The water heater went out in our rental home unit in San Jose. The company was quick on getting someone to give a free estimate so 5 stars for promptness and for how late at night it was. But, they are way over-priced, preying on customers that need immediate service. Quoted us $2700 for a basic water heater. We called Home Depot and got one installed for $1600 which also included a permit and a pressure valve device to help prevent future deterioration for the newly installed water heater. Keep on dialing.

Never again! I had used San Jose Plumbing for a long time and they were okay. I had them out in March and paid the bill. To my surprise, they billed my credit card again in July. I gave them the courtesy of a call to get reimbursed so they would not have to pay the charge back fee to credit card. They made me jump through hoops to send them all verification (which their billing department should have had) and then said they preferred to mail me a check in stead of crediting my credit card! After 3 weeks and no response or check I called my credit card company who immediately gave me a temporary credit. They said the merchant had two months to respond before they could close the case. San Jose Plumbing chose to ignore it for the whole two months and I now have the permanent credit. How poorly managed is that business? I will never use them again and suggest there are a lot of other credible plumbers around so who needs them?!

Very bad. First they did not show up for the appointment I made (blaming that I never made the appointment in the first place). Then the next day someone came and told me: I do not speak English and we cant communicate just because I asked him to explain to me what he meant by his question:""How often does the toilet plunge?"" because I did not understand what he meant by that and could not answer the question.
Outrages! I wish there is a zero star option. Wow!

Thank you so much for helping us replace our cracked old pipes under the house. Everyone at your office sounds so happy on the phone and friendly. Angelo was very professional and extremely knowledgeable. He worked quickly and efficiently and answered all my questions. I highly recommend San Jose Plumbing and Angelo! We have a few more projects that need to be done and will be calling you soon!

The plumber that came out to do a very simple job charged almost 600. I think this company gouges people. The job shouldn't have taken more than an hour tops. The guy had to come back two days in a row.

Had a clogged drain and nothing we could do ourselves was clearing it. We used San Jose Plumbing before and with good results so thought we'd call again. Called at 9 am and they said they'd be there between 1 and 3. Arrived at 1:20 and had the problem fixed in less than half an hour. Quick, easy and affordable!

This company came out to my elderly parents house and repaired a leak under the concrete. My parents were given a senior discount. The leak in the house was causing 35 gals an hour to be wasted and my parents bill for 2 mons was $600. Thank you for the quick and efficient job. My father said the guy who did the repair was very good and he even hauled away the concrete debris. Telephone receptionist was very compassionate too.

I recently used San Jose Plumbing and would highly recommend them.
This was our situation: We had a stopped up toilet that we thought might just need to be snaked to clear it. I looked up ratings of various plumbers, got no response from one, called San Jose Plumbing, but they are close to $200 to come out, and they were also going to charge extra if they needed to use their camera equipment to view the lines, which I didn't like, so I skipped them and found an $88 deal with Rescue Rooter. Rescue Rooter asked which 2 hour time-slot I'd like for the next day, and since I had a client in the morning, I asked for the apmt. time at noon. At noon, we got a call that it would be closer to 2:00. Then we got a call that it would be from 4:00 - 6:00. At 5:30 Dahn finally arrived. Dahn tried using a snake, then also tried the clean-out pipe outside, and said he'd need to call his supervisor. Dahn said there were a couple customers before us, but his supervisor would be there in a few hours. Meanwhile, Dahn spent much time talking about becoming a member, to avoid higher costs on future plumbing, such as, if they have to remove the toilet to further snake it out, the starting cost is $500. Dahn's manager, Roger, arrived after 9 p.m., apologizing that he had personal errands to do first (not other customers). They spent a lot of time tracing pipes outside, using a loud beeping machine (loud for the 11 p.m. time they were using it, for our neighbors), and the short of it is, gave us an estimate for thousands of dollars wanting to replace a T-pipe with a curved pipe outside, and connect it to a manhole main pipe about 4 feet away, saying the shape of the T-pipe (that has been there for 40 years) is the ultimate problem. They also said the main pipe leading to the road had sitting water, and that would be an additional cost, in the tens of thousands of dollars. I asked for a cost breakdown, and was told that the project was just entered into a computer, and that's what it came up with, so they couldn't break it down. I told them I'd need to get additional quotes.
I called San Jose Plumbing again, and explained the situation. They let me talk to Luis, who told me it sounded fishy, and I agreed. Luis mentioned coming from a long line of plumbers, and it aggravated him that anyone could call themselves a plumber these days, and he'd seen many re-piping jobs that did not need to occur, and often that later had issues that he'd had to fix. Another concern we'd had was that the San Jose Sewage company had been out just days before, bringing in at least 6 men, several very large trucks, and lots of equipment, digging up part of our backyard, right near these pipes, to find 2 man-holes in our backyard that they keep losing track of. We were concerned that they could have affected our pipes with their work. And, strangely, the day after our initial plumbing issue, we found a water pipe near the street suddenly leaking water, near where the San Jose City Sewage operators had been driving their trucks off the side of the road, as they kept blocking traffic. We had the Water Co. come out to turn off our water, to temporarily stop the leak. This was on a Friday, heading into the weekend.
Luis, from San Jose plumbing came out when he said he'd be there, and ended up fixing our toilet using just a snake, and did not need to remove the toilet, which seems to drive costs up, but not near as much as Rescue Rooter wanted to charge after luring customers in with their $88 offer. Luis's team fixed the water pipe leak, so we could have our water turned back on. He also advised on using white vinegar for unclogging toilets and sinks, and never the products that many buy (Drano, Liquid Plumber,... which can eat through your pipes -- especially older ones). Overall cost was under $500, and it was all done very promptly.
So, while I was turned off by the initial costs of bringing out San Jose Plumbing, in the long run we felt we had very qualified, honest, professional service; they did not keep us waiting or keep changing times on us as Rescue Rooter so that we had to be dealing with them outside in the dark until 11 p.m., and in the long run, we did get value for the cost of service.
Knowledge: 5 stars

I would definitely use San Jose Plumbing again.
I would definitely recommend Luis' expertise.
And, I strongly recommend if anyone is given a high quote on plumbing, no matter who they are working with, to get multiple quotes and opinions before any serious work has begun.

This is just the absolute best company; Kevin is a gem. Straightfoward, no pressure, no nonsense, NO upselling! I don't know why when I do a search for plumbers or plumbing this doesn't jump to the top of the list because as far as I'm concerned, SJP is #1.

Arranged an appointment and advised them that I would be traveling an hour and a half to meet them at my rental unit for a quote. Received a call 10 minutes before the appointment and was told that things got busy and they didn't get a chance to call me to tell me that their guy was running long and they wouldn't be showing up. I reminded them of my travel time and they said that they would call me back. No call back.
