Nothing but professional service! We called them because our toilet was overflowing all day from our bathroom upstairs, and we needed them right away. They came out within 35 minutes, with a team of pros that helped us through the whole process. Very courteous, respectful and professional.
BUYER BEWARE!! We were victims of the devastating floods that hit Westchester in late July--over 6 feet of water and sewage in our finished basement--destroyed everything. Desperately needed flood cleanup and mold remediation. Most local companies were overwhelmed and had waiting list. ServiceMaster Clean Hillside came out and gave us an estimate of $4,000, but wouldn't put it in writing. (First red flag). Insurance company said okay. Set up appointment for cleaning.
On the scheduled day, one lone salesman shows up. We ask where the cleaning crew is, and he says ""they'll be here shortly."" He walks into the basement, glances around quickly, and says ""we under-quoted you. I need $7,000 to start, maybe more."" We say ""WTF??!!""
It was quite obvious that he thought we were desperate (we were) and stupid (we're not.) He knew we had flood insurance, and most likely figured we'd pay whatever figure he named. Funny thing, since their initial estimate, hubby had done a lot of the cleanup himself, so we were hoping the price would be even lower.
Needless to say, after a long and heated discussion, we booted him out the door. New company stopped by this morning and quoted us $4000 to do a much more detailed and extensive job than ServiceMaster originally quoted. New company says what SM had proposed to do would not have removed all the mold. New company will do cleaup later this week. If they are as good as they sound, there will be a positive Yelp for them later.
In the meantime, beware of ServiceMaster (at least this franchise--others might be fine). Their bait-and-switch tactic and over-charging of flood victims should earn them a special place in contractor's hell....
