James B.To be fair, this company charges a service fee to come to your house of about $40.00. They need to mobilize to your home. This costs workers time, gas for the vehicle, wear and tear, etc. Any savvy businessperson should understand that these costs need to be covered somehow in order to maintain a healthy business. No, I don't work for this company and am not affiliated with them in any way.
I've had this company delineate and repair my basement bathroom sump pump problem, unclog a nasty clog I had about 80 feet into the waste piping, and the people have always been nice and professional. What are people expecting, a dinner date? OK, maybe there are some companies that may be a tad cheaper, but in the end if you find a company you are happy with that is there for you in an emergency, why question that? The biggest thing is that they will fix your problem and get you on with your life. They even ask if you have any other issues that need to be addressed while they are there. This is not rude, but good for their business and good for you. If you have a leaky faucet or a water valve that is no longer working properly, they will dive in and fix it right there. Listen, if you're uncle/dad/brother/sister/nephew/niece are in the plumbing industry and can do it for way less, then more power to you and by all means go with them. But, I don't have family members that are plumbers, so I choose to hire a professional, which I believe this company provides. Plus, I'm having them come out tomorrow. I'll post my experience with that after it's complete. **UPDATE. OK, so they actually squeezed me in the very next day to delineate and repair an unknown sewer gas problem. They recognized the issue and were able to repair the problem with upgraded parts and my problem is now solved. It was a few hundred bucks included parts and labor, but I feel so happy that the job was done correctly, the right way, and in a very timely manner. And, they even gave me a magnetic pad for my fridge. You really can't ask for more. The only reason I wouldn't give 5 stars is the overall price is a little high, but I'd still recommend because sometimes you get what you pay for.
I am very surprised at the other reviews. I have used Ray the Plumber twice. Both times were superior service and work. They just came today and worked like heck in this heat to repair a leak under a cement floor. I cannot say enough on how great it came out, their work ethics and pricing. awesome. I will use again if I ever need a plumber in the future without question.

Beware!
Ray the Plumber is a world class rip off artist. I had a small teardrop leak from a drain in my bathtub. Ray's estimate was 800.00. Yep...800.00 dollars. Are you fucking crazy. I got some GE silicone and fixed the leak for 4.59. If you choose to use this guy, you deserve to be taken advantage of.
BEWARE of RAY THE PLUMBER!
Buyer beware! This company waives its dispatch fee of $39.95 if you use their services, otherwise the fee applies. In addition, they charge tax if you pay cash. I, like many people, have dealt with home improvement companies. NOT ONCE have I paid tax on a cash transaction. Very sneaky, overpriced for their service.
After problem was fixed, the repairman wanted to try and sell me a new water heater for $1,500- not needed or wanted!
I will never call them again! I should of looked at yelp first. 649 dollars to replace a hot water circulating pump that cost about $200 in parts. The tech was here for 90 minutes to replace it. WAY!!! over priced and shame on me for not shopping around.
There are no stars for this unscrupulous company. They sweetly reel you in with a $49.00 consultation to be applied to the service if accept. I would have no problem with the except for the ABSORBATANT CHARGE THEY APPLY FOR THE SERVICE!!
Even the serviceman handing me the estimate could not look me in the eye saying he just goes buy the book as to what to charge for snaking out a tub drain -Highway robbery - strong arm tactic - should be shut down!! DO NOT USE EVER!!!!
Pros: Came as promised
Fixed the problem
Cons: Astronomical fee with no clear explanation of the charges. They are ripoff artists who take advantage. The advertising is the key.
Fixed a problem which cost maybe $25. in parts, took about an hour, and charged $486. Before I realized how overpriced they were, I had the tech check a running toilet. He wanted to charge me a couple of hundred to ""rebuild the insides."" (Kit at Home Depot costs 14.99) and it takes about 15 minutes. I told him it had been rebuilt within the past two years. He tried to convince me I needed a new toilet: $600 before tax for who knows what kind of quality toilet bowl. I declined. Found a highly rated one for $176 at Home Depot and will buy it when I can find a reasonably priced plumber.
Rip-offfffffff company. I paid for your education. Don't waste your money.
Although I have not had service from this company, I can say that they were very professional and helpful. We have steam radiators, and asked if Ray the Plumber serviced them. The company told me they do not, but could recommend someone who specializes in them.
They suggested we cal J.R.'s Plumbing in Centereach. This was a big mistake. They never came to our house, and failed to return our calls. After calling Ray the Plumber back to complain about their recommendation, they apologized and said they had actually had a falling out with that company. They said I was not the only customer that had issues with them.
Ray the Plumber offered us a new company called GallettAir in West Babylon. We'll see how that works.
Thank you Ray the Plumber for your professionalism!
Joanne L.Called Ray the Plumber in Islip to get a price to install a Tankless water heater. I was told they could come out to my house for the price of $50 to tell me how much it would cost to install the tankless water heater.
Why would I pay them $50 to tell me the cost to install a tankless water heater? And suppose I do, and once I find out the price I decide it's not something I want to do...I've paid them $50 for nothing. No Thanks......
I had a most unfortunate experience with Ray The Plumber.
One of the workers who came to the house to fix the toilet dropped the toilet tank and destroyed it. Due to his total incompetence, I only received a $150 CR towards the bill. I had to run out that day and buy a new toilet. My out of pocket cost due to this error was $100.
My wife and I are retired and on a fixed income. This loss of $100, not to mention the inconvenience, hit us hard.
Think twice before calling Ray The Plumber.
