front over the phone and don't bother calling Shumate.
I had a high-level Shumate technician out to the house so that he could prepare a bid to install a new HVAC unit. I told him I would need a quote in 3-5 days. After two emails that I sent (that we're never acknowledged), it has been two weeks, an still no quote. Thankfully, one of the other companies that I had out knows how to follow through. Shumate is all talk and no action. I am glad I found this out before I trusted them any further. Avoid this company.
I wish there was a way to give 0 stars. My heating system broke on 11/25 for good (a 20 year old system with multiple fixes not working). So I had someone from Shumate come out on 11/26, the next day, to give me an estimate on a new system. After inspecting the current system, the """"comfort consultant"""" (title on their card) said they would get back to me soon. It is now 12/17 and I have yet to receive an estimate from Shumate. I actually laughed out loud when I saw posted at the top of their website - """"When it's too cold to wait, call Shumate."""" I guess they don't consider 3 weeks with no response in freezing temperatures with no heat as """"waiting.""""
We recently had a new central air/heater installed. Right away, I was sure I was smelling gas, but I gave it a few days just in case it was a new system settling. After a couple of days, we called for a technician to come out. He checked outside, because I said we smelled it outside and in our bathroom (which is above the pipes outside). He checked inside. He said he didn't smell gas at all, and that there were tiny leaks in our old galvanized steel pipes. Since we had never smelled gas before, I knew the tiny leak theory didn't make much sense. He said it was a new heater smell that would go away in a couple of days. I waited a couple more days, and finally called Gas South. Gas South had to replace the outside cap (I can't remember what it's called exactly.) The Gas South technician said that when the Shumate technician turned the gas back on it was turned on too quickly and it popped. So we had been leaking gas for almost 2 weeks, with a toddler in the house sleeping in one of the rooms right next to the outside pipes. The Gas South technician smelled gas right away and couldn't believe that a trained professional would miss something so basic. To say that I'm annoyed in an understatement. The service technician that came out, Tito or Tino, brushed me off as being a crazy woman. The gas smell was """"all in my head."""" I called Shumate to report the incident of the leaking gas and the man on the phone asked """"What do you want me to do it?"""" He didn't apologize and didn't seem to care. He seemed relieved that it was on Gas South's """"end"""" and Gas South had to deal with it. If you do decide to use them, please ask them NOT to send Tino or Tito your way.
A little over two weeks ago, I experienced problems with my air conditioner. A technician came as promised the day after my call. He was professional and explained the issue with an AC unit not quite 3 years old. A part was ordered and installed the next day. My complaint with Shumate is no one has returned a phone message I left with the customer service manager explaining why I would have to pay for two service calls and why I am having issues with a unit that replaced a unit that was around thirty years old. Due to allergy issues, I do appreciate the promptness in how the repairs were completed but when competing for business in today's environment and the only difference a company has is customer service satisfaction, all calls should be returned and have a response time limit. I am still waiting for a phone call.
I have had a service contract with Shumate for more than 10 years and have been very pleased with their service It's nice not having to worry about whether I've changed the filters, and crawling under the house to change them was never my favorite activity.
S B.Quick service with no bs. They gave us options to complete the repair. They are super friendly, clean, and arrived on time.
