Kevin Comerford and his family have been meeting the heating and air conditioning needs of Northern California homeowners since 1972. Kevin graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo in 1994. After graduation, he returned to work in his family's air conditioning and heating business. His parents sold the business to a $5 billion corporation in Dallas, TX, after 25 years of ownership. After six years with that company, Kevin opted to leave the corporate sector and start a family-run, customer-focused business like his parents did in 1972. Thus, he founded Service Champions in 2002. Guided by these values, Kevin's company has grown to include more than 200 team members and has been in operation for 18 years. Today, Service Champions caters to homeowners in the San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay), South Bay, and the Sacramento area.

Kevin makes his home in Pleasanton, CA, alongside his wife and three children.

Update: I sent the company a private message through yelp just like they asked in their response. I left my name, my address, and my number. It's been almost a week and I never did hear anything back from them. I thought I'd give them a chance and see what they had to say. But I'm worried it was just a show here in yelp for others to see.

Original review:
I'm sorry to give these guys a low rating but they were way off on diagnosing my problem but also wanted to charge me a ton to replace items that weren't broken! The guy that came out was super nice and took time a day later to talk with me on the phone since I couldn't be there when we came to our home. But nothing what he told me added up. We suspected issues with our 2 zone system so had these guys come out to do their advertised tune up as well as see if there was something going on with why the downstairs wasn't heating so well. The result they said, was that our zone circuit board was bad, and maybe the dampers but he couldn't tell for sure until the circuit board was replaced. He wanted $1000 bucks just to replace that. I know this is how they make their living but that circuit board was showing $160 if I ordered it online. $1000 is a markup that I can't understand. And, he said that still might not guarantee a fix to my problem. He did however suggest I join their monthly fee program and they'd give me a 20% discount! To me it all just came across as a huge scheme to get me to pay a ton for what I didn't need. I ended up pulling out my old multimeter and tested the circuit board and found no fault to it. Signals were being sent as expected to the dampers etc. Also the damper motors appeared to be turning correctly when getting power. In doing all this double checking after receiving an insane quote, I did find that there is an issue with the dampers themselves getting stuck. In my tinkering I got the one that was not closing so well to function again but I'll admit it was more by accident. We'll see how long that lasts. I know if I have more issues however I won't be calling this company. Someone doing this for a living should've been able to figure out what I did during their visit. It took me a few days to figure out what was going on and I knew nothing about heating systems until I was motivated with a $1000 bill that just didn't make sense.

Mason Lontz & Rueben were awesome !! They arrived well within the scheduled time, and were a pleasure to speak with. They thoroughly inspected my heater, air conditioner, and water heater. Mason's attention to detail caught a water heater that was about to fail. They have earned my business and they will be replacing by water heater and doing some attic insulation. There was no sales pressure, just solid information to make an informed decision. By the way, both have served our country. Thank you Service Champions for hiring veterans.

A few days ago Brandon Copeland with Service Champions of Rocklin, Ca. came out and did a service on our Heating system. He was extremely professional, articulate and helped us to understand how everything was working. We could not be happier with the service, and are very pleased that we have now found a company we can count on for all our heating and air conditioning needs and upkeep. We look forward to the spring tune up :) Thanks Brandon for your service on many levels. I am single woman and English is my second language. Not knowing any better i called only ONE company and told them I needed to replace my old HVAC system.

They gave me an initial total cost of $15,299. This is for a 2.5-ton unit with a supposed SEER rating of 16. When I questioned the high cost, they lowered it. They eventually billed me $13,650 for this new HVAC system. This total included cost to relocate the outside compressor unit from one side of the home to the other side. My small home is approximately 1,090 sq.ft., so relocating this compressor should not be a major cost factor. They also told me that this is a ""very HIGH efficiency system"" thus the very HIGH cost and that this system will qualify for a rebate for local utility company.

They told me they will send the necessary documents so that I will qualify for the rebate. I have called numerous times, continually they refuse to send me the required documents to substantiate their claim that this is in fact a 16 SEER unit that will qualify for a rebate.

For the cost comparison, a friend who had a 3-ton unit vs my 2.5-unit, SEER rating of 14.5 vs my 16 SEER, installed in his home (1,500 sq.ft. vs my 1,090 sq.ft.) for a total of $7,700. Even taking into consideration that the outside compressor unit was relocated from one side of the very small house to the other side will not in any way account for this ""obscene"" cost difference of $5,931.

I have submitted complaints to State Contractors License Bureau and the Better Business Bureau.

Jonathon C. came to our house for routine maintenance. Jonathon was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He is honest and trustworthy and made some recommendations without trying to ""make a quick sale"". His is very helpful and desires to meet the customers needs and satisfy the customer. He did just that. Exceptional service and highly recommended. I will ask specifically for him next time.

Service Champion corrected the problem. They were responsive to my complaint and made things right.
We all make mistakes . . . Few are willing to correct them as Service Champions did.
I'm changing my rating.

What a rip off. I had two AC units. The tech pulls the part out of one of my units to repair the other. We agreed on $350 and guy charged me $409. When you call to complain the office person states I have to talk to the service tech because they ""have no record of the bills"". Really??? When I called the tech his VM was full. When he did call back he left a message and never answered my question. Use another company. Now all the charges are in dispute by me which takes time and I couldnt get a Friday appt until Tues, it was 108 degrees out, unless I joined their maintence program for $172. I cant stand this company and I know good business.

We recently moved to Roseville from SF area and, knowing it can get very hot in Roseville, bought a home with very good air conditioning system that passed home inspection with flying colors. We hit our first 105+ degree week - yikes! The AC never could get the house temp down 10 degrees even and ran constantly. We called Service Champions and they came the very next day. Nathan was amazing - absolutely amazing! Extremely knowledgeable professional, friendly, articulate - and really cared. He checked and tested everything and all checked out OK. Except the thermostat, which was a basic, inexpensive thermostat. He suggested we get a Nest or Ecobee which, because my husband is an engineer and very handy, was very easy to install and we could get and install ourselves. We got the Nest, which was indeed very easy to install. And that has totally solved the problem.

Because of our experience with Nathan, and that he has been with Service Champions a number of years, is very happy and it was obvious that he thinks very highly of the company so would likely be there many more - and that we can ask for Nathan when we have our twice yearly inspections and if/when we need service - we decided right then to get the protection plan.

Outstanding company and Nathan is totally fabulous!

Our second floor A/C fan broke down last week, right before a major heat wave hit our area. I called Service Champions and the tech initially told me that all that was needed was a new motor and some coolant for the 19 year old unit. After more tests, I was told that there was a leak in the coolant line and because the system used the older, more expensive coolant, the cost would be about $4,000. In his professional opinion, it would be better to get a new system, which would involve a new fan, furnace, and thermostat. A salesman came out and I explained we are financially tight now and need to keep the cost modest. The salesman then went over everything and told me the cost would be $17,500. If we got a service plan, the cost would be $16,500. I was completely shocked at the cost!

I decided to get a second opinion and called another company. The owner came out right away and told me that all that was needed was a new motor and a small amount of coolant. I was told that the amount of coolant needed was normal for a 19 year old unit and that there was no leak. I was told that what I had been told by Service Champions were a bunch of lies and that they frequently heard this kind of complaint about Service Champions. I was told that Service Champions are a big company and have a large overhead and push dishonest and overpriced sales. The repair was made in about an hour and the tech did a fantastic job. The fan and air conditioning are now working great and I was told that it should be fine for at least several years. Total cost was $840! I asked about the cost of an entire new system and was told that a system better than the one that was going to be sold us by Service Champions would cost no more than $10,000. How do you sell someone that has stated that they are financially tight a system that will cost at least $16,500?! This company is clearly taking advantage of people and ripping them off. I have seen this kind of posting repeatedly for Service Champions and I can only say that please take your business elsewhere or risk getting ripped off!!
