I was extremely pleased that they agreed to send a plumber out after hours to change the valve on my water heater gas line, even with a $100 after hours fee and even though the tech showed up late, but what infuriated me was when the tech tried to up sell me on the repair and when that didn't work he tried to charge me $299 to change a $20 valve which is a 10 to 15 minute job.

By the way, the $299 was in addition to the $100 service charge and the cost of parts .

When I refused and told the tech he could leave and I would pay the after hours charge of $100 he began to lower the price, $250, $200, $150, even when he reached $100 he didn't realize that all he was doing was providing further evidence of the fact that with his initial price he was trying to rip me off.

I hope this is a reflection on the ethics of the tech and not the company because I would expect better of a local company that should value their community reputation over a few extra dollars.

Anyway, I'll need a new water heater soon, so not only did they lose this job, they also lost future opportunities to earn my money and to that of my referrals.

Update: I went to Home Depot bought the parts for $35 and completed the repair in 10 minutes. PG&E has been out and verified the leak is repaired and they have turned our gas supply back on.

Dishonest practices. Always going beyond I itial estimate and overcharging. This guy even charged me twice for trip time to go and pick up material !!
The work was estimated 1 to 2 hours. It took him 6 hours to complete the job.
Very unhappy. Won't recommend the at all.!!!

Our sewer was backing up and of course it was in a Sunday. We had to call Roto Rooter as they were the only plumber open. We knew it would be expensive, but we were desperate. They showed up 3 hours later, the line could not be snaked as there was a block, we waited another hour for a tech to come with a camera. Still showed no result. They said our pipe is broke at the main and they could repair it a Monday. Well here is why they get a 0 star rating. They canceled Monday, Tuesday, and now they just called me this morning and said they don't have a crew and can't get to us. Meanwhile, we have no plumbing since Sunday morning. This company took our $1K deposit and lead us to believe we just had to live like this for a day. 4 days later we are finding another plumber. Never ever use Roto Rooter!!! never

I would not recommend the Roto-Rooter Services, Concord CA. We had this team over at our house in November 2020 for sewer pipeline repair. The service they provided was very unprofessional. They charged us up-front $8K for minor repairs, and explained that this amount will be rolled in toward the extensive pipeline replacement work that must take place on the property and will be accessed/estimated by the Roto-Rooter Concord team. We followed up several times in December of 2020 and early 2021 with the excavation estimator Mr. Sean Salas, on the progress for the estimation and he assured us that he is still working on it.
He never came back to us with the estimation of the work. When we called again in April 2021 to find out what happened with the estimation, Mr. Salas told us that the company no longer has the record, ticket number, proposal of the work to be performed at our property. He asked us to forward to him all the copies of the proposal, contract signed in November 2020 by Roto-Rooter (since the company did not save any historical data), and assured us again about coming to property and conducting the assessment and the estimation over again....

but even after we sent all the documents, Mr. Salas and the Roto-Rooter Concord team did not show up, nor contacted us.

They could be a lot better if they concentrated on being professional and offer estimates before doing any work. All I can say about them is that they just try to squeeze as much money as they can for easy work. They lie and try to make a big deal out of something simple so they can charge more. Bad company.

5 minutes to unclog a toilet - bill was $279. We need a reliable plumber - never again will we use Roto-Rooter.

Water restoration team is awesome but the plumbers are a hit or miss. I had two different guys working on my kitchen in the last couple of days and one was awesome but the second one was someone named Billy who wanted to scam me by overpricing the work because he said that he couldn't replace two valves under my kitchen sink. He obviously pretended to take longer than necessary and then wanted $810.00 for the work. He got pissed when I told him that I wanted to talk to a manager before paying. Bad experience and I am never calling them again.

My sewer line needed cleaning. I called their local number and reached a national phone service. They would not give me a price on the phone. I had to wait 2 days for an appointment. The driver quoted $379-. That is more than double anyone else. This is called distress pricing. The home owner's sewer line is backed up and it is accept the price gouging or call someone else and wait. I said NO.

The driver said the prices are set by the corporate office. So the phone operator knew the prices because they are the same nationally.

I was quote for ESTIMATE $485 to shower cartridge replacement and when job was completed in 50 minutes and was tendered a bill for that amount with a labor fee $350 and I talked to roto rooter technician Rafael why the labor fee was that high for less than an hour work and he said he was supervisor level that was the cost. Wow! Roto Rooter is the place much profiting you on the time that you just need a minor service ! I canceled all the Roto Rooter future service today afterwards.

I called Roto-Rooter in Martinez, CA to replace a thermostatic cartrige in a shower panel. As it turned out, the replacement is not an off-the-shelf item. The technician gave me an estimate of $200. I ordered the part and called Roto-Rooter again. Once the work was complete I was handed an invoice for $469. I was able to negotiate the price down but not to the original $200 I was quoted. And to be honest, it still is not installed correctly.
