Since our inception in 1920, the comfort and care of our community has been our focus. When Joseph B. Redding established J.B. Redding & Son, he committed himself to the plumbing and heating needs of Princeton University, with the goal of establishing a legacy—a commitment to quality and service that would endure through his family for generations.
Now, the Redding family’s fourth and fifth generations uphold this commitment. Our clients know us as Redding's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning—and while we began in a barn on Linden Lane, in 1945, we moved to 234 Nassau Street in Princeton. Since then, we have expanded our offerings and continue to lead in the plumbing and HVAC sectors at our new address at 759 State Road.
Michael Redding, our President, along with Vice President Laura Redding, guarantees the comfort of local students, faculty, and employees through both Redding's Mechanical and Redding's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning.
Michael Redding is the President of Redding's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, managing our residential and light commercial services, with 30 years of experience in the family business. Michael earned his BA in Business Administration from Widener University and has invested years in further education, achieving and retaining certifications in plumbing, heating, and air conditioning. As a Master Plumber (license #10928), he is fully licensed and also possesses a Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector license (#8788). As part of the fifth generation involved in the business, he strives to maintain and elevate the family’s legacy of quality and service that has been in place since 1920.

I discovered a leak in my house close to midnight on a Friday. Josh took the time at that late hour to clearly explain what I needed to do to stop the leak. He was patient and very knowledgeable. His kindness is something I'll not soon forget. If I could give 10 stars I would. Thank you!
Craig K.We have lived in Montgomery Township NJ for 7 years. We have used three HVAC service and installation businesses during this time. Prior to doing business with Reddings, we were using Princeton Air. We will always do business and rely on Reddings from now on. Most recently Reddings installed two new HVAC units in our home in Skillman. This work involved removal, relocation and installation of furnace and condensers. It also involved re-ducting of two entire floors. Unlike any provider we have used before, they were professional in every aspect of their work, they were problem solvers an would only sell solutions that we needed, even talking us out of additional work when it would not provide benefit. They met all their commitments, followed-up on everything they did and delivered high quality solutions that we are very happy with. Their people kept the work place clean and were respectful. In addition, they were price competitive to ANY of the other contractors we have worked with. They have earned all our future business in the HVAC and plumbing space. They also now provide service facilities for us. This is not a co-erced review. We receive no benefit for writing it. We just know that finding high quality, competitively priced reliable services is difficult to do. If you require more details of work they did or our experience with them you can contact me at [email protected]. I also have read other reviews on the internet that suggest some of their office staff were not polite. I can not comment on the experiences that those people had, however I can say categorically that we did NOT have the same experience. All staff, office and field have been pleasant, understanding, competent and professional.
I recently called Redding's to repair a few minor items in my home. The tech they sent out was late and unprofessional. He was unable to fix one single thing. In fact, he left the situation worse than when he arrived. I also received an invoice for well over $200. I called hoping to rectify the situation and, although I was promised a call back, never received one. Oh well. There are plenty of other plumbers in the area. I guess I will be calling them next time.
Redding's are experts!. Eric was the diagnosis tech who really helped us out. We had a surprise party planned for my in laws, and the heater 'went out'. When I spoke with Eric initially he was quick to understand our situation. He responded quickly, and even stopped by the 'shop' in town to be sure he had commonly replaced parts for my unit 'on the truck'. He nailed the repair quickly and we were charged less than $500.00. Later in the week I saw Eric at the market, and he was nice enough to ask how the party went... Redding's is now my HVAC/Plumbing company.
We called because the furnace wasn't working. The woman on the phone was actually, contrary to others' experiences, extremely nice. She told me up front that service would be $89 for the first half hour, including transit time, and $125 an hour after that. That seemed a little bit steep, but I was dissatisfied with the last company that serviced our furnace so I figured I would try this business out anyway. She told me they would call to let me know when the serviceman left for here. It took longer than I thought it should have so I was already skeptical.
The serviceman who came out was Michael. He started out by taking the furnace burner assembly apart and cleaning it out. I don't remember seeing the previous servicemen (from another company) do that. And he seemed to do a very thorough job. It took a while, but the furnace is back up an working, so hopefully we're good for a while. I also asked some questions which really left to door open for him to try to sell me a new furnace. The previous service had told me this furnace was on borrowed time. Michael told me that this furnace was fine and didn't need to be replaced anytime soon. When he was finished he even gave me some advice about avoiding problems (and unnecessary services) with my hot water heater and the dehumidifier that was in the basement. Overall, a very satisfying experience.
But, despite my initial skepticism, I feel like the service we got was great.
I agree with the review that said reception was ""no nonsense"" and borderline rude. However, our tech was excellent. He was on time and took a look at our furnace for a low diagnostic fee of $89. Very knowledgeable tech who explained the details about what was wrong and answered all questions.
I had contracted them to install gas pipeline and new water heater. They were supposed to apply for the permit when we signed the contract on Sept.14 but they never did till Oct. 6 and only way i found out was by going to the Township office myself. As a result i was without heat for more than 2 weeks.
Princeton Air is a seamless experience in good customer service. They were knowledgeable about air conditioning systems - so much more than other contractors that we spoke with, too. Their prices are fair; the staff helpful; and the experience very positive. We will only use them in the future for all our service needs as they are an old fashion company with high standards.
Samuel Y.The reception was very no nonsense and slightly rude, but after the serviceman (Bill) came I was very pleased. He was polite and knowledgeable, and found the issue to my problem without pushing to charge more or sell something. He inspected my unit and the unit outside the building. I would choose them again for my heating and plumbing issues without question- just know what you want before you call.
""If you planning to have HVAC issues, then please use Redding's.."", yes I'm being sarcastic. No one foresees having HVAC problems.. it just happens. My central Air stop blowing, and I call Redding's. As it's Saturday, I'm aware this would be regarded as an ""emergency"" which would be $195/hr. Anyhow, I called their dispatch; 15minutes later a technician called, and informs me the rate is ""Inclusive"" of any commute time to my home. I'd thought I'd mis-heard... One must pay the $195/hr for labor, plus 1 hour of commute which is also $195. this is seriously taking advantage of homeowners who are in need to HVAC help. So I recommend anyone reading this, ask & shop around. When is the last time you paid someone $195 simply for the commute?
