DOESNT EVEN DESERVE ONE STAR
they came out to attempt to fix my backed up kitchen sink. the first time, the guys said he fixed it but when I went to use the sink it was still backed up. the second time, a few days later, he came with a tiny do it yourself snake that was 25 feet and tried to snake the pipe from the kitchen sink, the garage sink and the washing machine. he could not make even the lightest bit of improvement. he left and I got a call later saying that in order to fix the problem I would have to pay $900!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's NINE HUDRED DOLLARS!! to cut through the side of the house and create a clean out valve near the kitchen. Did he think his snake would suddenly be longer by doing this?
I called another plumber, and he fixed the sink in 15 minutes with a REAL snake!
this company is a joke!!!!!!!!! they tried to scam me!

Depending on whether our problem is in the kitchen or the bathroom, American Home Shield has sent Rite-A-Way Services or Royal Services. Rite-A-Way is quite terrible, while Royal Services does a great job.

Our garbage disposal stopped working. AHS sent Rite-A-Way. They sent a ""technician"" who used ""percussive techniques,"" that is, he banged on our pipes! The garbage disposal became loose at the top where it connects to the kitchen sink, and he broke the P-joint so our leak became worse!

AHS sent Rite-A-Way back to fix the P-joint and the garbage disposal. After he left, I noticed our dishwasher stopped draining completely! It turns out the Rite-A-Way ""technician"" tore the hose between the garbage disposal and the air gap for the dishwasher!

I then had two more service calls where they denied being the cause of the problem. I demanded AHS send Royal Services, who had fixed our toilet before.

Royal Services came and fixed, in an hour, the messes that Rite-A-Way had caused over the course of nearly four months! (mid-May to late-August 2016). Our garbage disposal and our dishwasher both drain now, thanks to Royal Services and no thanks to Rite-A-Way!

I agree another 1 star is not going to help this company improve. They were also sent by my insurance company for just a second opinion - no work. The guy ended up breaking a fitting to the water main, and claimed it was not his fault. He wanted $250 to fix it or he was going to leave me with no water to the house.

Long story short, it is incredibly hard to get in contact with them.
I had to work with them through my home warranty provider and their initial visit was great. They said they needed to replace my garbage disposal and that they would call me back to reschedule the replacement. 4 days went by and no phone call, so I decided to contact with them. I called the number on the invoice and it would ring and ring until a message came on saying they are experiencing a large number of calls and to call back later, and the phone would hang up. There wasnt even a way to leave a message. Even on their website there wasnt a way to contact them about the rescheduling, only to schedule. Which I did through their website and never got an answer back. I understand the company might be busy but it is not hard to set up a message machine or an email to contact someone about status. In the end my home warranty was no help, surprise surprise, so I was left calling the Rite-A-Way number at least 10 times a day for 6 days until I finally spoke to someone. She was very pleasant on the phone and scheduled me an appointment for the very next day, so they cant be that busy. Again, the long story short is that the people are very nice and agreeable but it is impossible to get a hold of them.

This is the worst plumbing company ever. They never show up on time, never have parts, the plumber could not even figure out how to shut the water off to the house. No kidding, total worthless and waste of time. Their idea of 24 hour service is leaving a message on their answering machine and they get back to you 2 days later. Don't use this company ever!!!

Horrible experience!
Every time I called, they always made me wait over 30 minutes or call back because of high volume calls. They said the technician would call me back, but never called back. It took about 4 weeks to have my water heater replaced. I was forced to hire this company because I was insured by American Home Shield.
To make a long nightmare short, stay away from this company at all cost.

Worthless. Could not get the water fixed or even diagnose the problem. Send them away.

I get that they are overworked and over utilized by my warranty company...not a problem for me...they showed up and the gentleman they sent was very personable. We had a nice conversation while he ""worked.""

I had done some preliminary research on the symptoms (not as hot water as before and running out sooner than before) and was led to believe that the dip tube could be the culprit. I mentioned this several times to the man they sent, he told me no, that I had simply set the temp too low. I also asked him to look at the burner and inside that are to make sure all was good in there (he gave it a cursory look.) I was pretty annoyed when we were ""done"", that I paid $125 (my portion) to be told that I needed to adjust the setting. I'm a fairly handy homeowner and do lots of repairs and small remodeling myself, but didn't want to mess around with the water heater. I know where it was set and also don't think that the solution is to simply turn it hotter...not with the chance of scalding a family member.

Well no surprise it didn't fix the problem. I was annoyed for about a week and I decided to check the dip tube out myself. Short story long - it was cracked nearly the entire length once I pulled it out.....I replaced it for less than $5 plus my time.

I called the number on the invoice to ask about a partial refund of my fee and was assured that the manager/supervisor would call me back the next day...that was a couple months ago...guess it is time to move on.

I'll never call another plumbing problem in to AHS and let them send me this company - they didn't listen to their customer and didn't want to hear what I had to say. The employee they send was very nice, but was new and even admitted it to me when we discussed how he got into the business.

This company seems to be very busy as they work through various home warranty companies. Most of the complaints I've read and heard about this company are matters that are out of their hands and stem from the regulations set by Home Warranty companies. Home Warranty policies work in a way that limits the contractor from doing jobs exactly how they would normally do it - things are usually done piece-meal because of these policies. We called Rite-A-Way after a job they did a few months ago through our home warranty company which was red-flagged by the city because of a small paperwork hold up. After worming through their 800 number we got in touch with a local rep. He was personable, friendly, got the job done within 24 hours, and even asked to double check the job to make sure it was done correctly... free of charge. This is outstanding service. 4/5 stars because the company on the whole needs some work... the 800 number is a hassle. But when you get in touch with the local team and past the home warranty aspect, they will do their best to make you a satisfied customer.
