Bob Bair obtained his plumbing license in 1969. To buy his initial equipment, he sold his motorcycle and started the business in his garage in North Downers Grove. Quality workmanship, honesty, and integrity were the cornerstones of Bob's business growth. As word spread about his work, his business continued to grow. This growth necessitated more trucks, equipment, and technicians. He then transitioned to 447 Rogers Street in Downers Grove. The new facility offered ample space for a warehouse, office, and parking for trucks and employees. Soon, the trucks you spot in your neighborhoods were added to the fleet, helping technicians carry more supplies and tools for enhanced service. Today, the company employs around 30 people and operates 15 trucks.

Timely service but VERY pricey as others have mentioned. I'll be using someone else in the future.

We are long time (10+ years) customers of this company, and have been very satisfied with their work. They handle our annual heating and a/c check- ups and have also done plumbing work for us. Our experience is that they prevent small issues from becoming big problems. They are not the cheapest tech's around, but we feel they have been worth every penny. We would recommend them to anyone.

I've used Bair for several jobs over the years. Bought a new house that needed new A/C and furnace. Of 3 estimates, Bair was within $5 and the most thorough. One estimate for $11, 000 was on the back of a bar napkin. (I won't bother withthe name of that company). Recently I had a sheared sewer pipe that caused a toilet overflow. The first company couldn't handle it, the second would take several days to get to it. I called Bair. It was fixed by the end of the next day, at a price competitive with the outfit that would take several days....including JULIE underground utility marking.

Once I used ""ED PLUMBER"" at my previous house. They charged $750 to fix a blocked hot water line and a leak in an upstairs shower drain...the drain still leaked after they cashed the check and the hot water line was still a problem.

Considering the level of competence and professionalism you get from Bair, and in my experience, a fair price....you will not likely find a better plumbing or heating contractor.

I love Robert Bair. They're always able to do same day service for us, which is fantastic when you have AC or heating issues.

I have no idea what the previous reviews are talking about with e extreme cost. I've always found Robert Bair to be reasonable, and when we got our new AC unit their bid was actually several hundred dollars LESS than the others we got. The technicians we've had have always done everything they can to minimize the cost to us, I've never felt ripped off.

We've used them for AC, heating, and plumbing issues and will continue to use and recommend them to others.

We have used Robert Bair Services over many years and several residences. We are so thankful to have found them. They have been here when we needed them. The professional technicians get the job done and life moves on. When we call them on holidays and later at night we pay more but expect to. We are happy to have a reliable company who always comes when we call. The men are always clean, nice and wear shoe covers when in our home. Several years ago we found they also do heating and air conditioning and we have used them for that as well as our plumbing emergencies.

I have to say that this company was more then helpful for us! I'm 7 months pregnant and our toilet had backed up last night and then water started leaking down into our basement. We had called another plumber initially who came out and let us know that we have a sheared over head sewer and the cost would be apromixmately $7,000.00. Not to mention they would have to dig up our entire front porch which is all concrete and because it's a sunday they would hopefully start on Tuesday but in the meantime we have to toilet!!
Anyway I called Robert Bair and they had someone call me right back. I shared everything with them on the phone and they were so incredibly helpful and willing to work with us but shared that the town actually has a program that would help us cover the cost!!
This has helped us so much and we will most definitely be going back to this company with any further issues that we will have.

We had Robert Bair Services out to our home to repair our leaky faucet. The technician was very friendly and was great with our kids and dogs. He wore boot covers and put a rug down in the area he was working so that the mess was minimal. We are happy with the repair and really appreciated having someone in our home that we were comfortable with. We will definitely use them again.

I can't disagree with the previous commenter who called this outfit a rip-off. They spent less than an hour on a leaky faucet, installed no parts and told us the problem would happen again. All for the low low price of $197. They were happy to recommend a new hot water heater even though we had no problem with that and never asked them to look at it. Must have a bunch of those in inventory. I wouldn't call these guys back if they were the last plumbers on earth. You should look elsewhere.

The other reviews about these guys being a rip off are dead on. Our problem -- leaky faucet. I don't mind paying a bit of a premium to know I can get the job done. But these guys come out and disappear for a day to ""research"" the right part. It took me about 5 min. to find the part online for $25. They call back a day later quoting the same part for $75, and attribute the $50 to their time to find it. Then they're going to charge me $200 to replace a cartridge.

I've used these guys in the past for emergency work, but I'm now so disgusted -- never again! Stay away, far away.

What happens when you ignore a lot of little plumbing problems? You eventually get a lot of big plumbing problems - everything breaks at once.

First, about a year ago the heater in my house kept turning itself off after only a few minutes. Not good in the middle of winter. We called Robert Bair and they sent a tech out.

He was very efficient, explained everything to us and got the problem fixed with minimal hassle. He also gave us some tips to keep the heater in good working order.

I can't remember how large the bill was because it was last winter.

Fast forward and now we've got some serious plumbing problems. Again, we call Robert Bair. They send out a plumber. He arrived on time, when they said he'd arrive. Someone from the office gave me a call about 30 minutes prior to give me his name and ETA.

Since we had a lot of different issues that needed to be addressed, he checked out each one and wrote up a detailed estimate. Again everything was explained to us. He never tried to upsell us on anything.

He was at our house for a good 4 hours working on our problems (like I said, we had several plumbing issues that we let fester for too long).

When all was said and done, he fixed everything we needed to be fixed. He went through with us again and explained what he did, offering useful tips to keep things running smoothly.

My verdict: They do a great job. They're professional, prompt and get the job done! This extends to the office staff. When I made my appointment, the lady was very patient as I rattled off my to-do list.

They are probably a little pricey compared to some of the other services out there (hence only 4 stars). But I will recommend them to anyone looking for good, quality plumbing, heating/air work.

P.S. You can cut down the cost on the installation of faucets, sinks, etc if you buy them yourself at Menards, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. We bought a new faucet (one of the cheaper ones) at Menards and it works great!
