Company Overview

San Francisco Plumbing has built a reputation for exceptional sewer repair and replacement. Our service is known for being prompt and trustworthy.

Founded in 1976 by Clay Hogan Sr., San Francisco Plumbing began in the family home located in the Sunset District of San Francisco. After the passing of their father, Clay Jr. and his twin brother Sean took over in 1994, and the business has thrived ever since.

Sean Hogan spent his childhood in the Sunset District with his four siblings. As children, Sean and Clay Jr. learned about plumbing by watching their father, Clay Sr. In 1976, Clay Sr. founded San Francisco Plumbing Company, with Sean and Clay becoming his apprentices. Upon graduating high school, both brothers attended plumbing school and became licensed professionals. They gained experience by working at different plumbing firms throughout the Bay Area until the mid-90s, when they assumed control of the family business. Today, San Francisco Plumbing continues as a family-run business, successfully operating for more than 40 years under Sean Hogan.

We highly recommend SF Plumbing. We have had lots of work done by them in past, full bath downstairs in our house in the Sunset, replacing , installing sprinkler in the front and back of the house etc. Most recently, a brand new sewer line. They did it in record time and never needed to even come into the house or disrupt our water for more then an hour.
Of course everything is warranted. Oh, I almost forgot, they even do emergency work as well. Our old water heater in our basement busted.I called Sean and he called me back on a Saturday mind you. Replaced it with new & improved one. Very reasonable rates, too.

Sincerely ,
The Butlers

Thank you Sean for the best plumbing experience ever!!

After a snaking attempt did not work, I had made the mistake of using a chemical drain cleaner in my shower with poor and toxic results;) - nasty stuff to use only as a last ditch effort.

Sean snaked the drain in no time and even replaced two washers on my sink... after I had already paid!

I recommend this company - nice guy and great service

I've used SF Plumbing a few times.

1st service: Changing a water heater at a rental property. All work was completed within 24 hours (with permits that they obtained per my request), with no issues. A week or two later, the occupants complained of the smell of gas. I had SF Plumbing come out to check the connections and work on the previous work done. In the end, it was coming from a gas connection in another location. They fixed that (probably just needed tightening) with no charge.
***** for this service call because they were quick and responsive

2nd service: Changing a pipe in the wall and under the garage floor that was broken/cracked and leaking into the garage. Because of the location of the leaking pipe, they had to come out several times to figure out a solution. The slop sink also didn't have a proper p-trap drain, but they did not recommend changing it. They ended up replacing the pipe and no complications have arisen so far.
*** for this service call only because a 2nd person had to come out to try to figure out a solution.

3rd service: Fixing a leaking toilet in rental property. This call took all day much longer than anticipated. Bill was about $350.00. The guy working on it was very nice. He said if he had known how difficult it was going to be he would have just changed the entire toilet because it would have been cheaper.
*** for this service call

4th service: Fixing a leaking sink in my downstairs in-law unit. We thought it was the pipe under the sink that was leaking. It turned out that basket strainer was just loose. Plumber arrived a little late...(maybe 15 minutes) and replaced the part. I think he was probably there an hour or an hour and a half. No problems or issues with leaking since that. Price was reasonable. Plumber was knowledgeable and friendly.
***** for this service call.

Next service to be done (no appointment yet): Clogged bathroom sink, fix/replace sink drain which is now loose, fix/replace faucet handle. My husband normally snakes all the lines once every year or two. In this case, he has tried to clean it out and got to the point where he couldn't unclog a 90 degree angled pipe. He also tried to fix the hot water handle but was not able to remove the screw which is stripped.

I've used this Plumbing company twice now. I have been so happy with the service. No regrets and no problems. What impressed me most was watching how DJ tested and tested then re-tested the install to make sure there were no problems or leaks.

I am sure my jobs were considered small compared to other jobs they do but no way did they make me feel that way.

I highly recommend this company for fast service, fair prices and pleasant staff. Thank you so very much and keep up the great work.

San Francisco Plumbing has done lots of repair jobs at my place. This last one was the largest. The drainage under the house wasn't done properly by original plumber (not SF Plumbing) and I had damp in my basement walls and wet carpet - very fearful what would happen with a big rain. Clay brought in a crew of three employees and sub-contractors to dig a trench, install proper drainage and catchment basin/sump pump. All done and cleaned up beautifully. They even vacuumed my carpet! Clay and Sean can handle any plumbing problem and make it right for good.

We called out San Francisco Plumbing Company for two large projects in our house. The first was bringing our laundry plumbing up to code and running a gas line to the laundry, removing our old hot water heater (in the kitchen no less...), and installing an outdoor inline tankless hot water heater. The second job they did was to replace the last of our cold water galvanized pipes with copper.
As far as quotes, they were very competitive compared to the other companies we had look at the job. Clay was very willing to answer all my questions and gave the job a very thorough look through, so we ended up going with them.
We are so happy that we did that! Rob was the one who was at our place the most (Pete, Jose, and I think his name was Amin? all worked on our place too), and every person we interacted with was very polite, courteous, and personable. The guys got to our house at 8:15 am and started working right away. Rob gave me a run through of what they had planned, which I really appreciated. He did an awesome job, especially with replacing our pipes. We pretty much have no patching that we need to do, which is huge since we were anticipating having to do at least some patch work. He was even planning on hooking up a hose faucet in the backyard that wasn't working even though I forgot to mention it to him on the first day. I can't say enough about how great it was to work with them! They even left a note apologizing for having to leave some things out from under our kitchen sink because they wanted it to dry well. Lastly, Clay thought that it would take 2-3 days to finish our piping since our crawl space under our house is really tight in the back where all the fixtures are. Rob was able to finish the job in two days. Awesome work you guys, and thanks so much!

They came out for an emergency today. They were quick to respond, friendly and helped to console me on a messy situation. He repaired the leak and corrected faulty plumbing to prevent future problems.

I've used SF Plumbing for years but can no longer work with this company. Like others (in prior reviews), I have asked for and never received a receipt for work - in this case, to install new toilets (over $1,000) - despite emails, calls and a written letter. When our tenant experienced a shower leak, the technician (not Clay) never really fixed it. When the leak got worse scheduling a repeat visit was disorganized and when the technician finally arrived he couldn't even figure out how to stop the leak, let alone fix it. We used a different plumbing company that was able to diagnose and repair the leak with a simple parts replacement, provide a full receipt for work done and is easy to work with for appointments. I'm not sure why service has gone downhill, but I do not recommend this company any longer.
