Technician was ok. Would not give me a quote on the phone. When technician arrived he quoted my $480.00 to clean one main line. I said too much and he said we will see you later and started to walk away! I asked him if he would honor a $100.00 coupon and he said yes. Knocked it down to $380.00. I offered him $350.00 and he said $375.00. Because my sewer was backing up I said do it. Took him about 20 min. Thing is he would have walked and was not going tell me about the coupon. I had quotes from two other places for $225.00 and $250.00 and I should have waited for them. Not giving people a rough estimate ( like other business's I called did ) on the phone is where I feel the problem starts. If they would have quoted me like $480.00 I would have sayed no way and would have went with someone about half the cost! Will NEVER use Roto-Rooter again.!!!

Roto Rooter came out and cleaned my drain after a septic backup, and I hired them to do the mitigation/sanitation work afterwards. Their estimate was $4000 to $6000. The final bill was $12,900. They sent out a second drain cleaner on the day they were supposed to do the mitigation/sanitation work, so they had to send their team the next day, which happened to be July 4. It took them one day to do the work. They did not tell me they charged extra for ""after business hours,"" and they still charged me $400 for that. They had to demo about 100 square feet of flooring more than what they thought would be needed, and that's the only reason for the $6,900 - $8,900 over-bid charge. They also didn't tell me that it would cost that much to demo the rest of the floor. I never would pay someone $6,900 - $8,900 to demo my floor. Highly unethical and tricky salespeople. RR used to be an honest company, but I strongly urge you to find someone else should you have to go through this.

I recently requested the Roto Rooter in Minneapolis to come give us a quote for disconnecting our toilet, washing machine, dishwasher and refrigerator from the water supply so that our floors could be replaced. The plumber refused to give us list pricing and quoted us $1,500 for a 1-2 hour job. It was clear that it was late on a Friday night and he obviously didn't want to stay and do the job so over quoted us.

When I raised this issue to their manager, he insisted this was an accurate quote despite not having the visiting plumbers notes on our specific needs. When I asked what their list pricing was he refused to provide that information. He could not tell me how much it should cost to do said work because ""he wasn't there and hasn't been onsite to assess"" while simultaneously insisting that we were given an accurate quote. This is highly unprofessional and suspect. The manager who contacted me was clearly only interested in insisting that they had not been in the wrong but that their pricing is fair and accurate despite being almost 4 times the national average.

The lack of pricing transparency is troubling and not in keeping with a nationally renowned service like Roto Rooter. The customer service we received was argumentative and only made the situation worse.

We were left with no service being provided at the end of the day on Friday with our floors scheduled to go in Monday morning. This has obviously left us in a terrible position.
