Do not call these crooks. I called them on a Sunday because I had a broken pipe in my ceiling. They came, looked at it and gave me a repair estimate of $3,000. That did not include repairing the ceiling. They probably could cut the ceiling open and fix the pipe in less than 2 hours. At $250/hr, that's $500. Add in travel time and materials, maybe $750. But, $3000, you should be ashamed of yourself. DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE! If Yelp would allow 0 stars that would be my rating.

We had our water heater installed by a Roto Rooter technician on 1/19/2017. Although the technician showed up 6 hours late, I'd say he did an efficient job by completing the installation in a total of 3.5 hours. The labor cost is definitely on the very high end however. Besides, what I'm really unhappy with is that for just a few small parts that we could get for less than $25 from home depot, the technician charged us $96 and he didn't quote us the price ahead of time and didn't let us buy our own parts from the home depot 5 minutes from our house. I believe you can get a better deal somewhere else.

My toilet water fill valve broke so I called Roto Rooter in Norristown. Told me they'd have someone out between 2-3pm, but he didn't make it out until 6:45pm. After inspecting the toilet he gave me the price - nearly $300! for a $12 part and a 10 minute job.

My local handyman came out the next day and did it for $25. I gave him $75 just because I appreciated his ethics as opposed to what I dealt with from Roto Rooter.

Fraud people . Gave free estimate and after talking through the price and once the job was done, they start asking for more. Very unprofessional and rude.

I will never recommend Roto Rooter for any kind of work.

First time using RotoRooter when my main drain line was backing up into my house. Gau and his trainee Chuckie arrived at my house within an hour of calling late on a Monday night. The issue was quickly identified as a clog in the outside pipe to the street, and they had it all snaked out and free flowing within 45 min. Gau let me know of some options I would need to consider down the road to help permanently fix the issue. He was also extremely friendly and made me glad that I gave this company a try when I was in a bind. Thank you Gau and Chuckie!

BTW, don't expect their service cost to be the cheapest around. But in a situation where the issue couldn't wait until morning, I felt that they gave me my money's worth based on convenience and the speed in which the issue was resolved. It was much better than fighting with snakes and Drano for hours.

DO NOT CALL ROTO ROOTER FOR A SIMPLE DRAIN CLOG!!! They have a fixed price of $420.00 for ANY drain clog. The service person was here not even 45 minutes! Simple shower clog. I had to kiss $420.00 dollars ""Good-bye"". Thy do not tell you they have fixed pricing up front. ONLY when they arrive. Then you are stuck because you need the service and you waited all day.

I am FURIOUS! And they make no apologies for their tactics. $420 for less than 45 minutes! THAT should be listed on their website. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Called them this am said they will send someone out for a free estimate and the guy that came was here less then 5 mins looked around and said $4800. Didn't event try to see if he could dislodge the pipe (which was done by another company about 20 mins after they left) NEVER USE ROTO ROOTER!!!!!

Negative review about Roto Rooter. Summary: high prices; high-pressure sales; unnecessary services (Roto Restoration - $3,000 est.); service person lied to us; taking advantage of elderly customers. We have a clogged sewer line resulting in a toilet overflowing. We had Roto Rooter do same service (cleared sewer line & clog) 2 yrs ago for $330 (w//$40 senior discount). Today the repairman said it would cost about $480. He said with 10% senior discount $440. The repairman was a fast talker and high-pressure sales. We are very elderly people and we feel that they were taking advantage of our advanced age and diminished capacity. We told Roto man that we weren't certain about him doing it because of the price and that we wanted to call Horizon and see how much they charge. The Roto mansaid that he had worked for Horizon before working for Roto Rooter, and he said that we would have to wait at least two days until Horizon came to do the work. That was a lie. We ended up calling Horizon and Horizon camed the same day and charged only $227 (w/senior discount), which was $215 less than Roto Rooter. Before calling Horizon, we finally succumbed to the Roto man's high pressure sales and his misrepresentation that Horizon would take 2 days. However, while Roto was setting up the snake, we called Horizon and Horizon said they would send someone over the same day, not two days later, like the Roto guy said. It was about 11 qam when Roto left our house. Horizon said someone would come to our house between 2-6 pm today. Actually, Horizon's guy arrived about 3 pm the same day and cleared our sewer line and toilet clog in about 10 minutes. Horizon's total bill to us was only $227, which saved us $215 over Roto Rooter's price.

Also, the Roto guy tried to sell us an unnecessary addt'l service costing $3,000 called Roto Restoration! He said that he could tell there was water in our walls and that a Roto Restoration team would come, remove paneling and drywall and dry out and remove all the water in the walls to prevent mold. The Roto man said that our homeowners insurance would pay for it; it wouldn't cost us anything. We said we weren't interested in the Roto Restoration. However, before the Roto guy left, a second Roto man came into our house and started in on trying to sell us the Roto Restoration. The Roto Restoration gave us a written ""estimate only"" for $3,000, saying they would remove our drywall, paneling and trim, to dry out the inside of the walls with 2 dehumidifiers and 9 fans. Again, he said that our homeowners insurance would pay the $3,000, and once we got the check from our insurance, we would then pay Roto Restoration. If homeowners insurance didn't pay us, then Roto would work with us on the payment. However, after Roto Restoration was finished removing standing water and water in our walls, he said we would need to hire a contractor at our own addt'l expense to put back on the wood trim, but we would probably have at least a $500 deductible with our homeowners' insurance.

We're glad we went with Horizon instead of Roto. We were very satisfied with Horizon. We will never use Roto Rooter again and will not recommend Roto Rooter to any of our neighbors.

Had a major sewer issue, Roto Rooter was very good and came in and explained absolutely everything.

Needed a simple drain unclogged.

They will not quote you a rough estimate on the phone and keep insisting on a free estimate once someone gets there.

Long story short, their quote was 4 times as high as it should have been. I told them I would have saved them the trip if they would have said so on the phone.
