I was having a drainage (no drainage in the entire house, which means no showers, no toilets, no washing dishes, etc.) problem from Sunday to Wednesday. I tried to DIY it and tried a few things over the few days, but it didn't work. Wednesday was Christmas Eve, and I had low expectations of finding anyone open or available, but when I looked up Roto Rooter online their website clearly stated that they were open 24/7 ""on Christmas Eve."" I took that to mean, yes, they know it's Christmas eve, and they mean it when they say they are open. I was prepared to pay premium pricing to get this problem solved. I used their online appointment scheduler, and even now, three days later, not only have I not had an appointment, I haven't received any calls or emails at all from them. I described the problem in detail through the scheduler and clearly no one there was concerned that I had a home with no toilets. I called another plumber yesterday who came out within 90 minutes and solved the whole problem. I'll never call Roto-Rooter again.
PRICEY !!!!
Yes, I had a service call on a Sunday. Yes, I expect to pay more for a Sunday. I do NOT expect to pay $245 PER HOUR (and it took 2 HOURS) only to be told that we'd have to call someone else (because it was beyond the scope of their abilities). It seems to me that could have been determined a little faster, but they probably charge portal to portal, so you're paying the $250 on travel time too. I will not make the mistake of EVER calling them again.
Good work but deceptive business practice.
A few years ago they re-lined my sewer and did a great job and were good to work with. I felt I was a little over charged for a rooter when would have been included in the lining job anyway but didn't quibble a few hundred dollars on good work for a few thousand dollar job.
Now when I need a sink unclogged and my first choice (Smith) wasn't available I called Roto-Rooter. On the phone they said it was $55 to come out for an estimate which would we waived if you accepted the estimate. I asked a ball park price assuming no complications and they said each job is different and they don't give out prices.
When the guy gets here the first thing he says in the estimate is their fixed price for this work is $245! More if there were complications. This was about $150 more than I expected but I went ahead and took it (It would cost $55 to not use them at this point...) If it was a fixed price they could have told me that on the phone.
Besides for that the guy was pleasant and effective and the drain was open in about 10 minutes. The whole job took maybe 30 minutes including the paperwork
To recap, the work I would give 5 stars. The over-charging and pricing scam I give 1 star so I averaged to 3 stars.
