At 14, the owner embarked on his journey in the trades. He gained knowledge the traditional way. It was usual to become proficient in multiple trades and their components. Today, many have become specialists, focusing on just one or two aspects of a trade. Well-rounded expertise is increasingly rare.
In 1978, Carwin earned a Drafting degree from Solano Community College. Afterward, he worked for a leading Custom Builder, where he learned about the business side of construction. He then took on the role of Superintendent for a Developer. Carwin returned to school in 1982, earning a degree in Electronics from Heald Institute, and moved into the Manufacturing Industry, where he rapidly became Plant Superintendent/International Service Manager. In 1986, feeling the pull of outdoor work, he rejoined the construction trade. Starting as a General Contractor with a B license, he now holds C-36, C-42, and C-20 licenses as part of Same Day Service Plumbing, Heating & AC.

Recommended Customer Reviews

I had a very good experience with Same Day Service Plumbing. The plumber was experienced, courteous, knowledgeable, and efficient. He notified us of a problem he had been called out to inspect previously but had not been corrected, so we were able to address it before it became more serious. They are very professional and I would not hesitate to call them again.

Same DAY Service Plumbing was the worst company I've ever dealt with in my 51 year life. They came out to my rental house to look at a water leak. Because I was not there and dealing with them over the phone, I guess they thought they could rip me off. The guy told me they could fix it for $1,200 and he would need to come back the next day with a helper. I asked him how long it would take and he said that they don't charge by the hour but by the type of job. That should have been my warning. I pushed him to commit to how much time it would take to fix it and he said it would take the two guys all day. I figured two guys, 8 hours each, 16 hours total, that works out to $75 per hour for professional labor, which I felt was fair. I didn't want to put my tenants out any longer, so I gave them the go ahead and my credit card number to charge it to. When they came the next day, the 2 guys were there for 1.5 hours to fix the problem. When I told them I wanted my bill adjusted, they said no, because they charge by the job not the hour. Give me a break, that is $400 an hour, my attorney only charges $250 per hour. I got a run around by everyone at their office for weeks. I finally got a hold of the owner, Carlin, and he was reluctant to do anything until I threatened to lodge complaints with the contractors association and the better business. I told him I wanted half my money back. I should have stopped payment on the credit card but I tried to be fair and work it out with them. Carlin said he would think about it and call me. He never called me back, I had to call him again. He said he sent me a check for $369 back. I basically paid $831 for a 3 hour repair, $277 per hour. He gave me enough back to not make it worth pushing it any longer but I was still very unhappy. I ended up having to hire another local plumber to repair their fix, which failed 3 months later. He charged me $70 per hour for 2 hours work and $35 in materials, for $175 total. I would not recommend Same Day Plumbing Service to anyone.

When i called up they were very nice. The plumber who came out was nice. Supposed to clean outside drain, but could only do about 10 feet back away from the house, could not go the 30 feet toward the house.
When quoted the price for the original clean out $350. Ended up paying $350 for 10 feet of clean up. When I called the office to check on this, office person was very abrupt. Problem still existed called another plumber, Did the other portion for $125.

I thought the cost for just replacing the soap dispenser in the kitchen sink with a metal cap so water wouldn't leak under the sink was OUTRAGEOUS !! THEY CHARGED ME $180.00.

I called them once and will never use this company again. I had a leaking kitchen garbage disposer which had to be replaced. Josh (one of their technicians, he was indeed very polite, friendly and really knew his business) came next day after the service call, looked over my plumbing and wrote an estimate for $790 for what is about a 1 hour job (disposer replacement and a minor toilet leak fix) + the service call fee of $49.95. This did not include the cost of the disposer itself: I would be buying a garbage disposer directly from Sears . Instead of paying this amount I decided to pay the service call fee but ask Sears for install the disposer which they did for about $100, and fix the toilet leak myself. So, if you call Same Day Service Plumbing, ask them about their pricing before their plumber comes: Otherwise you might be unpleasantly surprised by their charges, not using them and end up paying their service call fee.

$125 to come to the house to give us an estimate that is literally 4 times what the next plumber (who came to the house and gave us an estimate for free) did the job for. Having the job done safely and properly was our top priority. Trying to take advantage of potential customers who may be too intimidated or worried to shop around is something else.
An estimate shouldn't cost a day's salary.
Avoid this company.

Sadly, I totally agree with the other reviewer. There is one guy there that is terrific (James) but he is a boss now and the folks that get sent out are not great and very expensive for what you get.

We have only praise for this service. The workers were all pleasant, professional, and ""good explainers."" They not only did the work we'd signed up for, but they added special touches, as well. And the price was right, but high for us, so we used their 18-months same as cash plan.
We had our sewer line and the water intake line (from the street to our house) replaced, as well as some other things done. When they were done. one of the workers said that he'd be back to replace some brick trim along the driveway that had been broken during the work being done. Two days later, there he was, and fixed it up great.
We'll be getting some more plumbing work done, and we;re certainly going to call this company to get it done!

I called Same Day Service to repair a toilet in Vallejo. They did arrive promptly and were professional but their pricing was laughable. The quote they gave me was for $1250 for the simple job of replacing a toilet. It ended up costing me $250 from an equally reputable licensed plumber. Plus they charged me for a whole home walk-through that I never requested to try to sell more stuff at high prices.
I would avoid this company at all cost.

DO NOT USE THEM. GET A FREE ESTIMATE ELSEWHERE!!
Went to Lowes and bought a $169 disposal. Called around to find the best price to have it installed. Most plumbers charged by the hour and their range was $100-$130. Most told me it would take about an hour to two hours for the job. I was feeling uneasy about not having a fixed cost on the job so I called Same Day Service Plumbing.
Very nice operator took my info and told me that they charged by the job and that there was a $49 charge for an estimate but the $49 would be absorbed into the cost of the job should I utilize their services. I thought well...this should be good. They will come over and give me a fair cost based on what they see. So I booked the appointment.
They arrived on time and with a smile like the ad promised...however...the price they quoted was $413.76 and they would give me a $50 discount. I was shocked...I asked if it was a joke. He said no. I asked how long it would take...he said an hour. This is robbery. The labor was almost 2.5 time more than the disposer itself. Needless to say I did not go with them but had to pay the freaking $49.
I called the establishment to complain and while it did not solve anything, it made me feel better. The lady who answered reminded me that they have been in business for 25 years. I see why...they probably make all their money with these estimates.
