On March 20 2017 San Jose Plumbing, came to my house to bypass a pipe leak in the slab. I showed him what I thought he should do and he suggested a slightly different method which I accepted. This included cutting a notch in a wall to run a copper pipe and running the pipe across the ceiling and into another room. I told him that the wall that needed to be notched was stucco, but he knocked on it and said it was sheet rock. I asked him how much it would cost to do the job and he said $700 - $800.

When he completed the work, he said the charge was $1234. I questioned him about it reminding him he told me $700 - $800. He said the $700 - $800 did not include materials and that the job was harder than he expected. The job was harder than he expected partly due to having to cut stucco instead of sheet rock.

He should have told me that the $700 - $800 was just for labor initially and should not have charged more than he originally told me.

We discussed this and he said he would agree to make the charge $800. I thought he had changed the cost on the bill. When he left, I noticed that he hadn't changed the price on the bill. As he was getting into his truck I checked with him to make sure we were in agreement that I was to be charged $800. He agreed!

Today, I received a bill for $1234. I am disputing this amount and agree to pay only $800. I RECOMMEND NEVER DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!

I'll take my review back to 2 star since I was told by the esimator Adam that the plubming estimate for chaging pipes will be sent to my email address for 3 days and it has been 8 days and nothing. Their Secretary was nice though.

We have used San Jose Plumbing for over 17 years. We always requested that Kevin, the owner do our job. We have been extremely happy with Kevin's work. I will give him 5 stars for all the work he has done for us.

Lately Kevin is reluctant to take up some tasks, especially if the work involves newer brand of products. He then refers to others who is supposedly more familiar with those brands. Once he asked me to get an appointment with his son for our work. Well, after leaving a message with the receptionist for an appointment with Kevin's son, they didn't bother to call and give me the appointment or to tell ne they can't do the job. We had one other person come twice only to let us know that we need to buy other parts. He charged us $350 for the two visits and never bothered to finish the job. So my initial 5 stars are down to 1 now. I am sorry to see their service level degrade so much, but we can't afford to continue to put up with it any more. So we have decided to go with other companies.

Update on the work they did four years ago to install French drains and two outdoor sump pumps...in the heavy rains this winter, one of the sump pumps failed. They came back out and at a managerial level agreed to replace the pump with an even stronger one, at no cost. The plumber Hammer worked very hard and labored through the rain. The new pump has valiantly operated through the waves of storms which have since been occurring, including ones dropping three inches of rain in a day. And throughout the past few years, the French drains have operated magnificently.

One hopefully constructive suggestion (the only reason I am not providing another five star review): they showed up two hours later than their appointment window. I can see from other reviewers that SJP has stood them up or been delayed. It should be an easy, standard practice for their plumbers to simply phone in if they are likely to run late in a job and have a central dispatcher apprise the clients lined up for later in the day, so customers can adjust their plans and get errands or other things done rather than waste hours in a day waiting for a plumber who already knows he is running late. This small investment of effort is not just courteous, but would also increase tips, business, and ensure more positive feedback for attracting other potential customers.

After the technician didn't show up during his appointment window was past, I called the office. After they hung up on me, I called them back to learn that they ""forgot"" to call me an hour earlier to tell me he was running late. They assured me someone would be there that afternoon, and 10 minutes before the second appointment window was closed, someone (not the guy they said) arrived. At one point, he left to get parts, but after his return, I went to check on him and he was missing. He did a crap job at the installation of new shower stems. 1) he installed the stems on the opposite valves 2) he did not cut the hot stem to length 3) he cut the right stem too short so the thumb screw could not be tightened 4) he damaged my toilet seat cover when he used it to cut the stems 5) he did not pick up his mess 6) he tried to convince us that the hardware was specialty and he would return with more parts the next day, but what he really did was screw up the job so badly that he was trying to cover his tracks.7) tried to pass a used stem for a new one. 8) cross threaded the stem and bent it beyond repair. I wish I could attach photos. For a Diamond Certified company, they are a complete sham.

I have used this company for a minor sink faucet repair. The scheduler ensured she assigned the job to a technician who was knowledgable with my particular brand of faucet as they are different to install... first thumbs up. I was given an arrival window of 3-5pm. I received a call around 4:15 stating he was finishing up his current job and would arrive closer to 5pm... second thumbs up. Not many companies give you an updated ETA when using the ""appointment window"" system.

I have also used this company for a MAJOR repair of replacing my main water and sewer lines. The team always showed up on time. The city inspection went flawlessly.

I couldn't be happier. I have used other plumbers in the past and ALWAYS had issues with the repairs. My money is well spent using San Jose Plumbing. I have an ease of mind knowing my plumbing issues will be resolved the first time, and they stand behind there work. Added bonus, all the employees I have dealt with have been friendly and helpful.

I can honestly say this is the only plumbing contractor I feel confident to recommend to family and friends.

Mike was absolutely professional! Clearly explained what was going on with my pipes at each stage of the repair as well as a clear and accurate estimate of cost. He was also pretty quick, repairing my leaking pipes in way less time than I thought it was going to take!

Next time I need a plumber, I'm calling San Jose Plumbing again!

I can't speak to the quality of the work; they stood me up --- twice!

I had them come out to quote for a sink vent. Jose seemed knowledgeable, gave me a quote and we set a date/time for the next week. Half an hour into the designated date/time, no Jose. I called, the office said they had no record of the appointment. I made another appointment for two weeks out. So far so good, annoyed but, hey, we all make mistakes.

In the meantime, my main backed up. I called, they said the soonest they could come was the next day 3-5pm. I wasn't going to be home, so a neighbor came to the house during the time. At 5, she texted and said, no plumbers. I called them, no answer. I called the next morning. They didn't apologize, they just said, ""Oh, let me find out what happened and let you know when we can come."" I said no thanks and to please cancel my appointment for the sink vent.

About a week later, the day before the sink vent appointment was to have been, they called and said they needed to reschedule the appointment. I said, ""Um, I already canceled it.""

Their office staff is utterly unorganized or incompetent or both. I can't tell. Again, I have no idea if they do good work or not, but good luck getting them to come out.

Terrible service and rude people
They stood me up twice and when they showed up for an estimate they were difficult 10 seconds into the discussion and made no attempt to make up for their failure to meet their commitment.
