DO NOT HIRE THIS CONTRACTOR - THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF - On Friday Night our blower in the furnace stopped working which meant the AC would not work. We called Scott Hale on Saturday morning and they needed a $129 diagnostic fee to come over and trouble shoot. The tech took about ten minutes and said we would probably need a motor module that he said would cost $ 1600.00 to replace and if that did not work we would need a control board that would cost an additional $ 1100.00 to replace. He then said we should just replace our furnace because of the high cost of these parts and because our furnace was 13 years old. We have a Trane furnace. I looked up the cost of these parts and was able to go to salt lake and buy the motor module for $ 335.00 and the control board for $255. I had a friend who had a friend who does HVAV come over and put the blower module in which took him about 20 minutes and the AC was working. These guys are flakes and prey upon people who need to get their AC or Heat working and put people over a barrel.

Scott Hale is truly as good as it gets! We have used them for years, to replace our boiler, water heater, fix leaks, sinks etc. We recently arrived at home to find a radiant heat pipe in our basement ceiling had burst, water everywhere. I called SHPHA and they had Mike at our house within an hour. Mike was able to locate the problem, isolate the area and keep the rest of the water on in our house until he could come back and repair the pipe. Very professional and nice, Mike and Scott Hale are great!

Bryson was the technician I worked with today. He informed me that the motor in my furnace needed to be replaced. He was on his way to Salt Lake to get the needed motor when I found out my home warranty would cover the service. He was very understanding and came back and gave me some great advice and even got my furnace running temporarily. I highly recommend Bryson and this is the second time I've had a good experience dealing with Scott Hale plumbing, heating, and air.

Scott Hale charges very high fees once they arrive on site. To scope a drain line is $200 which is competitive with local prices. However, got charged an additional $250 fee to simply remove the toilet to reach the drain line. They didn't disclose any additional fees nor is it available to find on their website.

Since we bought our new home in SLC, we have had a few plumbing thing needing done. A close friend recommended Scott Hale Plumbing and so when we needed new toilets, water heater, water conditioning, Air Conditioner, etc. They were here fast easy and at a very fair price... Highly Recommended!

So, this review has been a long time in coming. I've been using Scott Hale Plumbing Heating & Air for probably about 7sh years approximately. I've bought an AC unit and a heater from them. I have been part of their Service Partner Plan for probably about 5ish years. So this review will encompass my experience as a whole with this company, highlighting the things that have stuck with me the most.

The good:

The service technicians are always phenomenal. I cannot think of a time where any of the service technicians have been disrespectful or incompetent. I think they're all trained very well, and when they come upon an issue they're unsure of or they're stumped on a problem they will call another more experienced technician for assistance. The technicians wear little booties over their boots when they come in the house to make sure they don't track anything inside, which I like a lot. These technicians are always personable and very friendly. They are why I have stayed with Scott Hale. The actual service from the tech staff is fantastic. If it were just about the techs, they would get 5 stars easy.

The bad:

I cannot stress enough how displeased and unsatisfied I have been over the years with their office staff. The only good thing I have to say about them is that they are friendly when you call to make your appointment. I am going to put a few examples of my major complaints below:

1. I had a major fire behind my home a few years ago. I needed them to come look at my AC unit and it needed to be done before the insurance adjuster (who was coming up from St. George) came to do a damage assessment. I was okay with scheduling it out a couple of days, and I paired that inspection with a water heater flush. The day of, I get a call stating that because it looked like rain, they couldn't look at the AC. I stressed that I had to get it looked at that day because the insurance adjuster was coming that afternoon, but they seemed unconcerned. It was only when the technician came to do the water heater flush that I was able to get it taken care of because he recognized that it was an actual emergency situation.

2. Many times when I make an appointment, I will schedule more than one thing to be done because I am a very busy person and need to make the most of my time. Several times the technician have only been told part of what needs to be done, and I've had to make additional appointments to get everything done.

3. I used to work a job where I would not be home until 2:30-3:00 in the afternoon, so I would make my appointment in the 3-5pm window. Inevitably, I would get a call around 1-1:30ish telling me that the technician was coming. I would mention to the girl on the phone that I had chosen the 3-5 slot specifically because I wouldn't be home, and I would get the response of, well we just send them when they're ready. At one point, I mentioned that maybe they should put it in my file that I wouldn't be available until 3. I was then told that they didn't have the ability to do that--I later learned what they told me was untrue.

4. Most recently, I made a couple appointments on different days to have some work done. I was offered morning or afternoon. I told them that morning worked best for me and I specifically asked what the time window was. I was told 9-noon. When no one showed up by 11:40, I called and was then told that they no longer do it by window periods but that they just put you on the list and then they'll show up sometime that day. I was later told by someone else that they do have the ability to put in a specific time frame if necessary.

I have NEVER had a company show such BLATANT DISREGARD FOR MY TIME as the office staff at this business has shown me, but I have continued to use the company because the technicians were great. I have complained several times to the techs about my experiences with the office staff, but nothing ever came of it.

When #4 happened, I was so appalled by the person on the phone that I told her to cancel my plan. I did speak with Kathy, one of their management staff, who did try to make the situation right, but after having dealt with so much frustration on the office side, there really wasn't anything she could do because it wasn't just about that one experience. It was the culmination of poor experiences through the years. I've stuck with this company through all those negative experiences. My previous complaints seemed to have fallen on deaf ears because nothing changed.

I'm going to need a new water heater soon, and I absolutely cannot allow myself to buy one from this company. Not because I don't think they'll do a good job installing it, I know that 100% the actual service will be great, but because I don't want to have to deal with the negative feelings I now associate with their company.

If you value your time at all, I do not recommend this company; which is sad because the actual work is good.

My furnace went down, so I called Scott Hale to fix it. They came out and said that it would cost 1300 to fix furnace that pretty much motors, main board and switch was bad and it was better to just replace the furnace. They did not want me to go through my home warrantee and kept telling me it was better for my just to replace at 5 to 7000. They kept texting me that it was a bad idea to go through home warrantee and that my furnace was bad and that I was making a mistake. I went through my home warrantee and it was only a clogged port hole nothing else was wrong with my furnace. I felt the whole time that they were just pushing a new furnace down my throat. Also the cost for all the parts that they quoted for 1300.00 should have only been 300.00. I would never recommend them to anyone. I will never call again.

We had the pleasure of working with Bryson who was able to make it almost two hours before our quoted time (we were freezing so it was very much appreciated)! He was able to fix our furnace, make recommendations to avoid the problem in the future, and even helped us with a very affordable membership to have it continuously checked out and serviced. They came highly recommended from a family member and we couldn't have been happier with Bryson! Thanks for the great communication, clear options, and explanation of what happened. We look forward to working with you on all our household appliances in the future!

The installation of my on-demand water heater was excellent. What was sub-zero was the financing arrangement with a sleazy financing company, Service Finance Company, that ended up charging me 25% interest on a deferred-interest financing arrangement. Ended up paying a third of the price of the heater at the end of the 18-month financing. Yes, bad on me for not realizing, but bad on Hale for pushing it, too.
