I love that Rentmeister calls and lets me know when it's time to maintain my furnace and air-conditioning unit. They are always easy to work with and very kind. I love that they take care of it, so I don't have to worry about it! One less thing off my to do list:)
Kristin M.I had these guys replace my furnace. However, it's now been 3 days and I'm still without heat and hot water. Did not show up on time, on any of the 3 days then had all kinds of excuses why the work wasn't finished (training a technician, faulty work done the first day, etc.) We have tried to be understanding, but, now that it's over 3 days and still not finished, I'm more than frustrated. Terrible, terrible, terrible!!
These guys serviced our furnace and AC unit for 20 years and when it's time to replace we call them for a bid and they are $8,000 higher than the other two bids. Nope. Thanks for nothing.
Stan R.Kevin Thompson and another plumber, and I'm sorry i did not get his name from Rentmeister Total Home Service just installed a water softener in our home. I would recommend this company for any services they provide. Great customer service very knowledgable and they did great work. Very pleased with the service that we received. I will use them again for sure.
I should first note, that my experiences are limited to the office in Davis County. I have no idea about the one in Salt Lake.
We've used Rentmeister through our home warranty numerous times, but we've also used them for projects not covered by the warranty, i.e. new tub and plumbing projects. Kevin is the tech who we seem to be assigned on a regular basis for plumbing issues. He's friendly, he follows up, and he's saved us money a few times by telling us about fixes we can make ourselves. We've also used them for HVAC, and they did a great job installing four A/C units in a 4-plex we own.
I'm not going to lie and say it's been all roses. There were definitely a couple employees who didn't get it right the first time, and one time that a major scheduling issue made me lose my mind. After a few years with a some older rental properties, I've learned most trade companies have some kinks to work out. It comes down to whether or not they fix the mistakes, and in my case, they have. If my warranty company assigns a different company, I usually call and have them switch it to Rentmeister. I've had too many really bad experiences with the others.
Rentmeister,
I just wanted to give you an update as I believe your technician was being less than honest at our initial appointment with Rentmeister (aka he was trying to scam us). I have no faith you will do anything to train this technician or remedy the situation, but if I don't inform you about shady practices from your technicians, you will never have the opportunity to do so.
We just had a representative from Hearth and Home come out to fix our fireplace based on the explanation the Rentmeister tech told us after looking at our fireplace, telling them about the parts we were told needed replacing.
(their initial quote for the entire job was hundreds of dollars less than your technician, whioch is why we switched in the first place and now I am very glad we did.)
Not only did it not cost anywhere near the $700 price point to resolve the issue as we were quoted through your company, the issue was that the fireplace needed a deep CLEANING. Everything is working perfectly with no additional labor or parts needed. The technician from H&H knew within minutes of simply looking at the fireplace that he was likely not going to need the parts he brought with him to the call. The H&H technician explained that the parts used in this type of fireplace are generally very robust and estimated that the parts he was told needed replacing likely had 5+ years at least still in them. After only the cleaning, we now have a perfectly operating electric fireplace.
I am very disappointed both in the way your customer service handled our cancellation of the followup appointment (estimated time the technician was present at our house via GPS changing, original estimated cost of the diagnostic visit changing, being threatened with potential additional costs of pulling/re-shelving parts that now I know weren't even needed because they were waived, supposedly as a favor, when typically they would be added to the charge, etc.) especially since there should have been no need for a followup appointment at all had the technician you initially sent out done his job and cleaned the fireplace before estimating an expensive parts fix.
The fact that he wanted us to replace hundreds of dollars in parts plus additional hourly rates to me indicates he was inflating the services estimated for additional pay that far exceeded what was actually needed for the job. He was extremely confident that one of the two parts mentioned was completely out/needing replacement and the other ""might work"" if cleaned but likely would also need replacing and the additional cost to disassemble twice (if it did need replacing after cleaning) would add a considerable amount to the hourly rates being charged, so it was ""cheaper in the long run"" in his opinion to just replace both at the same time. He was either inflating the scope of the project deliberately because we wouldn't have the knowledge/ability to contest it or he was not competent to be evaluating the job in the first place.
I will never use Rentmeister again and will never recommend this company to any friends/family/acquaintances in the area.
(sent this email to them directly but wanted people to be aware of this company)
Caleb K.Truly awful. My AO Smith GPHE-50 residential water heater had an ignition issue that needed to be repaired. This contractor was called through my home warranty. The guy who was sent out was rude to my wife, didn't even attempt to diagnose the problem and left with a $65 check after doing absolutely nothing because he claimed our water heater was a ""commercial model"", which it absolutely is not. As of now he hasn't reported back to our home warranty service so we can't get another contractor out tomorrow and will be at least another day if not the whole weekend without hot water.
Not dissimilar to many other posts. Had to book an appointment nearly a week in advance (guess business is good). I was quoted $80/hour, which was expensive but worth it. Tech came out and expressed his disappointment that he wasn't being billed at $150/hr which is ""what [he] would have quoted."" He then proceeded to milk time talking on his phone in his van mid-job and then billed me for the 1 1/2 hours he took driving from his previous job.. The Rentmeister I called is located no more than 15 minutes from my home in traffic. Even IF this type of billing wasn't unethical (the IRS does not allow people to write-off their commute time), it was a rather transparent attempt to get the $150/hr he thought he 'deserved.' The quality of the work was so-so. I have definitely received better - cleaner and more professional work.
We have a home warranty and they still added almost 500 dollars worth of stuff they told my warranty company it was for code upgrades so we would have to pay. well when we talked to them they wanted to replace the hoses and earthquake strap just because they do not work with other peoples parts they put their own in and we told the warranty company this and ITS A NORMAL practice. What a scam. We were able to talk them down to 375.00 cause were poor and we now have hot water but feeling very scammed.
Madison C.AWFUL customer service. They said it would take A WEEK for a repair man to get to my house to fix the AC. I waited a week in a 90 degree apartment. After the week the office said a repair man would be there in the afternoon. He didn't show up until 7 pm. He also showed up without a ladder tall enough to reach the AC unit. I waited a week and wasted a whole afternoon and evening waiting for nothing. Call someone else and get your AC fixed in a more timely manner.
