The blower on my forced air heat system stopped working. I called a different company first. They sent a tech with no tools who declared ""You need a new blower motor"" without even opening the furnace. After I sent him packing, I called Schumacher & Farley. I'm glad I did.
Their tech, Gerry came well within the appointment window and after a brief conversation about the problem, he got to work. Well, it wasn't the blower motor at all. The circuit board had failed. Gerry diagnosed the problem and then laid out what I needed. Upon checking with the supply house for a new circuit board, we agreed on a price. Gerry even helped me keep the cost down a bit (thanks Gerry). The part arrived and Gerry again arrived within the appointment window, replaced the defective board and tested the system. Everything is working fine now. The folks at Shcumacher & Farley were pleasant and professional. Making the appointments was a breeze and processing payment went very smoothly. From start to finish, Schumacher & Farley were a step ahead of any plumber I've dealt with in my 22 years of homeownership. By the way, I found them through Yelp and their great reviews. These folks are highly recommended.
Quick and Professional Service! That is what you'd hoped for when you have no hot water running through your faucet/shower. And that's exactly what Schumacher & Farley provided! Fred and Max(?) were courteous and straight forward with what needed to be done to resolve the issue. Fred also checked first to see if my old water heater was still under warrantee, to possibly save me some money (unfortunately it was not) but nonetheless it was a very proactive approach in resolving my issue and that to me says a lot about the company. Must companies nowadays don't care about the client, they are only concerned about getting paid. Everything was completed in 3 hours - I never expected that. I am a satisfied customer and I highly recommend Fred and his team from Schumacher & Farley!
This was a couple of years ago, but still...
My family used this company for over 30 years. I had a backup in the sewer line from the street to the house. They contracted it out to one of those sewer and drain cleaner outfits that charge $99 to snake the entire line. When I got the bill, I was charged a service fee AND the fee of a licensed plumber. When I complained, and told them that they charged me twice the amount for making a phone call, they took a few bucks off with the attitude that they were being generous and I was lucky to get a discount.
They do great work, but I can't use them for being such snakes.
We called Schumacher & Farley on a cold Sunday in December after realizing our boiler had broke. Early Monday morning, Fred and his crew came to our help by assessing the problem and returning to start the process of replacing our boiler within the hour. In the very cold morning temperature, the helpful and polite crew replaced the system. By the afternoon, we were thrilled to have the heat finally back on in our home. After realizing additional work was needed, Fred came back with an extremely fair price. That was a great Christmas present!!!. I would recommend Fred and his crew highly if are looking for fast, fair, clean and courteous company.
Kevin S.Excellent prompt service, up front pricing, and dedicated professionals is the experience I got when I called Schumacher and Farley. I had the pleasure of having Fred inspect the issues with my water heater as well as walk me through the process we would have to go through to get National Grid to turn the gas to my house back on after having had it shut off due to a detected gas leak. Phil came to do the actual servicing itself and did a fantastic job of fixing any and all issues identified. He also was great at making sure I was actively aware and fully understood the need for any work that was done while servicing the issue. I will absolutely be using their services again if any plumbing or heating needs arises in the future. Schumacher and Farley are true professionals and I would highly recommend their services to everybody.
Barry E.The other reviews are accurate. S & F are well organized and professional. They made a prompt appointment and arrived on time (well, within 20 minutes). The technician diagnosed and resolved my problem right away. He used shoe covers so as not to rack his boots on my floors and carpets- I haven't seen that before. He explained the problem and told me how to avoid it in the future with regular maintenance. They are also very, very expensive. It was $350 for about an hour's work.
If you want to save $350: I have a split ductless ac that was not draining condensate properly. Water was spilling into the house. Simply spray the condenser coils with a bleach solution whenever you wash the filters. The bleach will destroy mold, and will drain off the coils with the condensate.
Our sewer line was getting backed up quite frequently. It was cleared each time by a technician with a snake machine. But we wanted to get to the root of the problem. After some googling, we called Schumacher and Farley after reading good reviews on Yelp. They came on 1/8/14 and I explained to them the problem. They said to find out the problem, the best bet was to do a camera inspection, which I agreed and was performed on a later time (1/31/14). They charged $705.60 for it and promised that footage would be uploaded and sent to me in a couple days.
After a few days, after more internet search, I realized they over-charged me for this service. I emailed the company and someone called and explained that they billed me incorrectly for blockage clearance and camera inspection and promised a refund. He said the cost of camera inspection would be $400. I also mentioned about the footage from the camera inspection. Again, he said they would be sent in a couple days.
After another few days, I realized it was billed $530 for the service which the man said would cost about $400. I called and I guess a manager explained to me that the man quote a range. I asked when the footage would be sent, and she said a couple days.
The reason I hired them was to find out what is clogging the sewer line and present a list of options going forward. I have received nothing but a hefty charge. On their invoice, it says ""customer service is our #1 focus"" and the Yelp reviews mention reasonable charge. None of it is true with my experience. Avoid, avoid,
Our home had a gas emergency that required immediate attention. ConEd stopped the leak, but we needed to get a permanent repair made during an extreme cold wave when most plumbing companies were busy with heating emergencies. Schumacher and Farley took our call, met us at the house, explained what was needed and the cost, and scheduled a repair crew for the next day. They showed up exactly when they were supposed to. Leslie and his men were neat and professional as well as being friendly and informative. Fred joined them at the end of the job to insure that everything was done according to regulations and he waited for the ConEd representative to inspect and sign off on the repair. In talking to Fred, I learned that this is family run business where customer service is extremely important. I would recommend them highly and expect that they will be the only call that I will need to make for future plumbing jobs.
There are a lot of good reviews about them so i tried to schedule an appointment. They are crazy expensive. For them to diagnose a problem, $125 for the first 1/2 hour and $90 for every 1/2 hour after. I just went and look for another company.
Deborah B.Excellent !!! We have a lot of respect for this company! Our water heater broke and we were impressed by how quickly it was replaced. In the process we were informed that the vents were placed incorrectly and would have to be corrected . We learned a great deal about a heating system. Fred Dobler Jr has respect for his trade and his clients. Like most people there is a trust factor involved when hiring a company, with this company you can be assured that you will have the best customer service . Professional , knowledgeable , and courteous. Philip Legotte was great . Everything was completed and cleaned up . Everything was explained in detail to us by not only By Philip but by Fred as well ! We definitely have found the right company !!!
