Bob Bair earned his plumbing certification back in 1969. He sold his motorcycle to purchase his first tool and launched the business from his garage in North Downers Grove. Bob built his company on the principles of quality work, honesty, and integrity. As his reputation expanded, so did his business. This growth necessitated more trucks, equipment, and technicians. Thus, he moved to 447 Rogers Street in Downers Grove. The new site allowed for a warehouse, office area, and parking for trucks and staff. Soon, the trucks you spot in your neighborhoods were added to the fleet, helping technicians carry more supplies and tools for enhanced service. Today, we have about 30 staff members and a fleet of 15 trucks.

Joan K.I had a sewer back up which was what discovered and it ended up being that the bigger long term problem was the sewer pipe connected to the outside sewer was sheared. I was referred to this company by Carmen
LaCassa who discovered the initial pipe clogged and cleaned(good work by him as well) but this outside job needed to be fixed as well by a larger company who could handle this type of work. Communications with this company was great. So the work was scheduled and I accepted their quote.
For two days Adam and Jonathan came out timely, to do the agreed repair and I apologize if on day two it was not Jonathan with Adam, but I must give kudos to these young men. They had to hand dig the pipe for reconnection and replacement. Run a new pipe from inside out to the main line as well. Pleasant, professional, efficient and accommodating. Job was done well and everything left neat. I would highly recommend this company. Very professional and as we all know plumbers are going to be expensive but I feel that they were reasonable and glad this has all been completed. I have no problems recommending them or using them for future jobs if and when needed. Thank you all who were involved in this issue!
I had just purchased a house in the area and I needed a leaking valve replaced. A friend Recommended Robert Bair. The people in the office were professional and courteous. They sent the plumber out the next day and he made the repair in short order at a fair price. I also was somewhat in the market for a new HVAC system and had been getting prices on a complete changeout. I requested an estimate and the rep came out a few days later. He designed what I felt was a terrific system and quoted me a fair price. I put down a deposit and they showed up on the day promised, removed the old equipment, installed the new system, and were done in one day. The techs were thorough, professional, and knowledgeable. I have these guys on speed dial now! Highly recommended.
Sara B.Chris was quick, professional, knowledgeable and oh so nice! He was compassionate about a recent death in my family. Great work, great to talk to, great guy all around.
Andre L.Got a new furnace from these guys after getting a quote from a lot of local vendors. The salesman for this place actually cared about finding the right unit for the space while other shops didn't bother.
I commend Robert Bair for their passion and dedication - excellent customer service.
A bad smell in my basement had developed over a few weeks & in a previous occurrence of a similar smell resulted in another large plumbing company finding that our cast iron sewer pipe had corroded on the top & needed replacing. Since now the remaining portion of the house's original cast iron pipe was over the furnace & would require furnace removal for a potential repair I called Robert Bair. The technician Jack who was very professional looked at all my piping ( not easy to get to ) to find the source of the smell. He felt it was the sump pump pit & floor drain, & recommended a lid be put on both. I was doubtful that this was going to take care of the new strong smell but felt the lid was a good idea as the small closet it was in had always smelled musty. Jack returned 2 days later when my schedule allowed & put on a custom lid to accommodate our sump pump, backup & dehumidifier & also a lid on a floor drain which was under the finished basement carpet. Jack was very neat & answered all my questions. The smell is gone ! Thank you Jack for your amazing work!!!
Thank you Robert Bair!!
Great service, very professional. Jack was wonderful, wore a mask the whole time and this increased my comfort level. Will definitely use again!!!
I can't even give 1 star. Terrible service all around. We scheduled for a rep to come out and after assessing our A/C it took them 2 months to quote for the parts. Once we had a second appointment, a senior serve rep showed up and gave a completely different assessment of or unit. He indicated a Comfort Specialist should come out. We set appointment for today 3-5 and he didn't show. Ridiculous to say the least. I want my money back!
Just about the worst that I have ever been treated as a customer !!! 2 months lead time to schedule A/C check up and then they Stood me up calling at 9 in the morning the day of the service after I stayed home from work and said they can't make it out.
Re-scheduled a few weeks later for a Saturday. Window was 9 - 1. No one ever called to confirm. Left my house at 1:30 to enjoy what was left of a perfect summer day. At 2 PM Noticed a 1:40 message on my cell phone that said call back in 15 minutes or I will not show up. Can't imagine having this company involved in an emergency situation.
Called Stephenson and scheduled within a week. Too much competition around to use this company. BTW Never heard from them since after I called to express my dissatisfaction.
Tasteforluxury X.I feel so cheated and lied to! In the end the plumber came out, found every excuse to not do a lick of work and then had the unmitigated gall to charge me for the useless home visit. Here is the story: I called Robert Bair Plumbing because I had a simple replacement of a bathroom faucet job. Also a dripping utility faucet and a dripping outdoor spicket. I was looking for a Saturday appointment since I work and it is very difficult for me to take time off. They indicated Saturday appointments were available and I discussed the plumbing issues I needed addressed in detail. I was told that this did not appear to be a big job. I waited 2 weeks for them to come out on a Saturday, which I accepted no problem. The plumber arrived and immediately begins by saying he doesn't usually work on Saturdays and seemed perturbed to be there. He began looking for any excuse to not do any work in my home that day. I showed him to the bathroom where the faucet needed to be replaced. The shut off valve under the sink was not operational which I told them by phone. Not a big deal, it simply requires turning off the main shut off valve in the basement. It's literally twisting a knob! When I showed him the new faucet his response was ""oh, do you have some reason you bought American Standard brand""? I said no I just shopped for a faucet with a well-known brand that fit the sink. Well he said ""I don't like American Standard! I don't like how the drain is made."" I said the current drain working fine so you can just go ahead and replace the faucet. No, he didn't want to do that and instead suggested that I purchase a Moen because that is his favorite brand. I figured that he must have an overpriced Moen on his truck that he wanted to sell me. Nope he didn't have any faucet at all he just didn't want to work on a Saturday. He instead suggested that I return it and purchase his preferred brand and make another appointment to have them come back. He had zero regard for my time and how difficult it would be to clear my schedule again to have them come back. Or that I had already waited 2 weeks for them to show up. I then showed him the utility sink. The only problem I was having was a leaky faucet there. He said that the laundry tub was too old and it needed to be torn out entirely. He would charge me $300 to remove the old utility sink, $500 for a new one, all the piping would then need to be replaced and a new faucet installed. I explained there is nothing wrong with the tub and I had that faucet fixed several times in the past and all it requires is two rubber washers but he wouldn't hear if it. Feeling completely outraged I had one last job to show him and it was the spicket. Oh no he said I can't possibly work on that because your whole house shut off valve is too old! I told him It's been turned off sever times since I have lived there and there is no problem with it. He insisted they would need to shut my water off at the street which would involve me calling the village to have them first come out to excavate the yard since it's buried. He didn't know where it was located but that it may require having my concrete driveway dug up or have a two-hundred-year-old tree chopped down in the parkway! Obviously realizing that I was being taken for a ride I pretended to agree and to see what else my job would ""require"". Well, I was also going to have to have all new plumbing run at the shut off valve and my water meter replaced as well! He would gladly provide me with a quote. His quote was over $2500! At this point he had done nothing in my home at all except make excuses for why he couldn't do any work that day and lie about unnecessary work. He then charged me for the home visit and wanted to schedule a weekday appointment to come back and do all this work. LOL! I believe that he saw I live in a fancy neighborhood and figured he would rip me off. I called a reputable plumber instead. He came out, twisted the main shut off valve to turn off the water without any problem, used the faucet I provided seamlessly, replaced two washers in my utility sink that completely resolved the problem and also replaced my outdoor spicket faucet. All done in two hours with no additional work required. No mention of having the village come and rip up my yard to shut off the main valve. Robert Bair Plumbing was a complete scam and their plumber is a total con man. Didn't fall for it Robert! You suck!
Sheila C.I am a little behind on my review of Robert Bair.
In February an RB technician came to my home for issues with my furnace. They charge me $87 for the ""service call"" and the technician informed me ""nothing is wrong with your furnace"", but they billed me anyway.
Sadly, one month later the furnace we once again not working correctly. I woke up to a 62 degree home. I called and a second technician was dispatched to my home. Luckily this technician, Dave was well trained and located the problem. I was charge $122 for a ""minor repair II"" and the ""service call"" fee was waved because ""the first technician should have found this problem.""
Thank you Dave for being a well trained and understanding technician.
