Initially I had an overflowing toilet in the powder room which was gushing out water which was going downstairs through the ceiling below. I called out Sherman Mechanical to diagnosis and repair. It turned out that it was a much bigger problem than I thought. The Septic Line pipes outside were broken in two spots. With the use of a special camera they were able to show me pictures of the broken pipes. I was quoted a fair price by Kevin Christensen
so they completed the repairs on a timely basis. They were extremely good and careful in making sure that the damage during the excavation which included removing cement and digging up a very large part of the yard in that area was as minimal as possible. So I was very pleased and paid the billing. But that is not the best of what Sherman did for me. Just recently in reviewing my insurance policy I realized that I had coverage in my policy for any Septic Field repairs. I was not aware of that at the time the job was completed. So I called my insurance co. and asked if I could still make a claim. Fortunately I could open up a claim but I needed documentation and pictures etc. So one and a half years after the job was completed
I reached out to Mr Kevin Christensen at Sherman Mechanical to ask him if he had any records and photos of the previous job. He had all of the records, payment receipts, and photos which gave me exactly the documentation that I needed. The insurance co. made payment on the claim today. Thank You Kevin.
I had a leak coming from the ceiling on my older home in Inverness I had just purchased. Panicked, I called a different but well known company out and they proceeded to cut hole after hole ( seven in all) to determine where the leak was coming from. The two men (one was the owners son) were at my home about two hours. Finally at the end I was told the upstairs vanity and downstairs office cabinetry would all have to be removed and then they could possibly replace ""the main pipe"" They would not explain exactly what pipe that was. The price was going to be at least 3500 and upwards as he put it. I called my family who have lived in the area for years and they suggested Sherman Mechanicals. I had John out and he looked in the first hole made and new exactly what was wrong within minutes. He came back with the part to repair the damaged section and the bill was around 300 dollars. I have had him back twice since and he is always very professional -always smiling ( rare these days) and in and out. I always let the billing department ( also so helpful and accommodating) know how great John is and they say we know we hear this all the time!
Randy H.After, trying to work things out for 3 months, I filed my complaint with the Illinois Attorney General. I was right about my concerns. Lisa Madigan's office said you should never have to pay to get a quote. I had to wait 46 days to understand their pricing. They should give you a quote up front!
Based on what I paid for mainline rodding, Sherman charges $375 for the first hour and $160 for each additional hour and you will pay for them to sit in the car and write your bill as their hours are time on-site and not time in your house. The first hour includes a non refundable service fee, and a $120 equipment rental.
All in all my rodding from Sherman mechanical was 3.8 x more than what I paid the last time too bad that guy is retired. I'd say the job was less than average, as they kept trying to up-sell me on things I didn't need. I like it when guys come in do the job and leave.
Going through my records 22 years approx 8 roddings I got charged a rental fee twice one guy had to get a 60' cable ($50) to rod all the way to the street (Sherman didn't go that far) and one guy charged me a $35 rental fee for under warranty service a year later. The most I've ever paid for rodding was 38% of what Sherman charges.
Oh and one more thing after I got their pricing information, their bill was wrong they didn't do the math right and over charged me another $76.47. (2.2 x 160) + 95 + 120 = 567 and I was billed $643.47.
BTW - my service guy had the same name and initial as one of the other 5 star reviews here, hope their not related.
At 4 am, the weather outside stood at -11°. I awoke to an uncomfortable sensation of freezing my butt off. The inside temp had dropped to 53°. I kicked into urgent action mode, flipping the furnace's on/off switch but seeing no sign of the warming natural gas flame. I called Sherman Mechanical, and within 2 hours Jason arrived. He diagnosed the issue, ordered the part and even got the furnace running at least temporarily. By 9 am, Jason's colleague Mike had replaced the control panel, and our home was transforming from frosty back to toasty. The just over $600 flat fee felt quite reasonable given our emergency situation. The two technicians couldn't have been more courteous or professional. It's a comfort to have Sherman's phone number now pasted onto my furnace.
Peri K.I had Sherman come to my condo & do my spring check up. Also put in a new thermostat a few months ago. Turns out. The thermostat was used & is now broken. I had to call someone else who was nice enough not to over charge me to come fix their mess!! Will never use them again!
Always prompt service! Very good prices and top quality work. I have used them for my home and business needs. I would highly recommend them.
Earlier this year, I called Sherman Mechanical on a Friday night due to a furnace outage and sub zero weather approaching. I was charged a $229 service call fee and $550 for a part that wholesales for approximately $99.
I have no problem with a company making a profit, however....
Judge for for yourself.
Back in May we need our AC unit replaced in our house. Two years earlier we had replaced the furnace so we only needed a A/C unit. We got two other estimates but the Sherman's price was a little better than the others and given they were in town (Cary) we went with them. Now that it is September and the unit has run all summer I can say that they did a great job. It was a one day job that went well. I know it took longer than they expected but they stayed with the original estimate and even add a cold air return at no charge. The outside unit they recommended was also much quieter than our old one and because it is close to our deck made the use of our deck much more pleasant.
