Stephen D.My mother recently lost my Dad and there were several issues that needed to be taken care of around the house. I live out of state and was unable to help her. She needed several plumbing problems addressed and was in need of a new furnace.
They were understanding, prompt, and gave several different choices that were easy to understand. Not the most inexpensive, but, in my experience, you get what you pay for. I would definitely recommend them and I will only trust them to help my mother with everything.
I have tried to work with these folks for a few years now but I've finally given up. I've had issues in the past with them not getting my light switches properly wired and still need to call another electrician to get that fixed even after being charged for it. Today was the last straw though. I was supposed to be getting a new garbage disposal. Their representative gave me 3 options, $800+ for a 1hp, $600+ for a 3/4hp and $400+ for the 1/2hp based on my 'preferred customer' discount (which I pay over $100/year to get from them). I told him that I couldn't afford $600+ for a garbage disposal so I would have to go with the $400+ one. He then started arguing with me so I told him point blank that I wasn't going to spend $800+ on a $#%&@! garbage disposal no matter what he said. He then told me that if I was going to use a swear word and if I make it sound like he's ripping me off that he would just leave. I told him I thought that was a good idea. He then told me that it would cost me $49 if I wanted him to leave the house so I went to get the checkbook, telling my wife that I needed $49 to get this $&^#&! out of my house. He then left, said I wouldn't be charged and to make sure that when the company makes their ""happy call"" to see how he did that I make sure to let them know I used a swear word.
After he left the house, I checked online to see how much the models of Insinkerators were that he was trying to sell me. The $400+ model is under $100 retail, the $600+ model was under $200 and the $800+ model was under $300. This meant that as you went up in model, you also went up about $100 in installation fee even though the job is the same. I finally figured out how bad I had been being scammed for the last few years and paying for the privilege through their 'gold' membership program (or some such non-sense title).
I'm going to Home Depot today to get my 1hp, $300 disposal and they said they have a guy there that will install it for $125. So, in the end, I get the $800+ garbage disposal that the Service Professor was going to install for $425. That's why we, after several years of giving them money, will no longer do business with the Service Professor.
The service and work by the Service Professor were very good. However, the price is outrageous. I won't have them do work for us again. They simply charge way to much for the work we had done. Good job with the work (though the tasks were not very difficult either) but the customer pays for the cost in the end.
I had nothing but trouble with this company. I needed a simple electric service performed. I called them and an appointment was made for 2pm. At 5pm the dispatcher called to inform me they wouldn't be able to make it due to overbooking. Well, ummm, duh. I noticed that 3 hours ago when no one showed and no one called. But, I'm a reasonable guy and gave them the benefit of the doubt and rescheduled. The dispatcher was friendly and very apologetic, and stated since they messed up and missed the appointment, I could name any new date and time and was promised they would be there. I made another appointment for a few days out. It was like deja vu. Appointment was for 2pm, and 5pm I received a call from the dispatcher stating they wouldn't be able to make it out.
I asked to speak with a supervisor and was transferred to him. He explained to me that many afternoon appointments are missed due to overbooking and the jobs in the afternoon taking longer than expected, therefore missing the late afternoon appointments. I told him that I understood, but after a second time of not showing it was not acceptable. He didn't seem to think it was any problem. He just kept reiterating that it was common practice that late afternoon appointments were missed. It was my fault for not booking an early morning appointment. Why even make these appointments available if you can't make them? He tried getting me to set another appointment, but after already taking two half days off of work with nothing happening, I think not!
I called Van Singel electric in Jenison, a technician was out the next day and fixed my issue easily. They even offered a less expensive alternative! I will now be a lifelong customer of Van Singel and will shy anyone away from The Service Professor.
They are very nice people. However they missed my appointment today. Also in the past I have been given different quotes by the same person in their company when I had them inspect and replace a gas. The first was when I called them for an inspection of it, the second was when I had them do their heating and cooling inspection, the second quote for the same job was half again as much. Also when their plumbing inspection was done, the price seemed high for the repairs they recommended so afterwords I had another quote given to me and indeed their prices were higher. Their membership is simply not worth it because they overcharge for their work. You are better off going with an independent service professional.
Kevin T.Might be a good company but just to get a quote be ready for a 60$ charge. Way over priced quoted me at 5000$ for a new electrical panle, the next quote I got was only 1200$ and that other company was free for a quote.
i called the service professor to fix a leak coming from my toilet. they came the next
day and could not find the cause of the leak. they then tried to sell me a service
contract which i was not interested in. i was charged $200 for the service visit
instead of the normal $50 fee. i later found the cause of the leak which was a loose
bolt on the toilet tank and fixed it myself. i would not recommend their service.
anthony n.Yesterday Our AC went out and they came out the next day. They said I needed 3 parts to repair the AC and it would cost $795! Although I paid $60 for service visit I wanted to get another quote because the price sounded too high. I called Royal Comfort and he informed me that only one part needed to be replaced which was the Run Capacitor. He had a brand new one in his truck which he gave me and said contacts points part was fine and the hard start kit was not necessary because the compressor started no problem. Total cost was $75. It pays to shop around. Also the SP guy left his black rubber glove on the ground and some other rubber thingy.
Debra W.Calling a electrician or a plumber always makes me nervous. You never know who to trust. I found The Service Professor on craigslist. I could tell by the courteous service on the phone that I had chosen the right place, They sent Dave Smith out today and he clearly stated the estimate and posed the course of action if there were any issues beyond what was obvious. He fixed my electrical problem in record time, it was apparent he has experience and is very professional. I am very pleased with the service and will be using and recommending The Service Professor. Ask for David Smith, you won't be disappointed! Great Job!
Charles K.I've used two plumbers since then and had alot better luck. Seeing how much I was overcharged makes me even more mad as I had a custom bath installed for same price including teardown. Used a local guy H20 Plumbing that did a free estimate and Bath Fitters and both charge significantly less, Godwin Plumbing which is local is someone I'd recommend as well.
