Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

Sunnyvale, CA. Called and scheduled for someone to come over the next day between 12pm and 4pm. No one shows up, texts, or calls. I have to call at 3:30 to see what's going on. Dispatch says that they are really booked but someone will be there 8am/first thing in the morning.

Wake up early and stay at home again. Call them at 8:10AM. Find out I am booked for someone to show up between 8am and 12pm.

It's 9:30AM right now and they have no idea when a plumber will show up but they say it won't even be within the hour.

If I could give 0 or negative stars I would. Absolutely terrible service. Making people miss work and lose out on money because of incompetence.

This review was only for an estimate i received today on my water heater in the Orlando, FL area. I received an ""estimate"" from Pedro at 3pm, Monday Dec. 6th, 2021. It was a terrible estimate. I had presented the issue, that I wanted a tank water heater replaced with a tankless, electric 27KW water heater. The Tank water heater was on it's last leg and needed to be replaced after 11 years of service.

In a professional manner, Pedro insinuated that I was brainless human being that knew nothing about water heaters, and he happened to show up to save the day (this was his demeanor). He was an extremely condescending technician with a bad attitude. ""Who the heck put the idea in your head to get a tankless, electric water heater?"" ""Do you realize that you are going to be paying about $4,500 just in installation alone to get the right equipment and plumbing in your walls to support a tankless electric water heater, and then you will not be satisfied anyway."" (I knew both of these things were false, as i have relatives in Minnesota running a 27KW tankless electric water heater in a large home. Albeit, they get much less use out of it than i would in Florida). My uncle also owns an AC/Plumbing company, and he is the person that actually recommended the model of Tankless water heater.

I proceeded to let him finish, as he recommended a very expensive model of a hybrid water heater. I was very much done, and just let him finish before i waived him off. There were other indecencies stated by Pedro, but I will not go there, this review is long enough.  If these are the type of employees that are working at Roto-Rooter, i would not be going with this company. I did not have a service done, and i cannot comment on it. However with the knowledge that i knew, receiving an estimate as horrid as the one above, would you be getting your service performed through Roto-Rooter? Think twice on this one.

I have mixed reviews for Roto-Rooter. What I dislike the most is their deceptive estimating practices. My main drain pipe for the house was clogged and things were getting backed up. I called roto-rooter and asked what would be the charge to clean out the drain with easy access to the clean-out. ""Oh, sorry sir, I can't give that out over the phone. we need to send a technician out for an estimate"". Okay, I wanted to get this drain unclogged so I scheduled a time for the technician to come out. He gets there in a couple of hours and says ""Oh this is pretty straight forward, it will be $450"". I literally said ""WHAT? That is ridiculous"" Why can't they just tell you over the phone that the minimum cost to unclog a drain is $450?? They do not have to waste my time or their technicians. The problem with the FREE estimate from Roto-Rooter and others like them is that they are banking on your desperation to get the drain unclogged and that you will pay whatever. This is bull****. I will not be calling them again.

This company is horrible. We had our toilet clogged and we called late at night and said it was an emergency. We told then it is most likely because of the septic tank being full. They said ok and will send a technician out the next day because no one was available. They first told us that a technician would be there between 8am and 12pm. They then call us around 10:40am the day of and said they will be there around 3pm instead. The technician shows up at 4pm, an hr late. He looks at the septic tank and says, yup it's full. You need it pumped and we don't do that. They then charged us $142 just to have a technician come out and do NOTHING. This is ridiculous. We even told them on the phone it might it mostly likely was the septic tank and they were like ok, we will send someone out. Highly don't recommend at all.

I rarely rate a company poorly, unless, it were not what they would have expected. And yet. They still fool you here or there. We had an emergency. We smelled gas. PGE turns off the gas. Not hot shower. No hot food. Cold water splash while shaving. No gas. We called Roto and they said someone would come by between ....morning.....
Nothing
Called and changed to mid -evening.
Nothing
Called. Apologetically rescheduled next day afternoon.
Nothing.
2 days. No gas.
Called another company and came by quickly snd fixed quickly. Not a bad $1000.00.
And Roto-rooter did'nt even show up. And lied. They never showed up.

The plumber got there at 2:28pm. My appt was for 2. He left at 2:56. He walked around and bitch the whole time he was there. Got a bill for $125. NEVER AGAIN!! Ms. Paula took up for him!!

It's the worse company I ever dealt with, greedy, dishonest, they won't tell the priceuntill they fixed it,I called them for estimate to drain the sink, I asked for the price they said it so easy they fixed it by inserting the snake pipe in five minutes they finished, the price was $ 405 to unlock the small bunch of accumulated food,they didn't tell the estimate until after the job,they are liars cheaters and dishonest. never trust them.

I called, made an appointment, took pictures of the tankless water heater, model# and set up. I sent all of this to Rotor Rooter via text, (there internal way of communication with me) that I needed the unit descaled.
Tech shows up, looks at it, say hmmm. Takes pictures, Goes out to vehicle, comes back in and says, we can do , but not for 2 days. I do not have the materials needed. Distilled Vinegar....$450.
Not today...called 800 number, lady on phone said the 8nfo I sent was for schedule not for techs info....HELLO!!!!

Roto Rooter ended up overcharging me on my credit card as the technicians charging application was not working correctly - the discount wasn't applying. I have tried MULTIPLE times to contact Roto Rooter and never got past their customer service dept who did take down countless note and did try to have their branch office contact me. NOone ever contacted me to right the wrong charge. I have ended up needing to DISPUTE the charge through my credit card.

The tech was awesome and hand wrote on the receipt amount I should have been charged in case my credit card charge was a different amount. The tech, in my opinion, should be working for a different company to support his great customer service attitude.

Avoid it if you can ! Most expensive, deceitful estimates and poor service. We had a leaking faucet in our bathroom and needed a new cartridge to stop the leak. A technician came, went out to buy the cartridge at home depot, gave us an estimate of $350 for the repair, then came back with the wrong part. He left again saying he would call back when he had the part, and ask us to pay $125 as partial payment. By the end of the day, not having received any news, we called the office... who said the service had been done, and that we should buy the part !!! (How could we know; we are not plumbers). After arguing, we agreed to have the technician come back about a week later to complete the work. We were given an 8 o'clock time frome. By 10, nobody was there and we called back the office to learn that the technician only started at 2 PM...only to arrive by 3 PM. Then came to bill: almost $600 for installing a $50 cartridge, without any deduction for the first inconclusive call !!!! ""call Roto Router if you want your money come down the drain ""
