I have had mixed results in using Roto-Rooter for my plumbing needs. While I do appreciate their customer service courtesy and the fact that they come when they say that they will, it often takes TWO service calls to resolve any plumbing or drain issue.

Many times this seems to happen because they do not listen well to your service request and simply send the wrong guy for the job. Other times, they send someone too inexperienced to do the job correctly without supervision, and it has to be redone later by another technician.

My latest experience of this was when they sent a drain guy to solve my completed unrelated plumbing problem, resulting in having to have a different guy come the next day -- a huge waste of time for all of us. I believe this wasted time is one of the reasons that their rates are so high.

Also, do not bother with coupons for these folks, as they will always find a way to say that they can't apply them or to raise the price so that you are paying the same amount, anyway.

They DO stand by their work, and eventually, they WILL get your problem fixed, but it may take more time and expense than you expect.

I had a service man named Dwayne (#3453) out yesterday to help unclog our pipes that had backed up into our basement. He was on time, very professional, very kind, and also upfront. I felt confident and comfortable that I was getting the best service possible.

Tony was a great tech. He explained everything to me so that I could understand it. Rotor rooter is the way to go. He's the 3rd plumber in less then 2 months and he was the only one that could tell me what my problem was.

Main drain needed cleaning, called Roto Rooter Thursday evening was told at 7:40pm plumber could not come until between 11pm and 3 am, then got another call after 9pm advising they can't come tonight; truck broke down; (seriously? only 1 truck for Roto Rooter?) then told they would come first thing in the morning; got another call at 7:19am advising the plumber was on his way; 8:25 am I called back asking of whereabouts of plumber on his way? 8:35 am, ""Drew"" (plumber) calls stating he is on his way then asks if I'm familiar with the pricing for Commercial calls? I advised this was a residential property, not commercial. He advised that since I didn't live at the house they considered it a commercial response and wanted to charge $379 to open the main drain? Don't think so. No more calls to Roto Rooter from me.

We used to roto-rooter today because of a sewage back up in our basement. We live in the liberty area. They showed up within the 2 hour window, gave us a good faith estimate, and finished the work within an hour. I told them about a coupon I found online and they honored it. The technician was friendly and to the point. No complaints here.

Replaced a small section of pipe and elbow coming from a sink to a main drain line. The pipe was old and sediment blocked about 50%. I was in the middle of a bathroom remodel and didn't know what to do but everything was very accessible. No drywall cutting needed. The service guy ended up cutting the pipe, installing an coupling, and the end that connects to the sink drain pipes.

The service rep, Nick, was friendly, honest, and got the job done. Came out and assessed the situation for free. It took him about 20 minutes and cost $198. Pretty pricey but I learned what to do and other plumbers were charging about the same.

I recommend Roto-Rooter

Tom (tech #760) arrived on time and was very knowledgeable, I would recommend them to anyone. They seem a little high but they can make up by how quick he is

First, our drain techm Drew, was a professional guy. We had a main line clog and he was out here within an hour after calling. Drew proceeded to look at the issue and inspect our drain. He explained all of the options available, then took it upon himself to find the most expedient option.
I have to hand it to our tech, he made sure to only promise exactly what he could deliver and was willing to correct any assumptions I was making about his service, before he preformed anything.
In the end we had a ball of roots contributing to the drain clog and Drew was able to remove the issue and get our basement problems under control.
While I agree that RR's overall costs can be a bit high (definitely higher than some quotes I received), I will say that the service and expediency overall led to a very good job on their part, much of which could be attributed to Drew's initiative and overall demeanor.

I tried to make an appointment online which did not work. I ended up calling them instead they are very professional. I told them specifically what was wrong. They sent out a technician who did not have the part nor did they have the expertise to do the job. To just go get the part is $75 and labor was going to be $350. It did not sound reasonable to me.

I took a peek at their price list. Outrageous!! I will never contact them again, ever.

The only saving grace, they were on time, even on a snowy afternoon and they did not charge me anything.

My experience with Roto-Rooter began with a house purchased in an older area of Kansas City. We were having main line issues - backing up so bad that we were getting water in the basement. We called Roto-Rooter because of their quick turnaround times, which I will say were quite impressive.

The first technician was great. He was super friendly, willing to walk me through the process and honest about everything. After the first servicing we began having issues again. The same technician came out (still friendly) and helped release the blockage. We then had the Roto-Rooter camera inspector come out. This is where our entire experience began to fall apart.

The camera inspector went in and didn't find anything blocking the outside of the house. He then tried to go through the pipe up into the house, but hit a couple snags and literally gave up - stating that there must be a collapse in a pipe or joint under the basement. He put together an estimate to replace an entire pipe length of 20-25 feet in the basement, which resulted in a fairly expensive proposal.

Trusting my gut, I went and called on an independent plumber who did a similar inspection with a camera. He easily located what was causing the blockage - a BRIGHT ORANGE drain stopper that had somehow been dropped down the drain at some point during previous ownership. Unfortunately, they still had to dig up the pipe, but it was only 3 feet.

I'm still astonished by the lack of attention given to the problem, and the immediate ""let's dig and cut"" approach after the camera inspection. Unbelievable.
