The person who came to fix our leaking toilet tank decided to rebuild the whole tank (totally unnecessary since everything worked just fine). We just needed to replace a gasket. When questioned, he said that we, Roto-Rooter, just change everything (for no reason but for an outrageous price). We had to pay $500 (after using a $60 coupon) for a gasket that needed to be replaced and 15 minutes' worth of work. If we didn't fix it with them, he was gonna charge us 350 for diagnosis). Oh, and we had to call them back because the toilet wasn't flushing properly after the ""wonderful fix"". Horrible and rippoff! Stay away!
We called requesting service on a couple of clogged drains. The 1st technician showed up and didn't have the proper tools on his truck so they had to send another. When the 2nd tech showed up, he stated that there were two ways he could try~ the 1st way would cost us around $200, if that didn't work, then he would try the 2nd way which would cost us around $500. I verified that it wouldn't be a total of $700, as I felt that was way too high. He assured me that if the first way didn't work, we would not be charged for it. When he finished I was left standing there with a $900+ bill to pay. Not once did the tech advise me that it was going to be far more than the quoted price. I was absolutely appalled. The cost for what was done was absurd. Choose ANYONE else but them if you would like clear, honest, up front pricing. I will NEVER use them again.
Called them for service for what I thought was a clogged tub. Was charged 465.00. The service tech wrote right on the slip plunger is stuck in trip waste. Said it would be 1000.00 to fix it! Called my plumber fixed it for 125.00. And my plumber said he didn't know how anyone could snake the tub drain with a mental plunger obstructing the pipe.
Pete H.The service person was efficient and pleasant.cleared my drain quickly. However the cost was akin to highway robbery.Choose anyone else but R.R.
Called on Nov 23. Had problem with washer in basement backing up. Simple rooting job.
Reason for call had family for holiday and needed machine. Made an appt, and was called back and was told that they could send a person within an hr. I had had rooting work done on
other occasions, so I did not get a quote, but figured with today's prices, travel time and the like, I figured to spend a couple hundred dollars. When the man arrived he quoted a price of
$427.00 we wanted some other stuff done too, but that was out of the question! Knowing that
Thanksgiving is three days off and the fact that I had a houseful, I did give him the go ahead
and forked over the money. He was there no longer than 45 minutes! I informed him that if he was not getting at least $100.00 per hr. He too was getting ripped off!! I went on line in Ct. And found out that the BBB has given the business an A- rating!! Are you kidding me?! I put in a call and spoke to the receptionist who assured me that the "" manager"" would be getting
in touch with me.. No call back. What a surprise! I run a small business for 42 years and have
had issues occasionally. I do my best to resolve them, but the gall of charging someone that kind of money is amazing. I have no faith in the BBB, so I figured I would tell you. Nationally
this company is loaded with complaints from customers who were also "" gouged "" in the same manner. Would like a call from the manager to see if bill can be amended.

My copper pipes froze and I couldn't get a hold of a hvac company. Rotor rooter wanted $500 to replace 20' of pipe plus another $500/ hr if the pipes had to be thawed. He wanted $160 for diagnosis when I already knew that the pipe had burst. I ended up paying for the diagnosis and did the work myself. Cut about 6"" of copper pipe and added 2 couplers. Less than $10 of material. Never will use rotor rooter again.
