The only reason that I have given one star is because zero or negative stars is not an option. At the end of March I called Rex to get an estimate on solar heat for my pool. The owner, Ken, came out promptly, looked at the job, and explained the system to me. While looking at the job he suggested that we sell our propane heater (which was never used) because we would not need it with the solar heating system. He gave a lot of the usual salesman BS (""I only have a couple of the panels you need left and if I have to order more they will be more expensive."" Etc.), but that is to be expected and I really wanted solar pool heat. I told him that my wife and I would think about it but ended up calling him that day and telling him that we wanted it. He told me that he would call me and set up a time to come out with an installer to look at the job again and that they would be starting soon before they get busy with air conditioning. Further he asked that I bring a deposit as soon as I can so they can start. I dropped off a deposit on April 2nd. I ended up selling my heater for about $500.00 less than it would cost brand new. That was allright though because Ken Rex told me that we would have cost efficient solar heat and be swimming from May through October!
After dropping the deposit off, no calls from Ken. Eventually I called him and he scheduled a day to come out with the installer. First scheduled time, no show. I called him and he said there was snow where he was (There was not any snow at my house.) and he would have to reschedule. Wasted morning off of work for me. Again he said he would call me when he could reschedule. Again, I had to call him. He told me he would be out the last full week of April. I was away for work at this time. His installers came out and looked at the job the week of the 23rd of April. I talked to Ken while I was away and was told that they were going to start soon and it would be finished when I got back. No one ever showed up.
On May 14th I called the office and asked when they were coming. Ken was not in and I was told that they had been backed up with the weather and that Ken would call me in an hour. An hour later Ken called me and informed me that they are not going to do the job. Multiple excuses were given. All throughout the process of selling me this system Ken touted his years of experience in the field of solar pool heat. Many of the excuses that he gave me for not being able to do the job should have been apparent to someone with his experience on day one. Needless to say I was not pleased. I told him that I wanted my deposit back and was told that he would have it in an hour. Two hours later I again call him to get the deposit. As luck would have it, he is pulling up to his shop with the deposit right now. I immediately leave to get the deposit. I get to his shop within fifteen minutes but Ken is out on an estimate (conveniently) and he left the deposit with the girl in the office.
So in summary, if you want someone who provides good customer service, reliability, and all around ethical business practices, DO NOT CALL KEN REX. I still find it hard to believe that he could not do the job. I think it may be that he took on more work than he can handle at this time and my job was expendable. His inability to manage his business cost me $500.00.
Brian E.This company left both myself and two of my tenants high and dry for over a month without communicating to me what problems they encountered. I'll never use them again.
Patrick Z.I use Ken Rex to service my furnace every year, and I use them for plumbing emergencies. They usually respond quickly and on time and don't over charge me. The techs tend to be friendly and did a good job.
