Not impressed... Took a day off of work since they were not able to come on the weekend and waited half the day. They never arrived! After calling I was told that I was accidentally never put on the calendar. They were polite on the phone but I will never use their service again. How can I trust them to do a good job if they can't even show up for their appointments?
We had some leaks in furnace lines in our house. Hale HVAC came over and said that the entire house needs to be re piped instead of fixing each leak, and also suggested abandoning two old heaters and installing a new furnace with ductwork. The employees were nice and professional, but their recommendation seemed so absurd and absurdly expensive we decided to get TWO separate opinions. Hale's costs ranged from $4,000 (without tuning up heaters) to $14,000. They were ready to pressure us to commit on the spot. Both of the second opinions recommended fixing each leak, tuning up the heaters, and then analyzing the system for any other problems for between $500 and $1,000, and neither of them had ever heard of having to re-pipe the gas in a house. I'm sure Hale does sound work, but you're paying 10 times more than you would with a smaller operation to get the exact same functionality. I've heard from other HVAC employees that they charge about $300/hr for per person for labor. They are ridiculously expensive and present only the largest solutions. GET A SECOND OPINION!
Kristina M.We bought a Groupon for a Furnace Tune-Up. The guy came the same day (which seemed great!) but he was there for about 3 minutes and said that we didn't need a tune-up, but a completely new furnace. So we called another place for a second opinion, he came out, tuned-up our furnace and it is working like a gem. I'm disappointed that I paid for a tune-up and all I got was some lousy advice - thank goodness I'm only out $29 with them instead of the full price they were charging. I definitely won't be calling Scott Hale with future issues.
Jenn O.I had a broken pipe in my wall and called these guys .. They were such a rip off .. Charged $200 just to cut a 8x8 hole in my calling to connect the broken pipe .. When it was over the bill was outrageous..!
Great customer support, even on a friday evening! Very pleasant to work with and looking forward to using them in the future!
Rebecca U.Steven came to my house to fulfill an Amazon Local coupon for an air conditioner tune-up. He was extremely nice and very professional. He wasn't pushy about other services, and had only great things to say about his boss and the entire company. He ended up doing a lttle more than a tune-up, but he explained why my A/C needed freon and quoted me a price before he did anything. I will definitely use this company in the future!
Amanda L.The technician was very friendly, but totally ripped us off! The only reason we used their company was because there was a furnace tuneup deal on living social. The technician checked everything, but told us we needed a new flame sensor. Before I knew it, he had pulled out a new one and installed it (which took about 30 seconds) and charged us $119. This was supposedly the ""member pricing discount"", whatever that means. We could have easily bought the part for $16.50 online and installed it ourselves. We tried to contact management to complain, they put us off for a couple days, and then ""generously"" offered to give us a $50 refund. While we were grateful to get some money back, that is still a $52.50 charge for something the technician did in 30 seconds that we could have easily done ourselves. Ridiculous! I would never recommend them to anyone!
This company is horrible! We got our AC with them because it was a good deal and in the paper that I found them in, they had good reviews which wouldn't surprise me if they paid the paper to put those reviews in there. After two years of having our AC, it started to break down. I called them for a service call and they came out to look at it. The guy spent an hour talking to me about how we needed to clean the inside coils (which was correct) but he was also charging us $400 to do it. Also that we needed to clean the outside unit (which was correct) which would be another $300 and that we needed to install a hard start (Which was a complete lie) which would be another $500. I asked the guy if we might be able to install the hard start ourselves and he made it sound like our AC would blow up if we tried to do it ourselves.
I had a strong feeling they were trying to rip us off. I found another company on Yelp that had great reviews and called them out. To clean the outside unit it would just be the price of their service call which was $65. To clean the inside coils it would be $125 just because it would take longer to get to it because of some pipes blocking the way. But if they combined the two cleanings it would just be $125.
The repair man said that the hard start was really unnecessary and was probably just a way for the company to get more money from us. But if we did need a hard start the hard start itself cost $30 dollars plus they're labor call which is $65. I told him about the other company our AC would ""explode"" if we did it ourselves and he laughed. I showed him the hard start we purchased online for $30 and he said yeah those are the ones I have in my truck that will work fine you're only connecting a few wires after all.
Also the reason that our AC coils were so dirty on the inside is because they had us using the wrong sized filter. Surprise surprise. Makes me wonder if this is there way of ensuring things break down just so they can charge us up the wazoo!
Scott Hale Plumbing are DISHONEST SWINDLERS who will do anything to get a buck. Avoid them if you don't want to empty your bank account!
HORRIBLE SERVICE! We used Scott Hale last week. It was the first and last time we will do business with them. When making the appointment I was informed that we would be the last appointment for the technician before he headed home for the weekend. He arrived a couple of hours early (plus) and got to work. At one point we were informed that he would need to cut a few small holes in the wall to fix a leak. I thought it was strange that our receipt said 'owner will repair holes' after he told us that he wasn't responsible for repairing the holes. Then I spoke to other companies who told me they always repair the holes. I now have four 12 inch square holes in my wall. He also welded the pipe in the wall without having a fire extinguisher (which I was informed of after the fact.... he said he forgot it...oops). Thankfully no fire started (maybe that is why the holes are so big?). He also said he had to go to SLC to pick up a few things so he wouldn't be able to fix it until Monday (this was around 3 in the afternoon). When pressed, he agreed to come back and finish the job that night. I realized that he wanted to start his weekend early but come on. He charged us an extra $50 because he didn't bring the necessary supplies with him (but didn't grab an extinguisher when he made the trip).
I'm giving 2 stars because despite the terrible service, our a/c does now work and the cost was only 20% more than what we expected (and when isn't it, really?). This could be a fantastic business but the technicians are their representatives and I wouldn't risk getting this guy again.
Would not recommend this company. Had a problem with my furnace, technician indicated the inductor motor was out. Said he could not replace just the motor but had to replace the whole housing. Wanted $1500 just for that plus a number of other things that did not need to be replaced. Found the motor on the internet for $119. Replaced it myself in about 10 minutes.
