RMS, or Royal Mechanical Services, Ltd. was founded as part of Royal Home Protection, which is a part of Electronic Realty Associates, LP (ERA). Royal Home Protection, Inc. began its journey in 1972 and established itself as a trailblazer in the warranty and home protection industry. A significant advantage was ERA's vast, tailored database, allowing the ability to analyze data in real-time for better decision-making, which allowed the company to take proactive measures.

In late 1993, the Shyver couple bought Royal Mechanical Services from ERA and formed the business. Tom played a crucial role in the initial success of Royal with the parent company and saw a chance to link customers to sites using technology while promoting a strategy of personal communication. By adhering to this principle, Tom and Charlene directed the company to enhance customer relationships. This database later developed into what we now call our RAZOR facilities management system.

For the initial three years following its revival, the Shyver family operated the business from their home office. As the customer base expanded and the brand grew stronger, more family members joined the team. Soon after, it became necessary to find a dedicated office and they relocated to a small office suite shared with a veterinarian.
