Company Overview

Since 1985, RupCoe Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning has delivered outstanding service to South Plainfield, NJ, and nearby regions. With multiple options for plumbing and HVAC problems and a focus on detail from our dependable technicians, we guarantee your home's comfort. Give us a call today to arrange your next appointment!

Jim Coyle and Tom Ruperto founded this company in 1985 after completing their apprenticeships together. Operations began at their homes, but by 1994, they had to shift to a central site in South Plainfield to accommodate more warehouse space and manage the number of service trucks. While Jim and Tom don't typically take service calls anymore, they frequently find themselves in customers' homes, either delivering parts to technicians or evaluating finished bathroom remodels. Initially focused on plumbing and hot water or steam boilers, RupCoe ventured into HVAC during the 1990s. We selected the South Plainfield location for its convenient access to Rt. 287, which connects Middlesex and Somerset counties. We take pride in completing the job correctly the first time, and if we fall short, we promptly return to fix the repairs at no extra cost. We provide comprehensive bathroom and kitchen remodeling services, and we even offer painting!

Jim Coyle completed his plumbing apprenticeship from 1977 to 1981. He then worked for FMC Corporation in Carteret, NJ, acquiring skills in industrial pipefitting and insulation. In September 1986, he left FMC to dedicate himself full-time to RupCoe Plumbing & Heating alongside Tom Ruperto. Jim met Lisamarie Hohmann in 1990, and they tied the knot in 1991. They have a son and three daughters together. He participates in Sayrewoods Bible Church and enjoys activities like saltwater fishing, clamming, full-court basketball, and karaoke. He takes pleasure in yard work and various household tasks. Jim is involved in charity work for those in need through his church. Jim enjoys inviting friends and coworkers on fishing trips on his Parker 21' Sport Cabin, affectionately called ""Fishers of Men.""

Been using Rupcoe for years. I always had an idea they were expensive but I've spent thousands with them over the years (clogged drains, pipe replacements, new furnace and AC, maintenance plans over the years, etc). Loyalty I guess? Their first quote was for $440.00 plux tax to clear a clogged drain (are you kidding me?). They told me that this was the ""going rate"". When I asked to get a better price, they cut it to $290 plus tax. if I hadn't asked I really would have been taken advantage of (for a long-time repeat customer). I told them no thanks and still had to pay them $63.00 just to drive out and talk to me for 5 minutes. I called another plumber and got the job done for $240.00, I'll never use Rupcoe again.

We have a contract with Rupcoe and get very first rate service for all our plumbing repairs and heating maintenance. Their plumbers are skilled professionals and very personable. They explain what they do, use quality parts, and get the job done right the first time. Prices are high, but in our experience, you get what you pay for.

Our water heater officially went out today without any warning. I called assuming no one would be able to help during the holiday weekend, I was wrong. RupCoe came out to our house within 2 hours and also got us a whole new water heater and replaced it. The techs that came out were super nice! Now I have hot water again

Lucky I gave them 1 star. I spoke to Lisa when I needed to have a leaky toilet fixed. She told me that there was a 59.95 service charge which was fine. When the plumber came to our home he told my son that the parts were going to cost 80.00 and then left my home for an 1 1/2 to purchase the parts (there is a Lowe's 15 min. from my house). Came back to replace the parts approx. 45 min. When my son went to pay the amount it came to 865.00!!! These people are crazy if they think I am paying that amount! I could have bought a new toilet and had it installed for less than that. I only called this business because my reputable plumber was on vacation. WOW!

The only reason they get a 3 is because their customer service was very good, HOWEVER, their prices are very high. They gave me a quote of $690 to replace a sump pump, i got 3 additional quotes well below that price.

The additional 3 quotes were all licensed plumbers.

We upgraded our 40-gallon water heater to a Rinnai tankless.

Ricky was straightforward in explaining how the installation would be done, and the price was about what we expected. It was clear that Rupcoe was fully aware of how best to install the Rinnai.

Howard led a number of other fellows who actually installed the device. They were polite and did a nice job. Very professional work and we are quite happy with results.

Would not recommend, the technician who came out was rude and attempted to upsell on buying a new boiler which was 7500$.
We went with another company and our heater was fixed in less than 20 minutes

Had a service call late in the evening because that's when we noticed my furnace would not stop running water and temporarily put a large pot there and had to keep emptying. Never would have slept if they didn't come. Quick to respond, courteous, professional. Temporarily stopped the water but in turn - had no heat. Could not do the job for a few days because they already had a big job they were on but offered to get us space heaters in the meantime - (no charge) - coldest weekend when this happened. After a few days with no heat they came (Howard was the lead guy) Again - courteous and professional - installed my new furnace, bled all my baseboards and radiators -- Now I have heat again. I have been using them for 13 years and my only issue is I feel they are expensive. I know you get what you pay for but I think there is room to adjust their pricing -- at least their service call. If someone comes out and you give them the job - a lot of times a company will take off the initial charge because you hired them.

I called and they were prompt with dispatching someone to assist with the heat. The serviceman explained everything and showed me step by step how things worked. I liked the basic explanations shared and showing me how the heater runs and what to look for.

OMG, I wish we'd gone to Yelp before we contracted with these people. We have a condo in Bedminster and the water heater broke one day and it had a sticker on it that said it was installed by RupCoe so we called them to diagnose and fix the problem. Turns out the solution is to get a new hot water heater. I never would have gone with somebody with a two star rating. Hindsight, eh?

So they charged far more than any of our friends said was reasonable for the task. In the process of removing the water heater, they broke some trim and got greasy hand prints on the wall and stains on the carpet in the space adjacent to the water heater. In short they made a total mess of the work space AND NOW they've missed two appointments to have a carpenter come out to fix those problems. I'm pissed, yes. They really don't even deserve a two star rating from my experience.
