I called 1-855 line to schedule an estimate and was told an on-site visit was necessary. Two days later, I spoke with the dispatcher twice to confirm that a plumber is scheduled to arrive. The plumber called and gave me a ""flat rate"" quote of $239 for a bathroom sink replacement. I was livid -

1. I didn't have to wait 2 days to get a ""flat rate"" estimate!

2. It was inconsiderate to make me rush home to meet a plumber that was not coming and be called several times at work for confirmation.

3. When I questioned the quote, which was double for other quotes I received, the plumber questioned his own pricing saying he has heard of $90 or $135 etc. It sounded like $239 was arbitrary.

In summary, I didn't book and it is probable that I will in the future. I prefer to not be misled and deceived.

My past experiences with Roto-Rooter have always involved clogged drains. The technician would arrive on time with a big machine and in less than an hour he was gone. I do not recall a visit where I was not satisfied with the outcome.

This time things were different. My house is just over a hundred years old and the plumbing - virtually all of it -- had to be replaced. Instead of a local plumber, I decided to use Roto-Rooter.

1. Communicating with RR was easy. Their website works and somehow I stumbled onto the 24-hour phone number for their HQ on Central Ave in Farmingdale, Long Island.

2. An old cast iron pipe had burst in the basement and I had to turn off the main valve to avoid further flooding (this old system has almost no local cutoff valves). I got a detailed written estimate and despite the high cost, I gave RR the go-ahead. (Note that I had no running water, so I did not have the luxury of shopping around.)

3. The work was completed in two days. The 3-man crew was efficient and my cast iron pipes have been replaced with copper. Now I have cutoff valves for all branches.

4. I shelled out a lot of money but I think I received something for it. RR did not nickel and dime me, something that I have previously experienced. My guess (hope?) is that RR will honor its guarantee to a greater extent than my previous plumbers.

5. Finally, I want to commend the plumbing crew supervisor, Osern. I pestered him with a lot of questions, and he provided honest answers. (After past plumber experiences, I found this to be unusual.) Osern worked hard, he knows his trade, he cleaned up the mess, and he was easy to approach.

So following up on yesterday's post . This morning I had Roto rooter call me 5 times today trying to explain there prices , I wanted no part of it .. So the job that they quoted at 425 , I just paid 49.99 plus tax for a total of 56.44 .. Can't believe how they get away with inflated pricing

Very efficient. Came rather quickly (even though I called them after 8 in the night) and solved by plumbing issue rather quickly. The representative was friendly and professional. Gave me peace of mind.

Afer having a sewer back up two years in a row, when it happened again this year, I called and requested a camera. The plumber arroved without a camera. Had to call this company over amd over for a clogged sewer line. A different plumber came each time. All causing sewer water to flow in my basement. After many days and many tears, I demanded a camera and finally a plumber showed with a camera. This is when I learned that a pipeline was broken under my house. Waiting so long, caused lots of damage to my home. I had to hire acrestoration team and file a clai with my home insurance.

NEVER AGAIN! I had a leaking faucet that was also leaking under the sink. Called at 10 am and was told someone would be there within the hour. 5 hours later the guy arrived and moaned about the fact that he couldn't get parked. He looked at the faucet saw the leak, then moaned because he wasn't familiar with the faucet. He then quoted me $240 to fix the problem which I agreed to and thought was reasonable. He started shutting the water down to begin, then said "" you know what, I pass - I'm not doing this for $240 "" and left!! I was completely shocked and am now calling around trying to find another plumber as the water is still leaking. I never write reviews but I am so angry I signed up with yelp so others don't have the same lousy customer service experience. These people are absolute cowboys.

*UPDATE*
So as it turns out the problem was solved by simply taking off the handle and tightening a nut, which I did myself with the help of a guy from Moen - over the phone. Quite a contrast of customer service levels between Rotor-Router and Moen.

I guess the moaning guy from Rotor-Rooter did me a favor and saved me $240.....and I'm also getting a lot of laughs with friends when I tell the story about the 'RR guy who decided to pass'!

After using Roto-Rooters for the last 5 times, I had full confidence that they would send someone honest to my house for service since I was at home. The service person that was sent today was the most unethical service man I have ever encountered from Roto-Rooter. This person took advantage of my wife having limited plumbing knowledge and charged us $280 to hook up a washer with existing brass outlets and hoses. We were under the impression that something needed to be fixed due to a washer installation earlier that day.

After the service, this person had the audacity to suggest that he can rip up the bill if my wife tips him cash.

By comparisons, Hank, who was sent twice was ethical and recommended the proper course of action. I can trust him with my repairs without qualms.

I will probably never use this company again.

Called RotoRooter 6/27/15 for a clogged shower drain. I asked for an estimate and they said they don't provide such over the phone. It's a clogged drain not a complex job. The RotoRooter guy comes to my house and within 3 seconds says you need it snaked and it will be $425 plus taxes, that's about $460. When we said we had it done before for less than $100 he became rude, condescending and stormed out yelling ""maybe 30 years ago"".
We called another company and for $49.99 they did the job and we're done in 10 minutes. What a bunch of scammers! They know people have a need. Don't provide a quote until onsite so people are pressured to say yes. They quote 10x more than others and poor customer service.
